Should we be eating more beef in order to slow global warming? It sounds counterintuitive, but it may be so: Cattle could be part of the whole ecological equation to solving climate change and restoring healthy, bio-diverse ecosystems. I am a vegetarian, but I maintain there is a place for grass-fed beef on family menus—and pasture-raised cattle in global warming solutions. Cows can help more than harm if they are sustainably raised....

Here is something that is 100% recycled, but doesn’t look it. ECOALF is the new fabric developed by the Spanish company fun&basics, made from recycled PET bottles. It is a high quality textile: flexible, tension resistant, long lasting, waterproof and lightweight. The first bags made from ECOALF are a toilet bag, a small bag, a cabin trolley and a large, wheeled luggage bag. The fun thing about them is the visualisation of the recycled bottles. Each bag tells you exactly how many 75cl PET plastic bottles were needed to make it. ...

Wang Shu's Mountain-Like Ningbo History Museum Made of Recycled Bricks
At first glance, the brand new Ningbo Historic Museum looks like it has been there for centuries, left behind by natural forces.

But in a nod to local building practices and to the archeological finds it contains, the museum's facade is constructed of recycled brick from the area, a ravaged patch of former farmland turned development district on the outskirts of the booming southern city of Ningbo. ...

Plant a Tree USA is an ecologically friendly reforestation company and, through a well-structured education plan, responsible planting, and corporate alliances, they are planting over 18 billion trees.

Plant a Tree USA's program specifically helps and encourages farmers who are dedicated to reforestation. Lands across the country are used for farming, but Plant a Tree USA helps farmers see the value in reforesting and their plantings go to encouraging more farmers to plant trees on...

Greening China's Mayors: A Q&A with Dr. Steve Hammer of the Mayoral Training Program on Energy Smart Cities

"There are lots of questions"
To meet its ambitious goals -- a 20 percent increase in energy productivity and a ten percent decrease in emissions compared to 2005 levels by the end of 2010 -- China will need to rely on strong national policies, like the so-called "green" stimulus package.
The Wonderful World of Bamboo (Slideshow)

Bamboo has been back and forth across our radar ever since TreeHugger was but a sprout, and we've seen the wonder-grass used for just about everything. And, while bamboo isn't always super-green, there's no denying its utilitarian handiness. Take a spin through the wonderful world of bamboo, in pictures.

This week the public were finally able to walk on the beautifully renovated disused railway line that is the Highline in New York. On the other side of the pond abandoned railway tracks were also making headlines due to the Tube strike in London. As Bonnie Alter has reported, London has seen many novice bikers taking to the roads in an attempt to get to work on time...

This totally falls into the realm of un-TreeHugger and we're posting it as such. But not with out a side order of "that is friggin funny." Since most of us TreeHuggers work from home (read: home or any place that has a table and free wifi and hopefully half-way decent free-trade/organic/shade-grown coffee...) we think this USB-powered microwave is hilarious, but still a hunk of unhealthy plasticrap. You'll never guess what company created it......

Ever get all the way to the store only to realize you’ve left your reusable bag at home? After years of collecting new paper and plastic bags because their 99 cent, store-branded bags were forgotten, worn out or too small, Chris and Kate Charbonneau decided to develop their own solution – Joey Totes.
Father's Day Green Gift Guide: 10 Presents Dad Will Adore

We love dad (or hubby or grandpa--insert your preferred Papa Bear-figure here) and know that he deserves the best. So why not choose a gift that reflects style, substance, sophistication, and sustainability? Make him swoon with a dashing gift that's delectably green in obvious ways (a beginner's beekeeping kit, a deluxe bike bag system) or one that's secretly sustainable (all-natural BBQ charcoal, an energy-efficient iPod clock radio). Wherever your dude falls on the green spectrum, this guide will help you do your part for Dad on Father's Day. ...

Punta Cana, the super-sized 30,000-room resort town that plays host to most visitors to the Dominican Republic, doesn't sound like much of a model for sustainable tourism. But the area's first resort, Puntacana Resort and Club, is beating a greener path, with an ecological foundation and environmental research center that have undertaken a range of promising initiatives, from local schooling to coral conservation. Hunting Threatened Species
Hunting for food certainly isn't always bad - especially compared to factory farming - even if hunting has a big impact on animal populations. But if it includes hunting animals that are considered threatened or near-threatened by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, it just pisses us off (especially if you flew from the other side of the planet to do it). This safari website has a gallery of photographs of people proudly (and I mean huge grins) standing over the carcass of many animals th...
