Astros Looking For Reliever

The Astros are a very poorly run team. They sit 9 games out of the wild card, yet are considering themselves to be buyers. They have too many holes pitching-wise to contend. They have 2 good relievers, and 1 good starter and one mediocer starter. This team should rebiuld. They will have to eventually because they can't win with this team. Why not get it going now instead of waiting too long the way the Oriols did.

It's going to take more than another mediocre reliever to get the Astros back in contention. I count three position players that are viable on a contender: Berkman, Tejada, and Lee -- two of those guys are overrated and the other one isn't likely to repeat his MVP-like first half.

Oh, but I forgot that Ed Wade thinks firesales aren't productive. Ed Wade, YOU aren't productive.

Hey Ed, Brian Cashman will happily listen to offers for Latroy Hawkins, he can be had for a large coke and a hot dog.

Let's not forget, it's not so much Ed Wade as it is Drayton McLane. McLane is gung-ho about winning, so much so that I doubt he'll ever allow a firesale, as much as they might need it.

As a fan, I love the fact my team's owner wants to win so bad, but I'm also a realist...

first of all sky please explain to me how lee is overrated he is consistently a 30 homerun 100 rbi guy now explain to me ur logic there? now onto my point, i'm a huge stros fan a die hard fan in fact but i agree the way they are going is the wrong direction completely and i think the only one to blame is the owner i think he is going to run this team in the ground. with him as the owner this team will never get back to where it once was.

Agree with Joe. 9 games out and they are buyers? The Astros play in the division that might be the best in the majors. Why are they buyers?

Actually, I think the Yanks would be willing to send a hot dog and coke WITH Hawkins at this point. The funny thing is, he's just the type of reliever that get's Ed Wade's fancy.

Agreed. The Astros are one of the worst run organizations in baseball and it all starts with Drayton McClane. I wish he would stick with groceries and quit screwing my team up.

Jurk, Carlos Lee is overrated exactly because people focus on the whole 30/100 thing and don't pay attention to all the other things that aren't up to snuff -- the OBP that isn't special for a guy of his salary and the fact that he's an awful fielder. Lee is a very good hitter, but he's not great. And as an overall ballplayer, he's just a touch better than average.

re: Carlos Lee. With an SLG of .550 and his being 7th in MLB in total bases, I can take his .353 OBP.

IMO when rating the overall value of a corner OF, defense should be about 10% of the equation, not 50% as implied above.

Just a P.S.A., McLane hasn't been in the grocery business for about 20 years.
Also, if any other team wants to give us their players who are as overrated as Carlos Lee, I'd be glad to take them. Of course, I probably wouldn't pay 100 million for them.
