Huston Street Claimed On Waivers

Interesting move, to say the least. I doubt a Street trade will actually happen though because of his age, his abilities (although he is currently on the decline), the fact that he is somewhat cost-controlled, and is under team control for 2 more years.

This isn't a salary dump, so there will have to be some sort of prospects moving around.

You can trade people on the 40 man roster as players to be named later. The A's wouldn't get them until after the season, but since they're building for next year that doesn't matter to them.

According to the info in the article they are looking for top infield prospects, especially third basemans. the twins are loaded at third base and need bullpen help, wouldnt suprise me if it was the twins

I would be VERY surprised to see Street dealt now. Not only is his value at an all-time low (then again so was Blanton), not only can the A's trade for prospects not on a team's 40-man roster (though the PTBNL issue I'm not sure about), but Street is valuable and cheap enough to be claimed by most teams in baseball. That means the A's will probably be negotiating with a team like Seattle or Cleveland. Street will be pulled back off waivers and we'll resume these talks in the offseason.

I would not however be surprised to see Keith Foulke or Alan Embree traded though. Could this be a ploy by Beane to find out which teams are looking for a reliever and try to trade Foulke or Embree as a plan B to them?

I could see the Marlins, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, White Sox, Twins, maybe the Rays. Well maybe not the Rays because they got Chad Bradford yesterday but still could be a possibility.

TWINSFAN- If Street were able to pass through all the other teams, the Twins would make sense. Odd thing is that Minny would obviously be using him as a set up man and yet Bradford, who would cost less in terms of talent, was passed on by the Twins.

I dont think Street will be moved unless Beane gets a Swisher-esque deal for him.

According to ESPN, he won't be moved. So, the A's are stuck with him, for now.

Embree or Foulke? Probably not going to get much for either of those guys, and next year they will probably retire or sign a minor league deal ala Shannon Stewart.

For real. I have seen that movie before and I have also made the connection that a lot of people here strike me as similar to the movie characters. There are times where it just seems impossible to explain even the most simple concepts. It is like when Luke Wilson tries to explain that water would be a better alternative then the gatorade stuff they use to water plants, and they just don't seem to get it. Classic.
