After some delay, Fedoa 11 was finaly released on June 11, 2009. The much awaited release feature several new features and improvements including better handling of multimedia files using PackageKit for codecs, fonts and mime types, faster boot (target is 20 seconds), faster software updates using Presto and a faster filesystem using Ext 4.

Auza.Net joined Dolan, Pediatrica Inc., Pharma Link Sales, Pasonangka and Normita Romero-Beeching in sponsoring a very successful Operation Tuli organized by the DWCHS Batch ‘93 in coordination with LGU Maribojoc on May 10, 2009 at the Maribojoc Cultural Center. Aside from the free circumcisions, there were also free dental extractions and free eye examinations.

DWC HS Batch ‘93 President Dr. Elva Evasco-Auza, in an interview after the activity, said that 135 boys aged between 7 to 12 were circumcised on that day. LGU-Maribojoc Mayor Jun Evasco thanked the batch for making Maribojoc a venue of their community service activity. The LGU provided additional manpower from its health centers and general services office. Nursing students from Holy Name University and University of Bohol also participated and assisted the doctors in performing the circumcisions.

Batch ‘93 officers presented certificates of appreciation to the various individuals who contributed their time and skills to make the activity successful. The doctors and professionals who kindly provided their services for free are as follows: Dr. Faye Candice Sun, DPSP; Dr. Luci Diane Ejercito, Dr. Lynette Rodriguez, Mr. Hector Rodriguez, Dr. Jerome Rosal, Dr. Rey Belderol, Dr. Shary May Manuta-Baton, Dr. Reynald Rances and Dr. Elva Evasco-Auza.

Close to 50 students applied for the Auza.Net Summer 2009 OJT program scheduled to start on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.  About 20 students have been interviewed with 15 more scheduled for interview on March 30.  Only 10 to 15 students will be selected for the comprehensive and unique program where the trainees will learn practical skills in information technology, technical sales and marketing and technical support.

Applicants came from different schools in Tagbilaran City like CVSCAFT, UB, HNU, Crispa and Informatics.  Some applicants came from Tubigon and other towns in Bohol while one applicant came from Samar.  This year’s OJT program will include projects like Metro WiFi deployment, VOIP, Call Center setup, Linux and open source technologies, multimedia and online publishing.

Past OJT programs have yielded valuable results that are already used commercially by Auza.Net.  Perhaps the best example and most widely known is the worldwide broadcast of DYRD-AM (www.dyrdam.com) which was a product of the OJT program in 2007.  Other results include the various information websites of Auza.Net and the deployment of the first wireless mesh network in Tagbilaran which is currently used by Auza.Net for its reliable Internet service serving call centers.

Auza.Net is Now Accepting Applications for OJT for this Summer 2009. The projects for the Summer OJT Program will include topics like VOIP enabled systems, Linux Virtualization, VPN implementations, Collaborative Website Implementation and advanced media streaming.

OJT Program will start on April 1, 2009 and will end in June 6, 2009.

Interested applicants should submit their resume and application letter stating the topic of interest. Engineering and related courses are preferred for the technical projects while Fine Arts, Marketing and Mass Communications students will also be accepted for the Collaborative Website Implementation and other marketing programs of Auza.Net.

Auza.Net opens its Internet Media Center at RM 1 K of C Building, K of C drive, in downtown Tagbilaran City on October 10, 2008 with a blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony at 5PM.  Full operation will commence on Oct 11, 2008 and office hours are from 9AM to 5PM, Monday to Saturday.

The center will showcase the various products and services of Auza.Net and it will also feature a WiFi Zone powered by rSPOT technology and very soon a new Internet-only radio service available for block time subscriptions.

Free online services may be availed at the center for Bohol Classified Ads, Bohol Biz, and Bohol News Daily.  Training in various IT and computer topics are available for small groups and may be arranged off-site for large groups.

On October 15, 2008, Auza.Net will start accepting applications for free accounts on Bohol.Asia.  More details will be published at a later time.

A group of senior managers from Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) composed of Engr. Joseph Caballes, Engr. Ronnie Legaspi, Engr. Henry Mejor, Engr. Jose Singson, Jr., and Engr. Rommel Yu visited Tagbilaran city on August 14 and 15 to evaluate the city’s first wireless mesh network operated by Auza.Net for possible use in Cebu City to enable MCWD to link up all its wells, reservoir, pressure measurement points and other applications into a single IP based wireless network. Once implemented, the network will enable real time monitoring and control as well as make data collection very efficient removing the error prone manual reading and paper based data collection methods.

The group was accompanied by Juner Yaneza, of Raynetworks, Inc. (SkyPilot Philippine Partner), Gregg Tecson of Telepoint and Junrey Obe�ita of Auza.Net. The group evaluated the network performance at various nodes, including the longest link of 9 kilometers at Bolod, Panglao.

Tagbilaran has the largest wireless mesh network in the Visayas using the SyncMesh technology and equipment from SkyPilot Networks, Inc (www.skypilot.com). Deployment is very flexible and it is possible to have a private network between two or more offices that is secure and reliable at a very reasonable monthly cost. Using VLAN technology, the private network nodes act as a LAN switch allowing users to link up computers and applications between nodes seamlessly yet securely.

Masigasig Magazine, a supplementary publication to the Enterprenuer Magazine by Summit Media featured Tagbilaran City and Auza.Net in its July 2008 issue. Masigasig described the city as a gateway to Bohol and narrated on various reasons why it is a potential location for investement in IT enabled businesses. One of the reasons stated is the presence of SMITEs or Small and Medium IT Enterprises in Bohol already doing IT enabled services. Auza.Net was featured as one of these SMITEs and the DYRD-AM worldwide broadcast website www.dyrdam.com was given as an example of the company’s successful ventures.

Auza.Net published its maiden issue of the Auza.Net Technology Updates publication printed in the Bohol Chronicle on July 13, 2008.  This one page publication showcases Internet based technologies that are relevant to Bohol and to Boholanos and is published in the Sunday edition of the community newspaper.  The company aims to help businesses utilize new technologies to improve business operations, the academic community to leverage free and open technologies as primary and supplementary educational tools and the home users to get the most out of computers.
