Akhirnya Google secara resmi merilis tutorial tentang SEO bagi semua orang yang masih awam atau pemula dan masih bertanya-tanya, “Bagaimana saya harus memulainya?”. Tutorial yang dikemas secara sistimatis ini lebih banyak ditekankan pada On-Page optimization untuk organic search engine result page, yang akan menjawab semua pertanyaan mengenai prinsip dasar SEO itu sendiri. Walaupun ditujukan bagi pemula, namun tutorial ini juga sangat cocok juga bagi yang merasa sudah ahli dibidang SEO sebagai acuan dan kilas balik karena tutorial ini membahas tentang prinsip-prinsip dasar yang paling utama didalam teknik Search Engine Optimization. Tidak dapat dielakkan lagi, WordPress sebuah Open Source project telah menjadi software standard untuk sebagian besar blogger diseluruh dunia. WordPress juga sebagai CMS yang multifungsi dan tersedianya berbagai jenis plugins dan template yang sudah siap pakai baik yang gratisan maupan yang berbayar, selain itu WordPress bukan hanya bisa digunakan untuk blogging saja namun juga telah digunakan sebagai software CMS portal, company profile, personal homepage, e-commerce, online magazines, newspapers, communities, iklan baris, web sekolah, web villas dan hotels, photo dan video gallery serta masih banyak lagi, beberapa contoh terapannya bisa dilihat di WP Showcase.  Terlebih lagi developer team WordPress selalu mengembangkan dan  memperbaikinya, dan kabar terakhir bahwa WordPress 2.7 akan segera dirilis nanti pada tangal 10 Desember 2008 dan bahkan di wordpress.com sudah diupgrade ke versi 2.7

Banyak perubahan yang terjadi pada WordPress versi 2.7, kabar baiknya bahwa sebagian besar plugin dan template lama masih bisa jalan di versi 2.7 ini. Jadi merupakan sebuah keharusan bagi setiap blogger/pemilik blog untuk mengupgrade software blognya ke versi terbaru ini. Berikut adalah beberapa perubahan yang terjadi di WP versi 2.7:

1. One click plugin install, sekarang anda bisa langsung meng-install dan upgrade plugin yang anda inginkan langsung melalui dashboard dan sangat menghemat waktu anda, karena WP sangat menghargai waktu anda yang anda curahkan untuk menulis blog.
2. Plugin Browser, mencari plugins sekarang semakin mudah langsung dari dasboard, dan kalau cocok langsung bisa di install.
3. Sticky Post, sekarang anda tidak perlu lagi mencari plugin sticky post, sebab sudah built-in pada core program WP 2.7. Sticky post adalah untuk membuat artikel anda selalu tampil dihalaman utama.
4. Upgrading the core, updating core WordPress ke versi terbaru sekarang bisa langsung secara otomatis dari dashboard anda. Ini sangat penting sekali jika ada security update.
5. Comments moderation, reply comment, comment threading, comment paging dan keyboard shortcuts for comments.
6. Quick Edit for Post and Page, mengedit secara cepat artikel seperti judul, slug, kategori, tanggal dan tags.
7. QuickPress, memposting artikel secara cepat dari halaman depan dashboard tanpa harus mebuka halaman posting secara penuh.
8. Recent Drafts, menampilkan draft artikel anda sehingga bisa dengan cepat untuk mengaksesnya.
9. Tampilan Dashboard yang baru dan kolom  item layoutnya bisa digeser-geser.
10. Image Size Tweaks, sekarang file gambar sudah dilengkapi ukuran demensinya, ukurang Large size dibatasi ke 1024 pixel.

Dan tentunya masih banyak perubahan dan peningkatan yang terjadi di versi 2.7 ini, jadi segera siapkan diri anda untuk mengunduh dan mengupgrade blog anda ke versi yang terbaru ini. Selamat blogging!

Pada tulisan terdahulu saya pernah menyampaikan sebuah artikel singkat tentang cara menambahkan sebuah thumbnail image (gambar kecil) pada setiap daftar tulisan pada sebuah blog yang dibangun dengan WordPress. Namun ada beberapa orang mengatakan hal ini sangat sulit sekali dan memakan waktu, manakala pada sebuah blog mempunyai ratusan dan bahkan ribuan artikel yang didalam masing-masing artikel sudah terdapat satu atau beberapa buah photo atau gambar. Maka mereka harus mengedit ulang seluruh artikel yang jumlahnya sudah ribuan atau bahkan jutaan artikel dan menambahkan “Custom Fields” pada masing-masing artikel tersebut, dan tentunya akan membuat kepala menjadi  mumet dan bahkan rambut menjadi rontok ..hehehee :p Nah berikut adalah cara termudah dan dalam sekejap semua artikel anda yang jumlahnya sudah milyaran artikel itu masing-masing akan memiliki sebuah thumbnail secara otomatis (tentunya syarat dan ketentuan tetap berlaku dong!)

Berikut adalah langkah-langkah praktisnya;

1. Langkah I: download file phpThumb, dan extract dengan menggunakan WinZip atau program sejenis seperti TUGZip atau 7-Zip.Lalu uploadlah kedalam folder theme WP yang sedang anda pakai atau aktif.
2. Langkah II: bukalah file functions.php dan tambahkan fungsi php berikut pada bagian akhir sebelum tanda “?>”:

3. Langkah III: buka file style.css dan tambahkan kode css berikut, simpan dan uploadlah,

4. Langkah IV: bukalah file index.php yang ada di directory template php anda dan tambahkan kode html berikut:

5. Ulangi langkah ke-4 diatas pada file seperti archive.php dan search.php jika anda memilikinya di folder theme anda.
6. Langkah V: Coba buka halaman depan blog anda, jika telah ada penampakan thumbnail image, berarti anda telah berhasil. Jika tidak, coba cek kembali langkah-langkahnya dari awal dan jangan lupa berdoa.

Catatan: thumbnnail yang ditampilkan diambil dari image/photo yang telah ada dimasing-masing artikel berdasarkan urutan terkecil, anda bisa merubah urutan (order) sesuai dengan keinginan anda di media gallery pada artikel yang bersangkutan.

Puncak upacara kremasi atau pelebon 3 anggota keluarga kerajaan Puri Ubud – Gianyar, Bali yang telah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 15 Juli 2008 sebagai simbol penghargaan terhadap kehidupan (celebration of  life).  Upacara pelebon kali ini adalah salah satu upacara kremasi keluarga kerajaan terbesar yang telah ada di Bali, dengan Bade setinggi 28,5 meter dan berat 11 ton yang diusung oleh ribuan orang.

Upacara pelebon kali ini dibanjiri oleh ribuan warga dan bahkan beberapa artis ibukota turut juga hadir untuk menyaksikan secara langsung prosesi arak-arakan upacara tersebut. Jalanan dari puri Ubud sampai kuburan Dalem Puri Ubud dipadati oleh penonton yang sejak pagi sudah hadir, sehingga untuk lewatpun terasa sangat susah sekali. Bahkan saya sempat ditelepon oleh rekan saya Dexno yang rumahnya dekat dari lokasi upacara  untuk ditraktir makan siang, namun sangat sulit menemukannya dikerumunan orang yang sangat padat sekali hehehe….

Berikut tutorial singkat cara menambahkan sebuah gambar kecil (thumbnail) kedalam daftar postingan disebuah blog yang menggunakan WordPress CMS dengan memanfaatkan custom fields _nya. Saya tidak akan membahas tentang custom fields itu sendiri, karena akan membuat kita pusing sendiri dalam memahami maupun menerapkannya kedalam blog kita, maklum aku juga masih newbie dibidang WordPress

WordPress has the ability to allow post authors to assign custom fields to a post. This arbitrary extra information is known as meta-data. Meta-data is handled with key/value pairs. The key is the name of the meta-data element. The value is the information that will appear in the meta-data list on each individual post that the information is associated with.

Itulah sedikit gambaran tentang custom fields yang saya temukan di sini

Langsung saja, berikut langkah-langkah yang perlu anda diikuti:

1. Bukalah file style.css yang ada di folder WordPress theme blog anda dengan dengan notepad,
dan tambahkan kode css berikut di dalam file style.css tersebut, lalu simpan:

3. Terapkan langkah ke-2 ke file-file archive.php dan search.php jika perlu.

4. Selanjutnya upload file-file tersebut ke server hosting anda.

5. Saatnya menerapkannya pada postingan anda, cobalah buka salah satu postingan artikel blog anda, dan buatlah sebuah image (gambar) kecil, dalam contoh ini menggunakan ukuran 100pixel x 100pixel dan uploadlah seperti biasa, dalam hal ini anda hanya perlu mengetahui URL file gambar thumbnail tersebut.

6. Terakhir tambahkanlah URL thumbnail gambar tersebut di custom fields, dengan Key: thumbnail dan Value: URL dari gambar thumbnail tadi dengan cut and paste saja, lalu klik tombol “Add Custom Field”. Selanjutnya Save dan lihatlah hasilnya. Jika berhasil anda akan melihat postingan tersebut sudah berisi gambar kecil disebelah kirinya.

Seorang teman memberitahukan kepada saya bahwa situsnya yang menjadi tumpuan untuk mengais rejeki di dunia maya (internet) terkena serangan hacker berupa injeksi atau disusupi kode script yang aneh dan tidak dimengerti. Akibatnya pengunjung web sitenya yang biasanya ribuan orang perhari hanya tinggal 1 – 5 hits saja dan sangat berimbas pada pendapatannya di internet. Setelah ditelusuri memang benar bahwa situsnya dikategorikan mengandung malicious content oleh search engine – dan jika dibiarkan berlarut-larut akan sangat berpengaruh pada SERP (search engine result page) dan SEO pun akan menjadi sia-sia. Beruntungnya beberapa software anti virus yang terkini sudah mampu mendeteksi web/blog yang terkena malicious content tersebut.

Salah satunya adalah AVG Anti-Virus Versi 8.0 – pada AVG Ver. 8.0 free edition sudah dilengkapi dengan AVG Security Toolbar dan AVG Safe Search yang sudah cukup mampu dipakai untuk mendeteksi sebuah situs terkena malicious content atau tidak. Tapi sayangnya AVG Security Toolbar maupun AVG Safe Search ver 8.0 tidak kompatible dengan browser Firefox 3.0 – sepertinya harus menunggu update berikutnya, sebagai alternatif anda bisa menggunakan browser IE.

Apabila anda sudah menginstall AVG Anti-Virus Ver. 8.0, cara mendeteksinya sangat gampang  saja – bukalah  web browser IE atau Firefox anda terus bukalah Google.com lalu ketikkanlah site:domainanda.com lalu search. Maka search engine Google akan melakukan pencarian terhadap halaman-halaman situs web anda, dan AVG Safe Search pun bekerja secara langsung untuk mendeteksi halaman-halaman dari situs anda tersebut, dalam kasus berikut saya search menggunakan keyword “Bali Villas” dan hasilnya mungkin seperti berikut ini:

dan apabila anda hand/mouse over pada icon x dengan border merah akan muncul seperti dibawah;

selanjutnya setelah link situs yang terkena/mengandung “malicious content” tersebut diklik maka akan muncul pesan peringatan sbb;

Inilah salah satu yang menyebabkan pengunjung ke situs anda menjadi turun drastis. Kalau sudah begini apa yang harus anda perbuat? Maka cepat-cepatlah memeriksa kode HTML di halaman web site anda yang terkena injeksi, dan jika menemukan kode html yang aneh langsung saja perbaiki atau dibersihkan, dan setelah di edit upload ke web server anda seperti biasa. Hanya itu saja? tentu saja masih perlu langkah-langkah pencegahan lainnya yang dianggap perlu untuk menghindari terulangnya kembali situs anda di-injeksi oleh tangan-tangan jahil di dunia maya. Mungkin tips ca.com disini juga akan sangat membantu anda.

p.s. Saat ini AVG sudah mengupdate softwarenya (ke versi 8.0.135) dan pluginnya sudah kompatible dengan Firefox 3.0

• Download & Install Add-ons: the Add-ons Manager (Tools > Add-ons) can now be used to download and install a Firefox customization from the thousands of Add-ons available from our community add-ons website. When you first open the Add-ons Manager, a list of recommended Add-ons is shown.
• Easy to use Download Actions: a new Applications preferences pane provides a better UI for configuring handlers for various file types and protocol schemes.

Improved Platform for Developers

• New graphics and font handling: new graphics and text rendering architectures in Gecko 1.9 provides rendering improvements in CSS, SVG as well as improved display of fonts with ligatures and complex scripts.
• Color management: (set gfx.color_management.enabled on in about:config and restart the browser to enable.) Firefox can now adjust images with embedded color profiles.
• Offline support: enables web applications to provide offline functionality (website authors must add support for offline browsing to their site for this feature to be available to users).

Improved Performance

• Speed: improvements to our JavaScript engine as well as profile guided optimizations have resulted in continued improvements in performance. Compared to Firefox 2, web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office run twice as fast in Firefox 3, and the popular SunSpider test from Apple shows improvements over previous releases.
• Memory usage: Several new technologies work together to reduce the amount of memory used by Firefox 3 over a web browsing session. Memory cycles are broken and collected by an automated cycle collector, a new memory allocator reduces fragmentation, hundreds of leaks have been fixed, and caching strategies have been tuned.
• Reliability: A user’s bookmarks, history, cookies, and preferences are now stored in a transactionally secure database format which will prevent data loss even if their system crashes.
