| Mets Actively Looking For Corner Outfielder »

Updating a rumor that seems to have died down in the last few days, the Yankees and Mariners are still having serious discussions about Jarrod Washburn, reports Dan Graziano.
Up until a few days ago, the Yankees wanted to include Kei Igawa and Melky Cabrera in the deal but the Mariner's didn't particularly appear interested in neither player.
The Mariners asked about Austin Jackson, but were turned down, and now two other prospects have been thrown into the hat: Brett Gardner and Justin Christian.
Washburn has a no-trade clause, but Graziano thinks he would waive it for a shot at a pennant race.

...I'm going to assume Seattle didn't actually think they would manage to get Austin Jackson for Jarrod Washburn...

Maybe they offered to include Vidro as well.
(And why are they not trying to get a new GM in to make some of these decisions?)

Why is Joel Sherman reporting that Karstens and McCutchen are rounding out the Nady/Marte deal (in place of Coke and Kontos)?

I will be disappointed if the Yankees give up any player of value for Washburn. Although I'm not very confident in Rasner or Ponson they both have been doing a fair job and I would rather see them give Kennedy another shot than trade a player with any value for Jarrod Washburn. I like him as a salary dump but not for players.

Money's money, I suppose, but I never understand why a rich team like Seattle would salary dump if it would make their present team worse.

I'd rather see Padilla then Washburn... I can only see this happening if we give up nothing for him, this way if he fails we never lost anything...
I don't wanna end up like Bostons trade for Gagne last year...

"I don't wanna end up like Bostons trade for Gagne last year..."
I would be utterly shocked if the Yankees were to offer anything even close to that package. Hell they probably won't even offer a player as good as David Murphy or with as much potential as Engel Beltre.
I still see Gardner going to the Mariners straight up for Washburn. Or maybe with another lower level guy going with Gardner. Maybe Coke.

The Yankees need to hurry up and get this done. Because besides Washburn there is'nt much available in the trade market, according to MLBTR Trade Market.
And we could really use another lefty in the rotation.

I hope they dont get this bum. Escpecially for Melky/Gardner/Christian. If you want him so bad just agree to eat his salary and give them Pavano, lol.

Sounds like the Yankees are finally caving into Mariners' ambitions on this trade. The point of this trade is for the Ms to sacrifice a starting pitcher in a lost season to a contender in need now, for NYY prospects who could fill lineup slots today if need be as well as play the minors. I would assume that the Yankees had been hard to press for prospects of value in this season. Maybe they finally realized the Mariners cant contend this year.
Sheer speculation here, but I wonder if the deal will finally compensate fairly by means of trading Washburn (& perhaps Vidro + salary dinner) for either Igawa or Melky Cabrera & Jackson, Gardner or Christian?

PS, Washburn is basically gone now. I think they're polishing the deal over riht now as we speak. Here is the article that leads me to suggest this:

ALthough Washburn's contract is terrible, the one thing that intrigues me is his playoff experience. Remember, he was the staff ace with the '02 Angels. Yeah, his stuff has probably diminished since then and he obviously isn't the same pitcher anymore but having someone like Washburn to round out the rotation instead of Rasner/Ponson could help the Yanks out during the strech and playoff run. Also remember, Joba will probably reach his innings limit by the time the playoffs roll around (if the Yanks make it of course) so they would need that 4th starter and Washburn I think would fit in.
