It's being set up for a VH1 documentary, a BET awards show <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090711/tv_nm/us_soultrain">and a DVD release</a>.<br /><br />Given the recent passing of Michael Jackson, it wouldn't surprise me if this project was fast-tracked. Some of the Jackson 5's earliest appearances were on <em>Soul Train</em>. In fact, there's a website now <a href="http://globalimageworks.com/soultrain/index.shtml">dedicated to the show</a>.<br /><br />I never watched <em>Soul Train</em> when I was kid. I don't think I was in the correct demographic. But everyone at least <strong>heard</strong> of <em>Soul Train</em>. The show's final episodes aired in 2006 but (at least in my mind) the show is more associated with its beginnings in the 70's. If the show ends up getting fully revived (and not just an awards show), the logical network to show it would be BET.<br /><br />Now that Time Life is releasing DVD's of the show, it will probably be in a "best of" format (much like their release of <span style="font-style: italic;">The Muppet Show</span> DVDs) and not complete seasons. I'm even more sure of that after reading <a href="http://www.tvsquad.com/2009/06/29/true-blood-scratches/">the comments about last week's episode</a>, "Scratches." <br /><br />Nancy said Maryann appears to be a Circe, and Crystal backed her up, noting, "Most notably, Circe turned Odysseus' crew into swine, but she had the power to concoct potions and cast spells to turn humans into any animal, which we saw when she forced Sam to shape shift against his will. Inviting her victims to a sumptuous feast to dispense her "Circean poison" is her classic trap."<br /><br />There's no doubt that's exactly what happened in last night's episode, with Tara's birthday feast, culminating in Maryann doing her shaky thing that caused everyone to act like animals, whether they were smearing food all over themselves or having mad sex. Perhaps Eggs impregnated Tara with ... something ... ? Maybe that's why he's called "Eggs." And what was up with Maryann clawing the earth, then having her hands grow those three long fingers? Joe</em>, <em>The Transformers</em> and <em>Angel</em> comics, isn't the first American company to publish <em>Who</em> . <a href="http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Marvel_Comics">Marvel was the home of Fourth Doctor</a> Tom Baker's two-dimenstional adventures in the 1970s.<br /><br />But those Marvel titles were written by Brits (including Alan Moore) for Brits. I did not see that coming, although <a href="http://www.tvsquad.com/2009/07/05/jane-after-dark-the-wire-season-3-stringer-wears-a-suit-oma/">from what you've all said</a>, I was prepared for just about anything to happen on <a href="http://www.tvsquad.com/category/jane-after-dark/"><em>The Wire</em></a>. Except that! <br /><br />I feel like season three ended on a high note. Well, sort of ... at least for McNulty, now walking the beat in the Western Division. Even though he's wearing a uniform, which is just weird for him, he's talking and laughing with the residents, and that's really what it's all about. And Rhonda and Cedric are together (oh, that chiseled butt of his!). <br /><br />Even with all the busts, though, the drug business sails onward, with Marlo moving up in the hierarchy and Dennis' boxing gym virtually deserted, all the kids lured back into the streets. Sure, John Cleese and Graham Chapman won't be there (for two, completely different reasons) but it will still be nice to see Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam get back together, right? Supposedly he's going to perform as well as be interviewed.<br /><br />This is significant for two reasons. First, despite the fact that Dave's been on CBS since 1993, McCartney has never appeared on the show. Second, Letterman broadcasts out of the Ed Sullivan Theater, which is the same theater the Beatles played in during their famous appearance 45 years ago on <em>The Ed Sullivan Show</em>.<br /><br />Given the significance of the event, I'm surprised McCartney hasn't appeared on the show before. I guess he had nothing to promote (this time around he's promoting some American shows he'll be performing at). Ringo Starr appeared on the show in 1995, making McCartney the last of the two surviving Beatles to put in an appearance. It would be kind of trippy and nostalgic if both of them could put in an appearance together. Maybe I've been spoiled by the beautiful panoramic views we get of the environs on shows like <a href="http://www.tvsquad.com/category/the-amazing-race/"><em>The Amazing Race</em></a> and <a href="http://www.tvsquad.com/category/survivor/"><em>Survivor</em></a> over on CBS. I thought for sure that this nostalgic trip down Historic Route 66 would offer up some beautiful shots of our own amazing country.<br /><br />In the first episode, they were going to be coming through my neck of the woods, and we Midwesterners love seeing our cities on the television. Only when the families came into St. Louis, we didn't get a nice shot of the city skyline from the Illinois side, or anything. One shot of the top corner of it and they were on the Arch grounds rolling giant plastic balls through rickety mini-arches. This means that the show will not start filming at the end of this month as originally planned. Instead, <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i4c5798b5271bede4610baaa4891c67d8">production will begin in September</a>. Sometimes they're great, usually they're just reality shows. I haven't heard much about ABC's <em>Defying Gravity</em> (premiering August 2), other than it's about astronauts and from the producers of <em>Grey's Anatomy</em>. I hope it's more space/action-oriented than soap-oriented. I don't want to see a character named "McSpacey."
