Does Watching TV News Make You Racist?

For every negative story that is run on your news....WE have a positive one that could have replaced it. IT'S ALL NEWS...they choose which stories they report.

Like the news ever shows reality; which is black on white crime. Rather the one in a million white on black crime is all over the place.

Negro's are so protected by the media.

I thing I do find interesting about TV news is that they only go into the back story of a killer if he is white.
You could have a white guy robbing a bank, or killing his wife. They always say "what would drive a man to do this.." Then they are looking into his whole life. Basically trying to calm do the masses, and further portraying him as an individual.
But if its a brown person. Its X man shoots up bank, or kills his wife. They plaster his worst looking picture on the screen. Then its today in sports. Almost like saying, well his brown, that what they do.

well i can see people being more racist towards whites if they watch news now days, because it seems that if a crime has been made by a black man they never say his race. But if its a white man that does the crime, right away they say he's white; making it as though whites are the only ones commiting crimes and protecting the black community. And also seeing that most americans that watch tv dont ever actually think about whats told and just take in what ever is said to them, then they will just see one race doing all the crimes. So yes if you are hollow minded and watching especially national news, you may be more apt to become racist.

I guess your not from the east coast, because its completely the other way around. If you ever check out the Daily News, or any of the new board cast. If a Brown skinned person commits a crime. Its plastered all over the news and newspapers.

Well, who commits more crimes? The news is the news. It tells you who did what. Since more blacks commit crimes at a higher rate than any other race in the world, it is obvious that there would be more black criminals on the news.

Interesting, so then everyone must be getting mixed messages. So then it does cause one to become racist. Depending on the news station though may make someone racist towards one over another. Its all the media.

Another Zeitgeist, conspiracy type.
This is not a political topic. So why not stick to the issue, you could possibly have some credibility then. And what's with all the racism against, well every one that isn't your color?

The true crime here is that this story was even allowed to be written as confirmed facts. This is no more than a flawed study/survey brought about to support a flawed premise. We honestly need to stop quoting these self-appointed, self-anointed experts. Ladies and gentlemen, experts are a flawed bunch on the whole. I find today that an "expert" is one who takes reality and throws out the parts that don't fit in order to validate their personal theories. That is the case with this story. Rather than endorse this story, you need to find some very knowledgeable researchers. They will have the parts that these experts dismiss as clutter and noise, cataloged as alternate "factual" data. It wasn't the TV news, it was the muggings and armed robberies and drug-slinging that everyone sees. TV newz hides the evil of blacks, and that makes baby Jesus cry.

True. And ppl. can choose to watch what they want. To me, watching tv does not make you a racit unless you have no mind of your own!!!

I'd have to say no. Watching doesn't make anyone racist. You're a racist already when you sit down and watch. Remember the name of the game is to keep you watching. Didn't anyone see Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" documentary. You won't find this tilted style of news outside the U.S.

Only if I watch ABC, CBS or NBC with some CCN, then I get the racist blood boiling in my veins. These stations teach us to be racist against anyone non american.

Actually blacks don't commit more crimes. This is a misnomer that people have picked up from watching the news. Actually, since most major news outlets are located in cities, they report the crime that appears in the geographic areas that are closest to their outlets. Since blacks typically reside in urban communities and cities and whites tend to reside in suburban, outer ring and urban communities, what the media portrays is slanted. When you look at the crime statistics maps, you see the map of the city and perhaps the first or second ring suburbs. You don't see maps of the outer ring suburbs and rural areas. Also, since urban areas are more dense, more heavily populated, it stands to reason that there will be more "dots" in more populated areas. When I approached media outlets in Ohio about their skewed reporting of crime, they explained that they report on crime that occurs in areas that are closer to where they are located. They explained that they could cover more ground if they covered crimes that occured in the cities. If they drove out to the rural areas and outer ring suburbs to cover criminal activities, they'd get fewer stories.
