Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Joe Blanton

A few notes on the Joe Blanton trade from around the Blogosphere...

  • The Fightins wonder if acquiring Blanton was a good move and feel that J.A. Happ deserved another shot to grab a spot in the rotation.
  • The 700 Level says that Blanton is not the #2 starter that the Phils needed, but he does add depth to the rotation.
  • Phillies Nation wonders if the Phils could now flip Brett Myers (and change) to the Rockies for Matt Holliday.
  • Philliesflow feels that trading for Blanton was a move that needed to be made, but wonder if the Phillies overpaid for a starter who was struggling in a pitcher's park.
  • Beerleaguer feels that at worst Blanton is a Jon Lieber-type, but could be a strong starter for the rest of '08. However, they are worried about Blanton beyond this season.
  • Athletic Supporters feels that the Blanton deal will have little impact on the '08 A's but could put the team in a better position to dip their feet into the free agency waters after the season.
  • Catfish Stew is surprised at the quality of the prospects that the A's were able to land for Blanton.

I am sure the Rockies are just drooling over the chance of trading Matt Holliday for a hot headed pitcher who got rocked so bad he couldnt even stay in the rotation of the Phils, who have an ace and 4 number 5 starters.

"Phillies Nation wonders if the Phils could now flip Brett Myers (and change) to the Rockies for Matt Holliday."

I am officially never reading that blog. Ever.

Plus Myers is a curveball pitcher and we call know how well Darryl Kile did in Colorado.

Brett Myers might get winded too easily when he's pummeling his wife in that thin Colorado air.

That 'and change' better be several players with much more value than Brett Myers, otherwise it's so dumb it's probably not worth mentioning.

That Phillies Nation comment is some funny sh*t.

Ummmm.. It wouldn't take 10 Brett Myers at 1/4 of his current salary for HALF of Matt Holliday. And I'm talking about the half without the arms!

Blanton will get rocke in his first start against the mets on tuesday

At least they can breed him if they got that half...

I am a Reading Phils season ticket holder so just for the record the 3 so called prospects the Phils gave up for Blanton are just that ...Prospects..none of them will do anything at the major league level.I had a chance to see 2 of the 3 play and I wasn't really impressed. Blanton will do just fine with the Phils and this deal will help the ailing Phillies rotation !
