com_civiuser is Joomla component designed to work with CiviCRM v2.0.x to restrict registration on the site to individuals who already have a matching contact record in CiviCRM.

v0.2 includes security updates shipped with Joomla 1.5.6 - please update immediately (whoops - first upload contained wrong version of one file, now corrected 2 hrs later - very sorry)

With com_civiuser if you have a 'members only' website you can use CiviCRM to manage your membership records and allow only valid members to sign-up on the site. This is adapted from and replaces the standard com_user component in Joomla which should be disabled.

There is also an associated module mod_civilogin (separate download) to replace the standard login module (which should be disabled) so that it calls the correct civiuser form for registration. As well as having a matching contact record you can also specify that the contact must belong to a specified group (and in a future release that they have valid member record in CiviMember)

NB This (v0.2) is an ALPHA release and should not be used on a production site without testing. Recommended to use with this component is the CiviCRM Membership Authentication Plugin also in this section of the extensions directory - a modified version is available to authenticate against groups instead of or as well as CiviMember on the homepage for this site. This will prevent lapsed members from logging in.
