There are many HTML (and associated technologies) websites available. For the beginer they all look good and valid. Some of these though are written by people who really do not have a clue, have not proof-read, have not their work or simply do not understand the language. My students would ask me to suggest a site(s) to them, and to this day there is one that I will refer to constantly, W3Schools. On the site, they say that W3Schools is "A collection of free HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML, XML, XHTML, WAP, ASP, SQL tutorials with lots of working examples and source code." The site has a vast collection of materials and is one of the few that I truly trust to be correct.

Too many website developers still code their websites for older browsers. For example some still build their websites aiming them at Internet Explorer 5 or even earlier and then add additional functionality for newer browsers. This is known as progressive coding.

Record site visitors

I wrote in two previous posts (here and here) about record number of visitors to my website. In the 2008 post (stats for 2007) this number was at 3,057 visitors which Iw as pleased with. Then in the 2009 post (stats for 2008) the number of visitors stood at 15,737. This year has already seen this thrashed. To date this year (1st January 2009 to 5 June 2009) the website has had 16,897 visitors. This is due to several reasons:

The Black Death has his many countries around the world killing millions. An estimated 100 million at it's height, may be more, in the mid 14th century. The Black Death is commonly thought to be an out break of bubonic plague, although this has been questioned.

The Commodore Story: A Company on the Edge by Brian Bagnall is, as the name suggests, all about the history of Commodore. Commodore was seen by many in the 70’s and 80’s as a pioneering computer company with cutting edge machines that were on a par with the likes of the Apple Mac and Lisa.

What if the structure of DNA had not been discovered, or had been discovered 100 years earlier? Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) stores the information that tells cells how to develop and what their function is. Without this, life as we know it is not possible. It was in 1951 that James Watson and Francis Crick started their work on figuring out the structure of DNA. Since then development has increased dramatically to the point where animals and plants can be genetically engineered by altering their DNA.

Site Down and Free PSD conversion

This site and others were down earlier today due to issues with the server that the hosting company quickly rectified. I appologise for any issues this has caused.

I have (re)developed a couple of websites over the last few months/years including Thatcham Online, Thatcham Historical Society, Business Training Solutions and Young's Comemrcials.
