Baseball Prospectus' Will Carroll checks in with a slew of rumors.
- Carroll believes Orioles relievers Jamie Walker and Chad Bradford would clear waivers. Bradford isn't striking anyone out, but he does have a 2.45 ERA by virtue of good control and tons of grounders. He has a reasonable $3.5MM commitment for '09.
- Casey Blake suitors: Mets, Rays, and Twins.
- Carroll wonders if the Rangers could send an outfielder to Atlanta for closer Mike Gonzalez. MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan also linked the Rangers to Gonzalez. Gonzalez is under team control through '09; I'd be surprised to see him traded.
- The Marlins are "very aggressively" pursuing Rockies closer Brian Fuentes.
I think that Atlanta should package Texiera with Mike Gonzalez and try to recoup some of the prospects they wasted on him.

Tim, I'd be shocked to see the Braves trade Gonzalez, especially with Soriano's elbow problems. Gonzo has been as automatic as anyone in baseball when healthy. And the Braves haven't had a reliable closer year-over-year since Smoltz.
Now that Gonzo's elbow's repaired, why move him ?

Blake needs to go, I'm sick of watching him being showcased for other teams. I'm ready to get on with this lost season. I want to see Marte and Garko everyday and Blake is in the way.
But I do like Casey alot, he's had an excellent year. Much like Cliff Lee it was all for nothing.

And for Catalanotto? Puh-leeze.

ya I can't wait to see another 2 months of Ryan Garko posing after he swings and misses .
This guy will never more than a singles hitter .
And Michael Aubrey should be up here right now playin every day .
What happened to putting the best team on the field that gives you the best chance to win day in and day out .
win Victor comes back he should see most of his time the rest of the year at 1st just to protect him from hurting himself the rest of the season.
Carroll should be at 2nd
Cabrara at Shortstop
and Marte at 3rd just because after you trade blake theirs nobody until the rosters expand and Wes Hodges is added to the Roster to play third.
Shoppach catcher
outfield Francisco / Grady / and platoon Choo and Gutierrez
Until LaPorta comes up when the roster expand then you put LaPorta in LF and Francisco in RF everyday for the rest of the season.
And David Delucci should not even see 1 more at bat the rest of the season same with Garko .

Sorry I forgot Peralta
He would DH the rest of the season.

Like ink-stained said, I doubt the Braves would trade Gonzo. He just came back from TJ surgery and he's been arguably our best reliever since. And with Soriano's elbow acting funny all season, I think it would be a good idea to keep Gonzo for the time being. Besides, it's not like the Braves are loaded with talent in the bullpen after him and Soriano anyway. Ohman is solid, but nobody else really impresses me.

"What happened to putting the best team on the field that gives you the best chance to win day in and day out ."
Well that went away when they traded CC and lost 10 straight lol.
Why would you not want to see Garko? I want to see if he is the answer at 1st or not. Because if he isn't we have a real problem for next season.
And LaPorta isn't coming up when the rosters expand. He is playing for the USA in the Olympics and still is in AA. Next year is when we see LaPorta. Hopefully to begin the season, but maybe not until around the All-Star Break.
I'm not completely against Victor playing some 1st, but like I said I want to see if Garko can cut it. I'm more for Victor getting more time off than usual with Shoppach splitting the duties.
And Aubrey sucks. He has no future in the MLB. Just watching him play it is fairly apparent.

I'll save you some time-Garko's not the answer.

"Carroll wonders if the Rangers could send an outfielder to Atlanta for closer Mike Gonzalez"
Oh God, no.
But feel free to take Boyer, Acosta, Ring, Ohman, Soriano, Ridgeway, Bennett, and Carlye.

-Maybe a good trade would be Mike Gonzalez and Mark Teixeira for Vincente Padilla and Brndon Boggs
-The Rockies need to hang on to Fuentes because they would struggle finding a replacement as good as Fuentes, unless they traded Holliday for a top of the line closer
