It's well past time to head out and buy some fireworks. You can head pretty much any direction out of KCMO and hit a fireworks stand. If you head North or South, the Red X has you covered. They have a store in Riverside and one just South of the Grandview Triangle on 71. To the West, there are tents and more permanent structures in Wyandotte County. To the East, you have to go pretty far before you hit one of the I-70 roadside, year round establishments.

Wherever you go, please remember to leave the parking lot before you start lighting off your bounty. I've seen some close calls in the past!

If you're interested in seeing a more professional show, I have a list of some of the Fireworks Shows in the metro area.

For the most part, that means that we get to listen to the neighborhood kids lighting off fireworks all month. There's no better way to celebrate our Independence from King George's thugs than with a reenactment between the neighborhood rebels and the uniformed officers.

If civil disobedience is not your fancy, there are numerous Fireworks Shows around town this weekend. A few have been canceled due to budget shortcomings, but there are many still going strong. I guess the Corporate Woods show and surrounding activities have been getting bigger and better each year, so perhaps this is the year to check that one out.

Also this month is the KC Fringe Festival. It's always full of entertaining folks and their activities.

Enjoy the coolish spell we're having. I have a feeling it won't last long and we'll be in the 100's before July is over.

First, it looks like after one head-fake, Dunkin' Donuts is trying again to come to the metro area. You grease fans may soon no longer have to trek to Lawrence or St. Joe.

Then, some folks are apparently hatching a scheme to deliver Trader Joe's goods to buyers in the KC area. I can't imagine a quicker way to go broke. I also have to wonder what Trader Joe's may have to say about that.

Several more red light cameras are due to go into service throughout the summer.

Starting today and running all weekend is the 2nd annual Art Annual at the Power and Light District. In addition to art, it features live music and a few food and drink specials by some of the nearby merchants.

Tomorrow, there is the Art of the Car Concours car show at the Kansas City Art Institute. They have a pretty impressive line-up of classic cars and motorcycles, enough that they claim that it's the largest vintage car show in Kansas City.

Sunday is the Urban Farms and Garden Tour which sounds really interesting. There's also the Duck Derby, which is a fundraiser for Children's TLC, a great cause.

Some of them are reasonable, but most don't seem to fit in with KC Beer Blog's criteria for a certified happy hour. The only one that looks pretty good to me is the 2-fer-$2 tacos on Tuesday. I'm just baffled that $7 burgers on Sunday counts as a special. Perhaps their view of how much a burger costs has been inflated by being located directly across from Blanco's Burgers and Bottles, featuring burgers for over $10.

It features a bunch of locally owned restaurants and locally owned places to shop. The photos in it are fantastic, and I have learned of a few new spots to try, and was reminded of a few that I haven't visited recently enough. I expect I'll leave it in my car so that I can more easily deal with those emergency times when we can't think of any place to eat. You can grab it at Barnes and Noble, but I suspect that Rainy Day has it, too.
