BOINCstats: Replacing database server and maintenance on the webserver.

2009-07-02: Friday July the 3th I will replace the database server with the new server. This will not cause any downtime.

However, two of the harddrives from the webserver need to be replaced because they indicate that they will fail soon. For this I have to shut down the webserver. I don't know exactly for how long, it all depends on how quickly the RAID controller can rebuild the array.

Maintenance will start around 9:00GMT.

2009-07-01: I'm going to be gone for a week (until the 10th) so if anything goes wrong with the server it won't be fixed until then. I've started investigating new algorithms and approaches and I think I've decided on one but it's going to take me awhile longer to implement it so please hold tight! Thanks guys!

2009-07-01: We have released a version of AP26 application for 64bit Solaris (on AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPUs, platform name x86_64-pc-solaris). This is our first application for this platform, which also makes AP26 an application that runs on the most platforms. Thanks to Gerrit Slomma for building the app!	Psst... the PS3 version is coming ;)

BOINCstats: Database server fundraiser

2009-06-19: Dear visitor and user of BOINCstats. It's that time again where I ask for your (financial) help :).

BOINCstats has grown over the years, many things have changed, we added a separate webserver, we joined forces with Primegrid, last year we upgraded our hosting to our own rack, and we created many many stats. But one thing never changed. One proud server was always there. It was the BOINCstats webserver, then it also hosted Primegrid, and after adding the server for Primegrid and the BOINCstats webserver it became the backbone of the stats: it runs all the updates and prepares the stats for the webserver.

But all good things come to an end sometime. Lately the database server has been struggling, it became unstable. It's also getting slow because users and hosts keep increasing, but the server can no longer be upgraded.

So, it's time to replace it....

The parts for the server have been ordered, but you can understand that it's not a €250 budget computer. So I'll say it quickly so it won't seem that much: we need €2000.

If you like BOINCstats, BAM!, the forum, the user profiles or if you just like your daily portion of stats, then please consider donating a small amount. You can do so on the donation page.

Thank you very much for your support!

Willy.

2009-06-15: Due to the unexpected application version limit problem on the 3rd, some linux hosts received trajtou workunits. Most of them run fine, some of them crash. The trajtou application for linux was retracted from the database last week, but some hosts keep on crunching, eventhough here in the databse no linux applications for trajtou exists anymore?! An application version update was forced to clear up the issue. Any linux hosts running trajtou, if you want you can cancel the workunits. Sorry about that...

On April 12th, Odd Magnar Strindmo of Norway discovered the 47th known Mersenne prime, 2^42,643,801-1. It is the second largest known prime at 12,837,064 digits, only 141,125 digits smaller than the Mersenne prime found last August. The prime was independently verified June 12th.For more information, please visit the GIMPS site. Again, congratulations!!!

2009-06-12: I just sent out a work unit that has a file that is about 3Meg and will then upload a 3meg file, approximately. The main purpose of this workunit (and why there is just one) is to make sure these larger workunits can be processed under whatever constraints the hosts might pose. However, for the resolution I'd like to have, I need larger data files. So, once these come back, work will resume again at the pace it has been.

2009-06-11: Travis here. I'm going to be camping until Sunday so don't break anything while I'm gone. Hopefully Matt and John will keep the server running and filled with work for you guys :) I'm still having a few problems with the CUDA application for regular milkyway, so it'll probably be out Monday or Tuesday after I get back.

2009-06-11: I noticed a problem in the binaries and code I put on the code download page. I removed them to do some fixes, but they should be available tonight or at the latest tomorrow morning.

2009-06-11: Since it looks like the server is handling things fine (no work shortages), I've put out the CUDA code for milkyway@home. If this works and the server holds up we won't need milkywayGPU@home. The code can be downloaded in the usual code release directory. I've also added two CUDA binaries for intel versions of OS X, single and double precision if anyone would like to test them out. They're also in the code release directory. If anyone would like to test the code for linux and windows that would be appreciated. I've started a new forum thread about this here.

2009-06-11: Matts searches had the wrong sized integral so they were crunching much faster than expected. We've stopped these so there shouldn't be any new short workunits.

A 9 day Challenge is being offered on the Prime Sierpinski Problem (LLR) application. Long Challenge, long WU's, but the rewards are greater...250 Challenge points goes to the winner and should a prime be found, it will be a Mega Prime. For more information, please see this forum post.
