Google's Chrome Already Owns 1% Of Browser Market And 6% of SAI Readers

|

ChromeScreen.pngNo Mac version yet and a public panning from WSJ oracle Walt Mossberg, but Google's (GOOG) Chrome already owns 1% of the Web browser market. Actually, 1.13% of the market as of 1 p.m EDT, according to Net Applications, which is tracking Chrome usage by the hour.

Similarly, StatCounter is giving Chrome 1.15% of the browser market as of today, which means it's stalking Apple's (AAPL) Safari (2.48% share) fast.

This is an impressive feat, but let's see where it is in a week, once tire-kicking early adopters have decided whether to stick with Chrome or go back to Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft's IE.

Here at SAI, we're seeing 6% of our visits on Google Chrome so far today, compared to 41% from Firefox.

Here's Net Applications' hourly chart:

When is Google going to understand that, unlike Trader Joe's, they need competent aesthetically astute designers? This thing looks uggers from afar. It is disappointing that the Mac release is lagging, but on the other hand I'm in no rush to put this thing on my Mac. Want to best
Microsoft, Google? Recognize that good design is currency and do something about it.

I am having a major brain problem today....can somebody tell me what browser Apple folks use if they don't use Safari?

Chrome is slow and it sucks. It froze on eBay, Google video, WSJ.com, Walgreens photos, and several other sites. In the eBay instance, I opened my Mozilla browser, logged into eBay, opened my messages and replied by the time Chrome finally opened my message. I tried accessing video.google.com to upload a new video and it took so much time I got a Chrome pop up asking "Wait" or "Kill It." I decided to Kill It.

Bummer. Perhaps some Googlers should return from Greece and get back to work on Chrome because it sucks--and I really wish it didn't because its a great concept.

Ever forget the password for an account so the only way to login is via the one computer where it is memorized? Even miss-type a a login so now you always have to pick the right one?

Chrome has a list of all the accounts and passwords that you can actually see and edit. Others may have something similar, but I never found it.

I used Chrome a bit yesterday (including on this site), but I'm fairly certain I'm going to be sticking with Firefox for the time being, maybe I'll look at Chrome again if the next versions fix the issues I had.

Chrome is after all, in beta, and has just been released what...2 days ago? Firefox is on version 3. Give it some time.

I'm sure SAI also doubled its readers yesterday, as every person who tried chrome (like I did) was counted twice. Heck, I'm surprised you didn't show 50% share!

Nice metrics -- take them to the VCs, fast!

Waiting for an adblock plugin (or whatever these things are called under chrome).

This new browser is simply much faster to browse but also to launch and close as many other Firefox, IE, Safary or whatever... The thing is ther is no plug-in at all for the moment, let see when we'll install plugins as we do with Firefox.

I bet the next 12 years the competiton will be done between Firefox and GG chrome, IE will more than 70% of its market share.

Ummm...Paul:

FF:
File>Preferences>[Show Passwords] click the button....
You see a list of all the sites and the user/passwd associated with them. I cannot speak to Exploder, but When are these giant software companies going to STOP tying to KNOW EVERYTHING...to an INTIMATE level, about us and our habits?

Geezuz, all I want are sharks with friggin laserbeams on their heads!
