Finally, ice cream made for adults and served in an “adults only environment”, Humphry Slocombe (2790 Harrison at 24th St.) and Shotwell’s Bar (3349 20th St at Shotwell) are teaming up this Sunday (July 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.) to serve up ice cream beer floats from behind Shotwell’s hundred year old bar. Who says you can only serve ice cream from behind the Formica! With mad skills and talent to boost, Humphry Slocombe cleverly combined Double Chocolate Stout beer with their delicious ice cream, another two great tastes that taste great together combination. Stop by Shotwell’s Bar this Sunday when Humphry Slocombe hands over their scoop to the bartender and taste what happens!

In the spring of 2008 Canadian pop-folk band Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a two week tour when they witnessed a United Airlines baggage handler throwing around the band’s guitars, severely damaging lead signer Dave Carroll’s Taylor guitar. Frustrated with United’s lack of compensation, the band decided to write 3 songs about the incident. They just released the first song, “United Breaks Guitars”. Dave explains the full story on his website.

Salon co-founder Scott Rosenberg just wrote a new book “Say Everything: How Blogging Began, What It’s Becoming, and Why It Matters”, about the history of blogging and its impact on society.

In Say Everything, Scott Rosenberg chronicles blogging’s unplanned rise and improbable triumph, tracing its impact on politics, business, the media, and our personal lives. He offers close-ups of innovators such as Blogger founder Evan Williams, investigative journalist Josh Marshall, exhibitionist diarist Justin Hall, software visionary Dave Winer, “mommyblogger” Heather Armstrong, and many others.

As part of the research for his book, Scott made a video where he attempts to find out Who Was The First Blogger?.

Back in April Thomas Knoll and Whit Scott won a lime green Ford Fiesta in The Fiesta Movement contest (here’s their entry video) that they now driving around for 6 months and documenting their missions as Ford Fiesta Agents.

For their second mission they turned the Fiesta into the Twitter Taxi where people asked them for rides using Twitter. Violet Blue and Ben Metcalfe make an appearance in the Twitter Taxi video, interviewing each other in the back seat.

According to the LA Weekly, it looks like the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag, which was originally an April Fool’s joke by Think Geek, might actually be made for real.

This high-quality sleeping bag looks just like a Tauntaun, complete with saddle, internal intestines and glowing lightsaber zipper pull. Recently, Air New Zealand released a new flight safety video for their Boeing 737’s called “The Bare Essentials of Safety”, that features some of their employees giving demonstrations in the nude. However, their bodies are covered in paint that look like air crew uniforms. As if their Kiwi accents weren’t enough to make us love them.

“RE:Invention” is a short documentary by Cathy Goerz that shows how for some people the economic crisis has become an opportunity for positive transformation.

RE:Invention is a movie about how people have responded to the economic downturn and how it has affected them. Rather than allowing these troubling times to create bitterness and anger, these people have taken their financially challenged situations and made positive changes to their lives.

Cathy is now working on an extended 30 minute version of this documentary and she is looking for new interview subjects.

My San Francisco-based team of filmmakers is producing another short documentary that continues to explore how the economic downturn is an opportunity for personal transformation and positive social change. We are shooting interviews in Northern California during July 2009. We are looking for three kinds of people to be interviewed and featured in the film.
