6. Jazz: Stormy Weather by fatchance

"Stormy Weather" is a 1933 song written by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler. Ethel Waters first sang it at The Cotton Club night club in Harlem. It has since been covered by artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra and Clodagh Rodgers. Leo Reisman's orchestra had the biggest hit on records, although Ethel Waters recorded version also performed well.
The song tells of disappointment, as the lyrics, "Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky" show someone pining for their to return. The weather is a metaphor for the feelings of the singer; "stormy weather since my man and I ain't together, keeps raining all the time."
Ethel Waters recording of the song in 1933 was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003, and the Library of Congress honored the song by adding it to the National Recording Registry in 2004.

This is another Vaya Con Dios song that I was lucky enough to find a backing track for...there are two songs I would dearly love to do of theirs if anyone would like to collaborate...one is called Heading for a Fall...Henno actually requested that one and I love it...the second is Dont Cry for Louie...I have a backing track for it but the fake harmonica at the beginning is enough to make me projectile vomit anyway if anyone can help me out please dont hesitate to message me...theres no rush, I wont be able to get to it for a couple of weeks or maybe longer...thanks for listening, the backing is by Kantuta

Alanatomic pointed this awesome instrumental out to me...and i thought is was so sexxy.it just had this groove that i couldn't ignore.so i reached deep within my pocket of lust and pulled out this great ear-gasm...lol..Alanatomic touched it up and made it better than i originally recorded it..and we hope u enjoy this fine production.

A little while ago I received a message from Toveco, with a link to Videoscore's song "Appalachian Spring," saying that he thought I might be interested in singing the vocals for it. I'd never done a collaboration through iComp before, so the idea was really exciting and I checked it out right away. When I heard Videoscore's lovely music and read his lyrics and the story behind the song, I loved it and really wanted to give it a try! I listed to KissMeKate's beautiful version as well, and enjoyed it very much, it inspired me even more.
When I had the song finished, I sent it to Toveco and he remastered it wonderfully.
Thanks for the heads up, Toveco, and thanks for letting be a part of such a touching song, Videoscore! This has been a fun experience.

Clay, who owns MelTone Records, was contacted by famed BBC historian, Giles Forseith. Forseith wanted to do a documentary of MelTone. Clay then put Forseith in touch with me, for he was leaving for a tour of Rhode Island. He felt everything would go well as long as I was in charge. I set up a tour of the MelTone Towers provided by Timrek the Gorf. Many famous and not so famous musicians have worked at the Towers located in beautiful downtown Springfield. Giles and Timrek clashed from the very start of the festivities as you will plainly see. Timrek was vulgar and belligerent all through the interview. Just when we thought he was becoming calm, he shot out another zinger at Forseith. Giles, usually a patient man, downed an entire handful of Xanax. In spite of it all, Giles managed to pull off a fascinating interview. Enjoy, if you can, these outtakes from the final cut of this highly anticipated documentary! It is scheduled for a winter 2009 worldwide release.

Five months and twenty tracks, and it is finally completed. Anthony Frazier and myself put a lot of time and creativity into this project. I received many comments on the original post here and at MacJams. I decided to start over with a clean slate. It turned out to be a major project for us both, as we pushed each other musically. I wrote this song back in the early 80s originally on a Ross 4 track cassette recorder. It was only 3 tracks at the time. Guitar, Bass and a bean bag ashtray. So today I decided to play live drums on it and add some keys. For the drums I only used overheads. It�s funny what you can do some old tracks. No cut and paste!

Ok they were on the phone with Angela and after freaking out over her voice they came in the studio and said they have a song they wanted her to hear. Antonio is 7 and Akilah is 8. They made their lyrics up as they went. I just threw a simple track together and was like WOW!!! This is what you get when you have kids who grew up being babysitted in a studio. Akilah released a song when she was 4 and it sold 50 copies.

This is one of the first songs I remember really liking as a young 13 year old. I think for a fleeting instant it made me wonder what it would be like to be a father. Now I'm a grandfather and it is still a song I like even after all the crazy stuff i listened too for the past 43 years. I couldn't resist doing a sing along on it. It took me a little out of my comfort zone which I like to do from time to time.

Apologies in advance but this has to be played loud, and will make your ears bleed.

STORY BEGIND THE SONG: Sailing is peaceful, except when it's not. I was channeling some "not" times - rough chop, big seas and storms - when doing this one. It's dedicated to the Susan Elizabeth, my friend's 30-foot mistress (pictured above), a boat just big enough for big water. This year's June/July trip (Long Island to Nantucket and points in between) had lots of fog and storms chasing us but was thankfully devoid of major drama.

DRUMS? Elusive but may happen. My ideal is a polyrhythmic (mostly 6/8) percussive merger of Yes' Alan White (Tales from Topographic Oceans, Close to the Edge) and the Allman Bros. Live at Fillmore East.
