« Yankees Unlikely To Sign Sabathia This Winter? | Main | Jason Bay Rumors Debunked »
Steve linked to this MLB.com article yesterday, but I wanted to give it a bit more exposure. Braves beat writer Mark Bowman talked to Greg Maddux, who as you know has a full no-trade clause. When asked where he could see himself playing in August and September, Maddux named the Braves and Dodgers. He said he'd likely approve a trade to Atlanta.
Neither team may be interested, however. Bowman says the Braves are looking for offense and prefer to develop their young pitchers. And Maddux himself doesn't think the Dodgers need pitching (after all, they've got Clayton Kershaw in the minors).
We learned on Friday that Padres GM Kevin Towers has informed Maddux of which teams are interested, and Maddux will take the break to consider his options. Would he be up for Philadelphia or St. Louis? Are those teams interested?

I am suprised the Diamondbacks have shown no interest in Maddux. They have a shaky starting staff beyond Webb and Harden, and I am not sure R. Johnson is a great clubhouse leader. Yes the D-Backs have Scherzer (is that spelled right) in the wings, but a young pitcher down the stretch may be a liability.
Arizona is close enough to Las Vegas to keep Maddux happy, and has great golf courses.
What about a Maddux and Tony Clark in a package for a prospect or two.

Interesting on the thing about the Dodgers. I just don't see it happening, since they have plenty of starting pitching. Then again, if Saito is down for any appreciable time, they may well want to bring in Maddux as the 5th starter to allow Park to go full time back into the bullpen to act as a 2 headed setup man with Kuo for Broxton.

I just don't see Maddux having the desire to play there.

I don't see Maddux playing in Philly. He knows his stuff plays better in a better pitcher's park these days. Coincidentally, like Atlanta or L.A...

I would rather see Wolf in a cards uni instead of Maddux. Cards could use a lefty. But Maddux would do just fine.
