I have chided Apple before for their actions when it applies to applications more on the adult side. Not in allegiance with porn and those who love it, but in allegiance with the right as an adult to be free to use ones 'paid for' device to view "legal" material that may be considered racy by some. But on this one, I'm fully behind Apple.

BeautyMeter has been pulled from the app store after the seemingly innocent app showed it's true colors. The application says that it's for 17 and over and is a photo sharing app where users can upload images and rate them. Problem, kids began uploading images of themselves in the nude like the 15-year old in the above photo.

The app requires users to enter their iPhone ID so that any illegal material can be tracked back to the person who posted it. But somehow this photo went up, stayed up and was rated by over 5000 users until Apple finally pulled the plug today (Thursday).

This will make it hard for any other "Adult" app to get through the App Store's rigid process.

Verizon Ozone users and presumably Sprint HTC Snap owners could be due for a 6.5 shot in the arm according to the Bluetooth certification org. The BCO has leaked a build of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the HTC Ozone (Cedar) which is 'possible' proof of life for the upgrade. If the Ozone (Cedar) is getting it, it only stands to reason the Snap can utilize the build as well, since they are essentially the same device with different carrier brands on them.

This will be an interesting one to follow, with the possibility of some very happy HTC owners at the end.

The great long time actor Karl Malden has died today at age 97. Karl Malden died in his Brentwood home with his family present. Most probably know him as Lt. Mike Stone in the 70's TV show Streets Of San Francisco with then starting actor Michael Douglas, or as Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire alongside Marlon Brando.

Malden won a Oscar for his performance in Street Car, but also starred alongside Brando in on the Waterfront. However, IMHO, if you want to see insanely amazing acting, watch him a film called Baby Doll where he played "Archie Lee Meighan" a character that you wont believe was actually portrayed in a 1956 American movie.

Karl Malden was definitely a under appreciated actor. Maybe in his death his films, to which there are many, will be shown more so that his talent is heralded along with actors whose looks put them more in the forefront.

$199 on a two year on July 12th. And keep in mind (as I like to point out) "Simply Everything" gives you everything single thing there is in mobile and Blackberry usage for only $99 a month.

Folks had already begun to line up outside of Michael Jackson's ex home; Neverland Ranch. The hack is still a work in progress but progress is good, and if you're careful you can be working some PlayStation games in no time. Okay, there's some time involved here because it's not yet ready for prime time. But the hacker extraordinaire says that it will be ready soon!

Note:
There is no sound output (but it’s emulated), as Pulse Audio is required for the Palm Pre, and I have yet to support it. It will come soon.
I have not figured out hardware rotation or scaling, or whether it is possible. Until then I am using the raw framebuffer device and blitting 320×240 software scaled.
I figured out how to read the keypad device on the Palm Pre, though there are times it fails to give a keyup event, making keys “stick”. This is annoying and I’m looking for a workaround.
As things progress I will have fullscreen landscape working as well.

This is exciting times for handheld users, as the OMAP3 SoC (System On Chip) is nice and speedy with it’s ARM Cortex A8!

Though the Palm Pre has the performance edge over the iPhone 3GS, at very least with my software, I’m not playing favorites. No worries there.

However, the one problem I consistently have is remembering where I put the translate bookmark when I need to use it. The HTC Hero will no doubt be a big hit when it hits the American shores, but that hit material is on a slow boat to US carriers. The high court said that the democrat and one time comedian is to be certified as the winner. Republican Governor and Coleman supporter Tim Pawlenty, has said repeatedly that if the court ruled in Franken's favor, he would abide by the ruling and certify the election.

It will be interesting to hear the statements made today by both Pawlenty and Coleman. Are they going to commit political suicide, or are they going to follow the rule of law?

Franken's victory means that Democrats now have a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate, as long as Lieberman keeps his nose out of the butt of McCain.

Update: All is well in Minnesota Political land. Coleman has given his concession speech, Pawlenty announced that he will certify the election and Al Franken has given a victory speech. We can all sleep peacefully tonight knowing that Minnesota now has it's two Senators.

According to reports by CNN, the body of Michael Jackson will be at his Neverland Ranch for public viewing this Friday.  There is no word on if Jackson will be interred there, but word has it that his hometown of Gary, Indiana is petitioning for the late artist to be buried in Gary.

In case you didn't notice it on your Pre, Palm has pushed out another update. 1.0.4 fixes some security holes that had potential for real harm. Sadly, the update plugs the hole that brought "Homebrew" apps to the Pre. But hey, if you can send a homebrew app via email and download straight onto the Pre, think about what else could be sent.

U.S. District Judge Denny Chin lowered the boom on caught financial swindler Bernard Madoff today in Manhattan. 71-year old Madoff was sentence to 150 years in prison. Judge Chin said he felt he needed to send a message to any other potential swindlers out there.

Summary:

We can jailbreak the 3GS right now. But making our jailbreak public at this point in time would benefit relatively few people. It would in fact be detrimental to many more people than it would help. So we feel it’s best to keep our version of the jailbreak out of Apple’s sights for the time being.

Details:

If you already have a 3GS phone and have already done a full USB dump or captured your img3’s signed with your ECID, then you’re in great shape. You will always be able to jailbreak. But many people who plan on getting a 3GS do not yet have one. For instance, many people are waiting for their existing contracts to mature to the point where they get a price break on the 3GS. Many people are trying to sell their 3G before they can buy the 3GS. There are parts of the globe where you can’t even buy a 3GS yet! The reasons are varied, but they are many.

The nature of the 3GS hardware allows Apple to stop IPSWs from being usable unless you’ve already gotten the signed chunks they send to you based on your ECID (a unique chip ID). You cannot get these signed chunks without knowing your ECID, and you don’t know your ECID until you’ve bought your 3GS.

The jailbreak requires at least one signed iBoot-family img3 for your device. And that iBoot needs to have an exploitable bug. It’s an all-or-nothing deal…you either have your signed exploitable iBoot ready to use, for now and forever — always jailbreakable — or you have nothing.

Here’s the critical point, the reason why we’re delaying our version of the jailbreak: Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do…the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.

It is possible that Apple will find the bug we use without our handing it to them on a silver platter (via a public jailbreak). In that case, we will have delayed our jailbreak for “nothing”. But we’d rather be safe than sorry!

Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak.

In the meantime, we have some remaining 3.0 jailbreak issues to investigate, including push notification. Thanks for being patient with us while we took a 3GS “timeout”!

Until then, you'll have to be a part of the Federation like the rest of us.

For those that were lucky enough to jump on to Google Voice after Google purchased it from Grand Central and sent out open invites, they already know how great a web app it is. For those who didn't jump on board then, before it was closed to the public, their chance to learn how great it is right around the corner.

Last week Google began sending out invites to join the service, so millions more will get in on the action.

If you don't know what Google Voice is, let me give you a brief introduction. What started out as a simple Visual Voicemail app that allows users to recieve a written transcript of voicemail messages on the web, or delivered to a handset, is now much, much more.

Google added the ability to choose a phone number and have any calls to that number forwarded to your handset. Users could then screen any calls along with recieving a written transcript of the message. There is also a online inbox where users can take care of all calling business.

Google Voice also allows the user to send and recieve SMS text messages for free. Those messages can too be forwarded to the users handset.

Users can also make calls using their Google number so the recieving end never need know your actual carrier phone number. There is also a rumor working that Google will soon be allowing the porting of your actual carrier number.

Now that GV is opening to the public, it only stands to reason that Google will offer their very own mobile app to use with the hottest selling handsets, but there is no telling when that app will come, and in it's infant beta stage, how useful it will be. Google has proven that they need a few iterations of a mobile app before they get it just right.

In the absence of an official app, iPhone and iPod Touch owners can take advantage of an fantastic app called GV Mobile from Sean Kovacs.

I have been using GV Mobile for over a week now and I have to say, Google will have to really show up with something extraordinary to get users to replace it. GV Mobile provides quick and easy access to all of the features that are available online.

Users can dial right from the app (iPhone) and GV Mobile will connect to your account and make the call. Users can also on both the iPhone and iPod Touch see and listen to any message left on the accounts voicemail. Listen, save or delete from your (I) device.

My favorite feature is SMS text. Users can use the text feature just as they would from their desktop, send and recieve text messages through GV Mobile and save a ton of dough.

There is one drawback that I hope Sean fixes soon. There are no notifications, so If you recieve a reply to your text, or someone simply sends a text, you won't know until you open the app. Include notification now that 3.0 allows for it, and GV Mobile becomes the perfect app and hard to beat even by Google themselves.

If you are a Google Voice user or plan to be soon, do yourself a favor and grab GV Mobile, it's the perfect companion for the perfect Voicemail app.

GV Mobile allows users of Google Voice to:

dial numbers (domestic for free and international at a variable rate) via the iPhone’s address book or typing in on the keypad

retrieve and delete recent call history
playback and delete voicemails

GV Mobile initiates a secure connection with Google Voice and sends a command to do various tasks(call, send sms, etc). GV Mobile communicates only with Google Voice, no one else.

Please note that GV Mobile relies heavily on the use of an internet connection (3G, EDGE, Wifi, etc).
If your internet connection is shady a best, this app may not function properly. A future update will include ‘Offline Mode’ which will allow for dialing using your Google Voice number without the need of an internet connection.

Yeah, they're working hard to stave off that Mojo leak last week. For someone reason I believe strongly that most of that $201M made since Wednesday night is wanted back by the movie goers that created the whopping total.  Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen left all the other films in the dust this weekend with a take of $112M, and a total of $201 since it's opening Wednesday night.   The Proposal stuck around for the #2 slot and a respectable $18M take, pretty much ensuring us that Ryan Renolds will be around to annoy the hell out of us for at least five more movies before the year is up.

The surprise comedy hit The Hangover stayed in the top five with a 3rd place showing of $17M to bring its total to $183M, while UP, the animated masterpiece held on to the #4 position with another $13M to add to it's total.

Billy Mays, the boisterous TV pitchman for Orange Glo, OxiClean and a few other late night television household product break through inventions, has been found dead at the age of 50 in his Tampa Bay home.

Mays was found by his wife who found him unresponsive at 7:45 a.m this morning.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days," said Mays' wife, Deborah. "Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times." AP--

Cause of death has yet to be determined and at the moment police are ruling out foul play. Billy Mays had been recently making the rounds in promotion for his new co-hosted Discovery Channel show "Pitchmen."

iRentMovie

It's hard to beat Netflix when it comes to movie rentals. The company provides a easy inexpensive way to kick back with the family and watch whatever you want by stripping away the need to return it the next day. For $4.99 a month and a postage stamp, you just can't beat it. HD PTP theme

You may remember that Sprint has stated that it has plans to release a tri-mode CDMA/WiMax sometime between now and 2010. Suddenly that statement holds a lot more interest as there is word that the new Android powered Samsung 4G device is in Sprint testing as we speak, or read....

As exciting as that news is, for me, a Sprint subscriber, even better is word that the new HTC Hero could be a Sprint phone before the year is up. Of course this is just a rumor, but there is no reason to not follow this rumor to it's conclusion, which hopefully ends with a big Android announcement.

Sprint is in need of a more diverse smartphone line, they are in need of a Android device. The HTC Hero would be one helluva entry Android device for the 3rd largest carrier, and a boon for their subscribers. We'll watch this one closely.

Yuck!  Ever unknowingly step in a piece of gum and then it get's stuck to the carpet in your car.  Well not to fear, duct tape is here.   Take a piece of the tape and press it onto the gooey mess, then peel back the tape and discard.  Repeat with a fresh piece until the gum is gone.  What would we do without duct tape.

Update: Los Angeles Times is now confirming that Michael Jackson has died.

Update: TMZ is saying that Michael Jackson has died from a Heart attack that he suffered in his Holmby Hills home this morning. Jackson was only 50 years of age. More details as they filter in.

Michael Jackson has died at age 50 after being rushed to UCLA Medical Center, NBC News has confirmed.

Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the L.A. Times that Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home and CPR was performed.---MSNBC
