Stained Glass by geofflapptrio (6.00)

\'The Geoff Lapp Trio\' delivers a sound that is tasteful, innovative, and infectiously swinging. The disc features 5 original compositions and 5 jazz standards.

With a mix of freshly-interpreted standards and all-new originals, the disc offers a sparkling assortment of tunes from three of Montreal’s most respected jazzmen.

Many devotees of contemporary jazz will recognize Geoff Lapp’s piano stylings through his work with artists such as Slide Hampton, Rainee Lee, Stephanie Biddle and Paquito d’Rivera. For jazz fans in Montreal, however, the Geoff Lapp Trio is a landmark in its own right. Having played extended gigs at many of the town's premiere night spots since 1999, this is the group aficionados seek out for that heady space where soulful and cerebral fuse -- the alembic of great jazz moments.

On 'Stained Glass', we find Lapp in characteristic form -- tastefully articulate and harmonically innovative – and embarking on melodic explorations that take full advantage of the uninhibited freedoms offered by the trio format. The disc features 5 original compositions which range from the bright and capricious “Sunny Rays” to the bluesy “Kathy’s Waltz” to the textured complexity of “Theme for Margaret”. Five standards are also included, with ballads such as “Elsa” and “Day Dream” setting off the more upbeat swing tunes like “Sweet Lorraine” and “The Party’s Over”.

'Stained Glass' track listing:

"Sunny Rays" (G. Lapp)

"Elsa" (Earl Zindars)
"With A Song In My Heart" (Rogers & Hart)
"Day Dream" (B. Strayhorn)
"Kathy’s Waltz" (G. Lapp)
"Yo Bro" (G. Lapp)
"Theme For Margaret" (G. Lapp)
"Zack In The Box" (G. Lapp)
"The Party’s Over" (J. Styne)
"Sweet Lorraine" (M. Parish & C. Burwell)

Public Songs For Private Use by DiedrichWeiss (10.00)

For some this will be devastatingly truth-filled and transcendant. For others it will be uncomfortable. For all it will be an amazing studio performance of outstanding original material.

I felt confronted throughout the process by how revealed and emotionally naked I felt before, during and after recording "Public Songs For Private Use". It's not recorded or mixed in a way that we are used to with modern recordings. It's sparse, not cosmetically cleaned up, and not sonically pumped up to compete with industry releases. It’s just the strength of the song and the performance, and me, as developed as a person, or undeveloped, as I truly am. I didn't like most of my favorite and enduring music when I first listened to it. The same for this record. I almost didn't put it out. During a stage of insecurity with having my humanity so transparent, my partner Ellen wrote this to me:

"Not doing this recording was not an option for you, that was very clear, I remember. It is honest, raw, earnest, soulful, and yes, it does expose, but that was the point. It is moving in what you say and how you say/sing it. So, it takes the listener to a more reflective place. It is a statement, yes, but it also embodies pain and darkness, digging, exposing and healing, understanding, compassion, love, light, appreciation, and more, in my opinion. Your humanity yes, but humanity itself, which we all share. You are not alone in your experiences. It may feel pretty naked but it will ring true for the rest of us, you know it. We circle around you Honey. So, you may not get 'immediate' feedback from your listeners, as these songs need a little time to digest and filter in, although don't forget that the musicality of your voice and guitar by itself is cool, interesting, beautiful and pleasing. Haunting sometimes. Powerful. Maybe you are just exhausted inside from the whole experience of it; the listener will not be. They are bringing fresh ears".

I want to acknowledge some works of deep influence and inspiration. For years I’ve felt in awe of four masterful recordings: Joni Mitchell’s “Blue”, Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon”, Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changin’”, and Patty Griffin’s “Living With Ghosts” – all solo studio recordings. The performances are sourced from the root of their deepest self and the writing works like a collection of short stories or poems, distinct from one another, and yet interlaced by its themes and repertoire of images. These recordings are not acoustic versions of their songs. They are complete communications in themselves with a meaningful arc over the whole. Songs often begin like pencil drawings. Perhaps these song’s subjects resisted being put to canvas with paint, or in the case of music, full group arrangements, and the artists were wise enough to let them be as sparse and as authentic as they are.

Red Bird Rising by DiedrichWeiss (10.00)

Strong vocals and lyrics surrounded by sonic surprises all emotionally hitting the chest and heart.

Arranging songs can be like Impressionist painting; the artist has a stated subject yet there is also the imagination’s impression of it. In arranging the songs of “Red Bird Rising” I took the freedom to create psychological spaces through music to reflect the inner experience of what the lyrics convey. This is fitting because the true action of the songs occur in the inner world. It is me moving through the effects of suicide, mental illness, injustice, affliction and addiction and toward transformation, gratitude, and a spiritual home within this material existence.

In 1999 the artist Moby released his album “Play”. This recording inspiringly impressed upon me that one person could create all this by themselves in an apartment. I imagined him in his New York City flat like a painter in his studio. Through the advancement of music creation software and samples he was free to assemble the vision from his own uniquely personal eye. I do love this recording but most importantly it inspired me to buy my first computer and begin to approach my songs as a painter creating upon a sonic canvass.

 Instrumental Guitar album.

Hi!

Thanks for checking out my music! I have wanted to record an instrumental album for years but never really got around to it...

This has been a real pleasure to record and release. The album was recorded at home on the Boss Micro BR and took around 4 months to complete. All the instruments on the album were played by myself so it really was a solo effort! The album was also funded by myself.

I would like to thank my partner Sarah and my dog Alf for all their support and musical input with this release.

Thanks guys!

Greg.

Corey does not fail to deliver high energy beats in his world debut album!

The debut album from Corey Edwards - featuring the hits "Synthetixperiments," "Cellbeats," and "Chelsea's Song."

Armed with passion for synths and good beats, Corey sets out to create some of the most unusual and addicting tunes ever heard. From the mixed up wackiness of Cellbeats, to the tripped out use of sawtooth waves in Sawblade, every rule of music is broken or distorted into an interesting mixup mashup of electronica, rock, and hip-hop.

Not only his unique voice, organic grooves, outstanding lyrics and solid sense of melody give his tracks a signature. The way he mixes and layers his music is unlike anything I’ve heard. (Tobin M)

jiguma is Neil Porter.

Neil is a versatile Australian bassist, guitarist, singer and midi-drum obsessive from the wilds of the Far South Coast of New South Wales.

He writes songs about life, family and his personal take on the “bigger picture”. Many of Neil’s songs are firmly based in the unique history and beautiful landscapes of his coastal home.

Neil has played bass in Sydney bands “Marastique”, “The Rusty Dusty Brothers”, and “The Great Dividing Band” and won’t let anyone forget that he once played with the legendary Tamam Shud – “once” being the operative word.

A lyrical bass style, quirky guitar work and a unique voice gives Neil’s music a distinct sound – rhythmic, smooth and thoughtful.

A chance meeting with the MacJams music site led to a marathon song writing effort resulting in over 50 songs in a little over two years. During this creative quest, Neil discovered the joys of music production and recording and also negotiated the steep learning curve which that involves.

The 13 songs on “jiguma dreaming”, Neil’s first CD, include songs from the past three years, and cover a range of styles, all of which Neil covers with the “Australian Acoustic Rock” blanket.

There are 8 other musicians who assisted on various tracks: Alf Solti (keys), Anne Cozean (backing vocals), Hugh Mohr (guitar), Jan Porter (backing vocals), Jason Gazda (didgeridoo), Mike Watkins (drums and percussion), Thor Oliversen (guitar) and Fran Dagostino (guitar).

 Restless folk and world roots

Folk Off is the essence of this Troubadour verite’ taking us along the streets, the fields and plains, in the dark alleys, the back of dimly lit rooms, the sweaty pubs and stolid gin joints, all in the name of an existentialism that will capture you as it did me. Bringing his unique interpretations to other artists’ songs and placing you front and center for the story in his own writing, Folk Off is a proud moment for PATCH Records because Dyl’s talents deserve more than just a digital glimpse. He has paid his dues in a restless folk and alt country that blends as much punk attitude as it does worldly wisdom. In a disposable short-attention society - this record makes you stop and buy a ticket for the whole ride.
Dark electronica with a glimmer of light.

An evolution of the artist, this album is appropriately named. Each track has elements of both darkness and light, thick with atmosphere from synths and drums. A guest appearance by Encrypted Verbalist gives the album another dimension, incorporating hip-hop.

14 Year Old Dylan Seeger Makes A Comeback With His New Pop Album.

Fourteen year old Dylan Seeger's new album "Walk Along" is a refreshing new approach to the pop music genre. Songs on this album feature "Accomplished songwriting and instrumentation" along with "excellent soulful singing", says an artist from iCompositions.com. "Music is a gift from a source greater than ourselves. If we're lucky we figure it out, and in your case that's not a problem at all," says musician and KJZZ radio host Paul Anderson in response to Dylan Seeger's song, "Part of Me", "the other part of that is being Able to do it; Talent is a gift that should not be wasted... You don't have that problem either." Songs such as "Walk Without Me" demonstrate "epic structure & instrumentation", says iCompositions artist Randolf Ambrose. Dylan Seeger's consistent twist on the pop style never gets old and will leave you singing all day long.

A collection of soulful and contemplative piano trios

Sunrise at Basin Harbor aims to celebrate all that is grand about a peaceful getaway on a calm summer day. The music is soulful and contemplative. With the piano taking the lead, the violin and cello join in this chamber work to bring about expressions of exuberance that remind one of pleasant summer mornings in Vermont. Written entirely in Apple’s Logic, the music is mastered to deliver a mood that is part classical, part modern.
DEATH METAL BAND

This new record is the natural prosecution of Gory Blister project mixing old school aggression with the technical and progressive music into classic death metal. Moreover, from the initial comparison with masters Death, the band has acquired more and more personality, so that you will always experiance originality both in riffs and lyrics.

As for the production, the band managed to increase the brightness of the sound as well as the heavy aggression. What you will hear in this record is fresh original, technical and heavy death metal 100%.
Despite the fact that many people used to say death metal was dead in late nineties, bands such as Gory Blister show that indeed it is more kicking *** than ever.

A collection of smooth funky jazz songs in multiple styles.

ManoReza Music presents:

The Acid Jazz Project Vol 1. A conceptual jazz album featuring funky, esoteric instrumentals with recurring themes in multiple styles.

The Acid Jazz Project Vol 1 is the part 1 of a trilogy. Each volume will focus on specific areas of the Acid Jazz genre. Volume 1 is an overview of styles. Several areas are covered in this first volume including: Funk, Smooth Jazz, Latin Jazz and R&B/Soul.

The genesis of this project was the discovery by the composer of an album called Nuyorican Soul. The album features great music by several artists and captured the imagination of Mano Reza upon first listen. Starting from this first inspiration, Mano Reza began to compose an album that would eventually embody the influence of several artists including: Herbie Handcock, Paul Hardcastle, The Brand New Heavies, Carlos Santana, Incognito and others.

Highlights on this album include the groove heavy "Getting Started Part 1", the funky jazz twist on the blues progression called "Blue Minor 7th" and "The Construct" (Parts 1 and 2).

The Acid Jazz Project Vol 1 was made for lovers of good music to enjoy. Take a listen!
