Bye Bayh

posted by John Nichols on 08/07/2008 @ 12:42am

Barack Obama went to Indiana but all Evan Bayh got was this lousy photo op.

Wednesday's joint appearance in Elkhart featuring the presumptive Democratic nominee for president and the solon who would like very much to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for vice president produced no news.

Bayh secured his moment of national exposure, thanks to the over-reaction of the Washington press corps to the over-the-top speculation about Obama's Indiana swing.

The pictures of the senator from Illinois looking over the senator from Indiana were taken.

But that's all that happened.

Now, Obama's preparing for a family vacation in Hawaii.

America's preparing to watch the Olympics.

And the best bet is that the Democrat's vice presidential pick -- probably someone other than Bayh -- will come after the games.

The same goes for Republican John McCain, who will likely make his pick only when he knows who the Democratic frontrunner has selected.

  2. That monkey climbing o'er the top on Bayh the other day was you, John.

    Yawn, stayed tuned, zzzzz.

Should've listened more closely to Kucinich, instead of poking fun.

And ignoring him who brings most to Obama's groaning board, Richardson.

  10. Actually, I think you've got it wrong - unfortunately.

He's leaving town now- right before the convention. And spends his last days - before the convention and before he leaves town in Indiana of all places, with Bayh.

Bayh has time to get ready - for the turmoil when Obama returns - as our next VP.

    F***!!!

I couldn't stand Obama kowtowing to Harold Ford Jr's. crowd, that was bad enough.

But to to choose and force feed a boring and meritless person the Democrats already voted against, is a horrendous insult to all of us who stood by him until he became the nominee.

As a die hard Democrat I will not swallow this bait and switch job. The polls reflect there are millions of other who feel the same already - and it will only grow worse. I will note vote - fu** the Democrats once and for all - and A*I*P*A*C -for turning the Congress of the US into one who sacrifices it's own for the good of another nation.

Hillary, you wouldn't have won either so don't be too happy at Obama's loss.

Everyone, thank Obama for four more years of Harry and Steny's pandering -and whining. And the final end to the Democratic party.

Sorry Governor Dean, you did your damnedest.

  17. Never saying anything positive about McCain only ever saying negative things about Obama. From what it seems like McCain has nothing to offer to this country other than the fact that he is old and once got captured.

    Posted by Cccomfo1 at 08/07/2008 @ 7:01pm

  18. That's enough for the Republicans, has been for eight years 3C. I mean come on, you don't think they put up Junior because of his intellectual prowess do you? If anything, Grandpa must be very pleasing to the powers that be for how pliable his positions are. But he's got a great story from 40 years ago and oh yeah he's a white male! That and he is for certain a one and done should he actually win, so it gives them four years until they find the new Repub puppet to put up.

    Posted by yutsano at 08/07/2008 @ 7:16pm

  19. To state Obamas lack of resume and experience is not an insult but a simple fact of life. The lack of a longer discussion reflects only on the evidence of those facts since it leaves nothing to discuss, nothing more, nothing less.

Or maybe it is because it hasw already been discussed to death and people are sick of it? Why don't you google some of the already had discussions on this matter.

who had run a business into the ground (couldn't find oil in BAHRAIN!?!??)....traded Sammy Sosa...

and was governor in the state with the LEAST powerful governorship and most "laid back" state government except maybe for Rhode Island's.

NOW, you want "experience" and a "resume"...because the Repubs are running "Bob Dole II: The Wrath of John".

  24. The only difference between electing an relatively inexperienced Governor Bush and a relatively inexperienced Senator Obama is about 60 IQ points. Well, that and Obama is unlikely to choose the Prince of Darkness as his running mate. I don't know about you guys but I think that is a point in his favor.

    BTW, what IS McCain's "experience"?

Does it count to his experience back when he was "old McCain" who opposed the Bush tax cuts....was for campaign finance reform....immigration reform....called Falwell and Robertson "agents of intolerance"?

Or isn't he "starting fresh" (fresher than Obama) with "New McCain" who now wants to EXTEND the Bush tax cuts...doesn't talk campaign finance that much....suddenly wants the Border Wall first and wouldn't vote for his own bill....and sucks upto John Hagee?

I think that was more or less my point Mask. Grandpa needs to prove he's a non-threat to the status quo so the opposition to him will be minimal. Plus he needs to show that Obama is the risk to established interests, and therefore will threaten the apple cart too much to be chosen. Hence the whole "he's an elitist/too different" canoodle. Grandpa is little more than a blank slate, waiting for his next direction from advisors/lobbyists/special interests/whoever shells out the most cash for the influence. Remember there are enough people who got rich, insanely rich, and they want that cash cow to just keep on rolling. Obama has already promised enough that he's a greater risk to that established order. So Grandpa has to ramp up the fear factor to the Nth degree and not talk about himself, because if people actually looked at him, the suit will also look rather thin.

Okay bring it on Frank I'm in a scrapping mood LOL.

  38. McCain says nuclear energy can make the US independent of "foreign oil." But the US imports 83% of the uranium it uses!

  39. Posted by yutsano at 08/08/2008 @ 01:02am |

Well, of course. This WHOLE election is "about Obama"...not McCain. (The Hard Right still distrust him...they just fear and loathe Obama more. Not even for FRANK, who is concerned with Hillary in 2012...not supporting McCain.)

There is only one paradigm and it's not "Obama wins or McCain wins"...but "Obama wins or Obama loses".

Ergo, the method is to attack Obama and make people afraid of him, not try to build up McCain.

    Posted by Maskdelta at 08/08/2008 @ 09:01am

  40. They say people want to vote for something not against something, so I honestly could see the hard right sitting this out for four years waiting for Obama to screw up so they can sweep in (I recognize this is Frank's wet dream as well, but bear with me on just the right for now LOL) and reclaim the top seat. Of course, if Obama is a huge success, there go all those pipe dreams and they're stuck for eight years. They either bite the bullet and vote for the less-than-perfect or sit home and let Obama into the White House. At least they'll always have Rush and FOX to vent to.
