LG Android Phone By June, More To Follow

LG has confirmed their fingerprints will be on a new Android phone for release by June. In addition, the company plans to add two more Android powered phones by the end of 2009. LG had a definite Windows Phone focus during Mobile World Congress, so this certainly comes as good news for those wanting LG flavored Android phones.

Android Market Introduces Support for Paid Apps

Google has announced via their blog, support for paid applications in the Android Market. According to Eric Chu, the Android Market is accepting priced applications from US and UK developers. Paid apps will be available as early as the middle of next week.

Google Checkout will be the dedicated payment mechanism for the Android Market.

Component Orders Placed for Next Generation Android Phone

TXC has reportedly received quartz component orders for the HTC's next generation Android phone or G2. TXC is currently the quartz component supplier for HTC's current T-Mobile G1 smartphone.

Google today announced the release of My Tracks, a new application that will appeal to runner's, those who enjoy trail hiking and people who find themselves getting lost all too often. My Tracks is available as a free download in the Android Market in the Lifestyles section.

Samsung To Delay Release of Android Based Phones

Google today announced Android 1.1 SDK that allows developers to take advantage of new API's. According to Google's Android Developer Blog, the changes are minor but still very useful. In addition to new API's, the SDK features a new emulator image that allows you to test your apps.

An updated v1.1 system image for the Android Developer Phone 1 will be coming soon.

Dataviz, developers of DocumentsToGo, are expected to demonstrate a version for the Android next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Documents To Go is essentially a mobile version of Office for mobile devices.

Motorola reported their earnings yesterday for Q4 2008, which saw sales in mobile devices slip due to "gaps in their portfolio". The Moto Q line of smartphones didn't see any major releases and the company seems poised to phase out Windows Mobile and the Moto Q.
