« Phillies Scouting Burnett? | Main | Rays Interested In Tyler Walker »
8:25pm: Reds GM Walt Jocketty stressed that he has not been instructed to dump salary. Still, that doesn't mean an Arroyo or Adam Dunn trade couldn't help the team.
4:12pm: Reds starter Bronson Arroyo commented today on the trade rumors:
"I'd really be disappointed if they made a trade for me. I feel like honestly if you trade me, you're going ahead and saying we're not going to build a winning team here...If you go ahead and trade me out now, you're cashing in the money for a losing team."
It's been rumored that the Yankees have scouted Arroyo. Arroyo actually has a career high strikeout rate going, but hits, walks, and home runs are also up. His salary jumps to $9.5MM next year, and he'll earn $11MM in 2010 with a club option for '11.
Based on their interest in Arroyo and Jarrod Washburn, it seems that the Yankees are hoping add an innings eater by spending money rather than top prospects.

I don't understand why Arroyo would care. What he's basically saying is that if they trade him to another team, he'd be disappointed because the REDS stopped trying to win? But he wouldn't even be playing for them anymore? If he wanted to win wouldn't be prefer to go to a legit contender? Is he drunk or something?

Apparently Arroyo does not realize that he is an impediment to the Reds becoming a winning team.
Looks like he wants to stay in Cincinnati and is using this as a way to put public pressure on ownership to not allow him to be traded.

Blue,
Arroyo just won his 5th straight game today. He may not be the starter he was in 2006, but he is certainly deserving of a spot in the rotation (if he wasn't, why would the yanks want him?)

It sounds like Arroyo is just saying, I signed that contract to help the Reds not to get traded away. He's not an impediment to the Reds becoming a winning team.
It's a good attitude for a player to have.

arroyo and dunn to the sox!!!! we need a player who can come in and shut down a team for a few innings and i see that in arroyo always have since he was with the sox. dunn will help the offense considerably. and we can resign him. plus we dont want a player who can eat innings like arroyo go to the yanks cuz he could hurt our team considerably.
sox should give the reds bowden, crisp, cris carter, and edgar martinez.
while the reds give dunn and arroyo.

In other news the pirates have had trouble negotiating with Pedro Alvarez. What did they expect? He's a Boras client. No Boras client signs before the new deadline. It's against the Boras rules.

Bank Street Grounds- Agreed. It is important for him, however, to understand that sometimes even the best players don't have a spot on a certain team and may be helping the team better to be traded.

if he can come in and producne right awqay like he is capable of then do it. he could be a considerable upgrade from lugo.
the sox need to go get arroyo and have him come in and shut down a team for a few innings like he is capable of. thats all we need him to do and thats all he can do. he isnt a starter but a dam good middle reliever. maybe try to get dunn in a trade too to add a batt with considerable upside to replace manny the following season.
at the most we trade to the reds a bowden, crisp, cris carter and edgar martinez or hansen.
yeah bowden and hansen could turn into stars in cinci but its cinci... they wont be able to challenge the sox or anyone other for quite a few seasons.
if i were the sox i would make that trade very quickly and start working to get it done because thats gonna add to this team exactly what we needed
