Crownsville man, 52, dies after swim in Severn

A 52-year-old Crownsville man died after he called for help while swimming in the Severn River on Friday, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police. Gregory Lon Jackson had gone canoeing with Anthony Michael Roney, 23, of Crownsville in the Severn River near Round Bay. When Jackson asked for help for swimming around 9:45 p.m., Roney kept Jackson afloat with a life jacket, said Sgt. Art Windemuth, spokesman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police. Jackson's brother, Walter Jackson, heard Roney's cries for help and pulled his brother out of the water. He began CPR, but Jackson could not be revived.

Police investigate death of woman, 83, found in freezer

Anne Arundel County police are investigating the death of an 83-year-old woman whose body they found Friday evening in a home freezer in Glen Burnie. Doris Lea Cooke had several medical conditions and had been bedridden for years, family members and witnesses told detectives. When she died several weeks ago, relatives allegedly placed her body in a freezer in the 7400 block of Furnace Branch Road. An autopsy will determine the cause of Cooke's death.

The Pasadena Theatre Company will hold auditions for the fall musical production of Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up , based on a novel by John R. Powers.
