NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that officials found 14-month-old Jacob Ebenberg-Carey in the swimming pool at 35 Kilmer St. at about 7:45 a.m. He was taken to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"This is a tough one. It's always tough when there is a kid," Taunton Police Department Chief Raymond O'Berg said.

Officials said that the toddler wandered out onto the back deck of his house.

"He went out onto the deck. The pool is attached, and he fell into the water," O'Berg said. "The parents found the baby and summonsed medical personnel."

Neighbors arrived at the house to console the family.

"My sympathies go out to the family. A 1-year-old is very, very innocent, and it rips your heart. It really does," O'Berg said.

O'Berg urged pool owners to be extra vigilant. One week ago, a 2-year-old girl drowned in Auburn in her family's pool.

NewsCenter 5 and TheBostonChannel.com will have more information when it becomes available.
