Jessica Simpson extends country tour
Jessica Simpson continues to expand her summer concert schedule to support her forthcoming country album, "Do You Know."
According to local press reports, the former pop-princess got a mixed reaction when she hit the stage for her first country music performance at last month's Country Thunder festival in Twin Lakes, WI. She'll try her luck again today (8/7) in Indianapolis and visit a string of fairs, festivals and casinos through late September. Since last check, Simpson has added a second night in Niagara Falls, Ontario, as well as shows in Hogansburg, NY; Windsor, Ontario; and Phoenix. Her full itinerary is listed below.
"Do You Know" is due Sept. 9 on the Columbia Nashville record label. Simpson co-wrote all but three of the album's tracks, including her current crossover single, "Come on Over," which recently climbed to No. 20 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Guests on the record include Dolly Parton, who wrote and sings background vocals on the title track.
Despite the skepticism over her move into country, Simpson said the genre is where her heart is and that she's in it for the long haul.
"I grew up listening to country, so the transition has felt comfortable for me," the Dallas-bred singer/actress told The Indianapolis Star in a recent interview. "The country community has made me feel so welcome."
Simpson's latest pop album, 2006's "A Public Affair," reached No. 5 on The Billboard 200 and scored a hit with the title track.
The 28-year-old performer has gone from gospel singer, to pop singer, to actress since launching her career in the late '90s. She's also keeping busy on the fashion/beauty front with a new perfume, "Fancy," due this month and a line of "Jessica Simpson" brand dresses set to debut next spring.
