Manoo and Francois A, which had their debut on Buzzin back in ‘04 are a well hidden well shined French weapon of mass destruction. Great bodies on the tunes in this EP and some amazing developments. Full of elements from Deep silky house of soul and techno licks of percussions.
I would definitely see this one coming up in a crowd that needs to build up some energies and loves. definitely a keeper for me.

The former world record of the Longest DJ Set was 116 hours of mix and was set back in 2006 by DJ Gee Papa. Now this record is obsolete since DJ Alan D has broken it and now holds the new record for the longest DJ set of 124 Hours at the Zicos Bar in Lanarkshire in Scotland!
Alan has told Mixmag a wet T-shirt contest that took place in the club helped him stay awake, alongside their phone call.
Record Breaking rules stipulated he could take five minute breaks every hour, which Alan saved up into half hour naps.

Moby has sent a reply to the (almost) $2 million judgment against Jammie Thomas-Rasset of Minnesota for sharing 24 songs yesterday, calling for the RIAA to be disbanded.
argh. what utter nonsense. this is how the record companies want to protect themselves? suing suburban moms for listening to music? charging $80,000 per song?
punishing people for listening to music is exactly the wrong way to protect the music business. maybe the record companies have adopted the ‘it’s better to be feared than respected’ approach to dealing with music fans. i don’t know, but ‘it’s better to be feared than respected’ doesn’t seem like such a sustainable business model when it comes to consumer choice. how about a new model of ‘it’s better to be loved for helping artists make good records and giving consumers great records at reasonable prices’?
i’m so sorry that any music fan anywhere is ever made to feel bad for making the effort to listen to music.
the riaa needs to be disbanded.
Moby as an artists knows what it feels like to not get payed for work you’ve done and published (sometimes having it stolen from your computer or having bootlegs released before the date) and yet he knows there is another option.

The famous Go Bananaz blog which used to offer pirated mp3s for djs and releases illegaly spreaded, alongside with proper and legal promotions for djs – has shut its doors ealier this Month. The owner and maintainer has departed his blog with some decent fair well words and thoughts about the illegal music blogs and their relationships with the labels.
I could also bring up the debate whether to blog or not to blog, and what the record labels and huge artists think about it. Here’s my true point of view: When a producer is new in the scene, he is doing everything he can to be published at blogs and such (I’ve been getting LOADS, and LOADS of emails by talents wanting me to publish them), but as soon as you’re coming up in to the B- or A-class of producers, everything about blogs seems to purely suck and you start hating the blogs for publishing your tracks. I believe that blogs are a great way to promote stuff, whether your a big or small producer (or label) – although you have probably noticed that the big labels have been doing their job quite well by disabling most of my links here at the blog, so here’s my response: Come on, if you don’t want me to give you free promotion, then please write me an email and we’ll sort it out – I don’t bite.
the letter is quite long and definitely worth reading since it reveals a lot of the aspects of running a blog/magazine for electronic music and Djing, for better or worse, we at thcdj, promise to keep up with you guys. (for the meanwhile at least <3)

Detroit, MI – Movement 09, Detroit’s premier techno music festival, is preparing to make sweet music on the river Memorial Day weekend, May 23 – 25, 2009, at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. On Sunday, May 24 the Detroit born techno group Octave One of 430 West record label, will be heating up the “Made in Detroit” stage and moving Movement goers’ feet along with a cast of other dance music giants. This talented group of musicians will appear in the session “430 West & Friends Presents: Techno City.”
Octave One will bang the stage along with live performances from special invited guest Anthony Rother of
Germany, who has been burning up the electro scene since the mid 90s in Europe; music producer Marc “MK” Kinchen, who is responsible for creating classic remixes for giants in the music industry such as Celine Dion and her single “Mislead.” Kinchen is performing with his brother, Scotty Deep; Detroiter, Will Web, will
move the crowd with deep electro and techno cuts; Jay Denham, of Kalamazoo, will dazzle the audience and set the pace with his unparalleled spinning style; and Detroiter, Monty Luke, will set the dancers in motion.
Making the set 430 West & Friends Presents: Techno City possible are the organizers of Movement 09,
Paxahau, who were initially approached with the idea of doing an Electro stage celebrating 15 years of music from 430 West’s legendary sub label Direct Beat, however, after much consideration the decision was made to use the 430 West imprint instead. “We didn’t feel we had enough artists that could perform live from Direct Beat to go with a 15 year anniversary theme the way we would like to have it showcased. So we’re using Octave One, our group from 430 West and working with monumental artists who have either never performed in the US, Detroit or frequently at the festival,” stated Lawrence Burden, co-owner and founder of 430 West. “We feel this will be an awesome show for true house heads, electro beat freaks and techno fans who come to the music festival every year.” Married together for the first time, 430 West and Paxahau come together, now that’s major!

Scratch Live version 1.9.0:
This is a new cutting edge version of Scratch Live that introduces many new features including the SP-6 Sample Player, LiveFeed, Loop Roll, enhanced History, native Pioneer MEP-7000 support, Show Album Art on Deck, Key tag support, and many other bug-fixes and improvements.

Rane SL 3 Support
Scratch Live 1.9.0 supports the new Rane SL 3 hardware. More information on the Rane SL 3 can be found here: www.serato.com
SP-6 Sample Player
The new SP-6 Sample Player adds six extra audio players that can be triggered with the computer keyboard or a MIDI controller, turning compatible Rane hardware into a high performance sample player.
- The SP-6 can be set to output audio through either the Left or Right deck channel, or through both (Mix), using the L, M or R buttons at the right of the sample player panel. On the Rane SL 3 the Aux channel can also be selected.
- There are four trigger modes:
Trigger - The sample is played each time you press the trigger on the sample.
Hold - The sample only plays while you hold down the trigger on the sample.
Single - The sample plays when you press the trigger on the sample, and stops when you press the trigger again.
Repeat - The sample will continue repeating when it reaches the end of the sample. This can be activated for each of the three above modes.
Keyboard Shortcuts:
Z, X, C, V, B, N – Trigger sample 1 – 6.
Alt/Option – Z, X, C, V, B, N – Stop sample 1 – 6
- The Sample Player uses the first saved loop (in loop slot 1) for the sample if the track has a saved loop set. If the track does not have a saved loop, the sample will play from Cue Point 1 to the end of the file. If Cue Point 1 is not set the entire file will be played. If the “Repeat” button is on the sample will loop continuously while it being played.
Live Feed
Brand new in Scratch Live 1.9 is a groundbreaking feature called LiveFeed, taking live external audio and placing it directly on a Scratch Live virtual deck, all in real time.
- When you have your Rane hardware connected you will have new searchable LiveFeed tracks in your library. These are called “Livefeed – Rane SL 1″, “Livefeed – Rane TTM 57SL…” etc. If you load a LiveFeed track to the virtual deck, that audio stream will be streamed straight to the virtual deck. This lets you do some cool tricks with the a live microphone or instrument input, or even play the output of an ipod straight onto a virtual deck.
- There are also gated versions of these tracks in your library that only stream when the audio goes over the gate threshold.
- Needle dropping while using LiveFeed will bring the playhead to the “now” time.
Loop Roll
Loop Roll is a new looping feature that lets you activate a loop on any track with a valid BPM (just like autoloop), but when you release the Loop Roll button the playhead jumps to the position where it would have been if you hadn’t looped. That means you can get crazy with loops, stuttering or glitch effects but the track stays in time.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Use Alt + Ctrl + 1 through 0 to trigger with the keyboard.
- You can MIDI assign individual Loop Roll lengths by ‘Ctrl + Alt + Click’ on the autoloop buttons when in MIDI assign mode.
- You can assign a MIDI knob to select an autoloop / loop roll length. You can assign a single MIDI button to loop roll or autoloop with the selected length. The MIDI select knob is assignable on the MIDI panel at the bottom of the screen when in MIDI assign mode (next to the autoloop and loop roll buttons).
You can also assign these controls to the TTM 57SL control surface.
- The autoloop and loop roll lengths now go down to 1/16th and 1/32 beat loops.
History
The History function now keeps a comprehensive record of every track played, during every gig. This replaces the old “Review” feature and is a real time saver for professional DJs who need to log their sessions.
- To view your session history, press the ‘history’ button between the ‘browse’ and ‘prepare’ buttons.
- Tracks are only visible in history if they have been ‘played’. You can view ‘unplayed tracks’ by turning on the ’show unplayed tracks’ checkbox in the history panel. You can select a track and ‘mark played’ or ‘mark unplayed’.
- You can double click fields in better review to edit them. Double click the session name (it is set to the date of the session by default) to give each session a name.
- You can export sessions from you history to ‘txt’, ‘csv’, or ‘m3u’. To export, select a session in the history panel, choose an export format and press export. The status bar will indicate where the file has been exported to (”History Export” in your ScratchLIVE folder).
- Recently played tracks are marked green in the history panel and your library, this can be reset by pressing the ‘clear’ button at the bottom right of the history panel.
Custom Crate Columns
There is a new ‘custom crate columns’ option on the library tab of the setup screen. This option will be off by default. When this option is on, crate columns behave as they do in versions before 1.9. When the option is off (default), all crates and playlists share the same column view.
Pioneer MEP-7000 Support
The Pioneer MEP-7000 gains plug-and-play native support, joining the popular Pioneer CDJ-400 as a Scratch Live control surface. Control CDs are not required, and song data is shown directly on the MEP-7000’s displays. Simply plug and play and Scratch Live will detect the MEP-7000.

iTunes Library Changes
- The iTunes library is now collapsible in the crate selector window. Click on the triangle icon next to the iTunes library playlist to expand and collapse the iTunes Library.
- When you uncheck ‘read iTunes library’ all tracks marked with the iTunes icon are removed from your library unless the track is in a Scratch Live crate.
- Tracks that are in the iTunes library are now not marked with the iTunes icon if they are already in the Scratch Live library, but they will still show up in the iTunes playlists as normal. These tracks also are not removed from the Scratch Live library when you untick ‘read iTunes library’.
- You can also drag tracks from an iTunes playlist or the iTunes library onto the “All…” crate to mark it as permanent in the Scratch Live library. You can also conversely drag a track from an iTunes playlist or the iTunes library onto the ‘iTunes Library’ playlist to mark it as an iTunes track.
Files Panel
- Renamed the ‘import’ panel to ‘files’.
- Moved the ‘rescan ID3 tags’ and ‘relocate lost files’ buttons to the ‘files’ panel – You can now drag a folder from the ‘files’ panel onto ‘relocate lost files’ to search through that folder.
- You can now drop individual tracks onto the ‘rescan id3 tags’ button to scan only those tracks.
- You can now cancel ‘rescan ID3 tags’ by turning off the button while it is scanning.
TTM 57SL firmware update
- This version of Scratch LIVE contains an update the TTM 57SL Firmware v3.11 which features:
* soft (clickless) FlexFx routing
* the ability for the AUX input to be muted in the mix when using the new “Live Feed” feature
Show album art on deck
There is a new option on the display tab on the setup screen called ’show album art on deck’. Turn this option on to display the album art for each track next to the ‘track info’ display near the top of the screen.
Key Tag support
Key tags are now read from MP3 files and displayed in the ‘key’ column in the library. You can turn on and off the key column with the column chooser menu in the library.
Controllers
- The fine pitch adjust sliders are now available for MIDI assignment when in MIDI assign mode.
- The Denon HC-4500 now uses the “range / pitch/key” button to be able to toggle between a +/-8% and +/-16% pitch range.
- Pressing the ‘back’ button on the Denon HC-4500 while in the crate window will now expand/collapse crates.
- Fixed the autoloop controls from not working on the Numark DMC2.
- Fixed the Numark DMC2’s +/- pitch display symbols from being reversed.
Miscellaneous Changes and Bug Fixes:
- The ‘build overviews’ button is now ‘analyze files’. For some time now this button has done more than just “build overviews”, so we’ve changed the name to make its function clearer.
- You can now open the ‘column chooser’ menu by right clicking on a column in the track list.
- Dragging tracks out of Scratch Live onto MacOS X Finder now copies the files instead of moving them.
- Track gains that are excessively loud are now ignored (for example, track gains that have been incorrectly set by iTunes).
- Video track associations are now stored in the tags of the audio track so the association will persist through a track database rebuild.
- Fixed a problem with some Quicktime files (MP4 video files for example) where cue points in the XML metadata could be overridden by empty cue points in metadata stored in the file itself. The XML metadata will always take precedence over internal metadata.
- Files, Browse, History and Prepare restore their panel sizes when coming from a fixed sized panel such as the sample player or hardware panel.
- The pitch bend controls have been moved to below the internal mode pitch slider (- and + buttons). Ctrl + Click on the Pitch Bend buttons also performs a pitch nudge (ie. the pitch bends and then stays). This is also MIDI assignable (Ctrl + Click when MIDI assigning).
- There is a new global ‘autoplay’ option (at the top of the screen). This replaces the old individual ‘auto’ mode buttons on each deck.
- Fixed AAC / video files from rebuilding overviews constantly.
- Fixed flickering of popup menus on windows (eg. the column chooser menu).
- Changed the way auto-bpm works to not overwrite an existing BPM value if the calculated value is not close to the existing tag, or a multiple of the existing tag.
- Changed overview behavior so that they are always rebuilt from scratch if they are being built on the deck. This is to ensure that correct auto-bpm and auto-gain values are calculated.
- Fixed bug where sometimes on startup parts of the ‘whitelabel locked files’ message box would be in the top left corner of the screen if you have locked whitelabel files.
- Added a warning when editing multiple tracks’ color tags.
- Changed ‘auto bpm’ to be on by default.
- Slightly changed the layout of the virtual decks. The pitch and pitched BPM are now larger and more readable.
- Fixed bug where if you had a “.ScratchLIVE” folder the message “Backing up your Scratch LIVE folder…” would appear in the status bar when manipulating crates.
- Changed file analyzer so that the button turns off and the progress bars disappear after 3 seconds.
- Fixed bug where the file analyzer count wouldn’t reset after analyzing all files.
- Fixed the MIDI assign controls from flickering or having parts of the MIDI assign rectangles overdrawn when in MIDI assign mode.
- Fixed bug where certain unicode ID3 comment tags could not be read correctly.
- Fixed bug where if you tried to set the color of a track at the bottom of the track list window, the color chooser menu would fall off the bottom of the screen.
- Fixed bug where the gray borders surrounding the loop buttons were often redrawn on top of the track list window when disconnecting hardware.
- Fixed the ‘resize window’ icon (mac only, bottom right corner) so that its background is always the correct colour.
- Fixed bug on French keyboards where you couldn’t use autoloop with the control+option+6 keyboard shortcut.
- Fixed a crash on exit that could occur with the offline player.
- Fix for crash on exit if you have an empty crate file on one drive and the same crate file on another drive.
- Fixed a crash or instability that could occur when using a CD player in absolute mode.
- Fixed OGG files with an incorrect length from causing an application lock-up or playing garbage when analyzed or played in Scratch Live.
- Scratch Live now detects and fixes a certain type of corruption in the library database which led to symptoms such as new files not being properly added (re-scanning tags on startup every time), tracks constantly needing overviews rebuilt, and crashes.
Known issues:
- The Pioneer MEP-7000 needs to be connected to your computer before running Scratch Live for correct operation.
Running more than one version of Scratch LIVE:
Installing this version will by default overwrite any previous version you had installed, however it is easy to have more than one version of Scratch LIVE installed if you wish.
If you have an important gig coming up, you might like to stick with the version you know until you are comfortable with 1.9.0.
Here’s how to do it:
Windows Users - before installing, find the ScratchLIVE executable (by default it is in C:\Program files\Serato\ScratchLIVE, and rename it – for example call it ScratchLIVE 1.8.3.exe. When you install the new version, the old executable will not be deleted, and you can choose which you want to run by going into that folder and double clicking on the executable. You can still do this if you have already installed version 1.9.0 – just rename the executable to ScratchLIVE 1.9.0.exe, and then reinstall the version you were previously running.
Mac users - before installing, rename the existing application file as above (like “Scratch LIVE 1.8.3″) – you have to be admin to rename it. (If you aren’t admin, you can copy it to another location, and then rename it.)
Backing up your data:
Before you make any changes to your Scratch LIVE setup, including installing a new version, as a general rule we highly recommend that you backup your data and your music files. The easiest way to backup your data is to simply copy your Scratch LIVE folder to another location on the drive:
- For the drive that contains “My Documents” (or your Home drive on Mac), just copy the ScratchLIVE folder which is in “My Documents\My Music\” to another location on this drive. Alternatively make a copy of the folder where it already is and rename it by adding the date to the folder name so you know what’s in the backup.
- To back up the database and crates from an external drive, copy the _ScratchLIVE_ folder (which is in the root of the drive) into another folder on the same drive.

Diary of a DJ at WMC ‘09
Sunday March 22nd:
After a 10 hour flight from Switzerland, I landed in Miami, checked into the New Clinton Hotel on Washington Avenue, hauled a cab and headed directly to Nikki Beach where I was playing that night at the Nikki Music Event alongside EDX, Armand Pena and Denis The Menace.
It was pretty full for a Sunday considering the Winter Music Conference didn’t even begin.
Nikki is always a guarantied great party.
Monday March 23rd:
After checking out South Beach a little bit and doing the usual shopping and eating some delicious meals at FOX CAFE and PELICAN (my favorites when it comes to Eat and Meet), I was called to play at The Setai Hotel at a very exclusive private event, it was very cool, low key, with a crowd of about 100 people. The view from the suite at the 40th floor was quite amazing and I hope I didn’t wake up the neighbors
Tuesday March 24th:
Picked up my WMC Badges at the South Beach Resort & Spa and checked out the conference stands. There were numerous stands from all over the world presenting their new equipment.
Since the WMC had already begun you could spot big name artists out and about on the streets of Miami.
That night I headed over to the 10 Years Defected Party at SET. DJ Spen rocked the crowd at the sold out (at 11pm!!!!) venue. After listening to Simon Dunmore for like 30 minutes I hit up Club Dream where Circus Montreal (my Canadian home base and residency) had its night. Saw many friends like Franco Fabi and the Cube Guys. It was definitely a nice clubbing experience as well.
Wednesday March 25th:
Welcome to Miami at Nikki Beach was definitely the event to be at on Wednesday in SoBe. Everybody was there; EDX, Tom Novy, Tatana, Kurd Maverick, Audiofly, Nic Fianculli, and many more.
Great vibe, extremely crowded but better than no crowd at all, right?
Nikki Beach was also a very good place to do business, meet a lot of people and exchange business cards…you know, the DJ’s hustle.
Looking forward to next year.

The 24th annual IDMA’s were held at the South Beach Resort and Spa and came as somewhat of a surprise to me. They had major technical difficulties and the whole ceremony wasn’t as professional as I thought it would be. But anyways, we got live performances from Don Diablo, Jes, LMFAO, and DJ Rap. As well as appearances by Carl Cox, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Above & Beyond, ATB, Deadmau5, Morgan Page and many more.
To mention all the winners would be too much and I’m pretty sure you can get the list of winners online but I can say that Tiesto won 4 awards.

Friday March 27th:
Picked up my convertible from the airport so I could be mobile for the rest of the week then it was off to Day 1 of Ultra Music Festival 2009!
What can I say? There was just too much talent for one day.
Swedish House Mafia (rocked the crowd all three of them together).
David Guetta (Presented his new single with Kelly Rowland at the mainstage and showed some love).
Deadmau5 (played a 7 minute set due to technical difficulties 
)
Dirty South (My man for WMC 2009. He absolutely destroyed the tent with his tracks. Really really surprised me).
Black Eyed Peas (Quite a disappointment, I just didn’t like them live).
The Ting Tings (Funny appearance, liked it).
Richie Hawtin (Warmed up for Carl Cox. Amaaazing set).
Luciano/Locodice. NICE!
Carl Cox (Just ripped the tent apart! AMAZING! Haven’t heard him play that hard in ages. That was real Techno music!!)
Tiesto (He is a God over in the States. As he entered the mainstage at 10 p.m the crowd went entirely nuts. He closed the party the way it sould be. Still my favorite DJ ever).
All in all, UMF was not a new experience for me but to see 30 000 – 50 000 people partying together, while some were dressed in old school rave gear brought back some great memories from when I was just entering the scene back in 1996. Great rave feeling.

Went back to South Beach to shower and eat something then it was off to the afterparty.
1:00 a.m:

The vibe at Space was incredible. It’s really one of my favorite spots in Downtown Miami. We were there until sunrise.

11:00 a.m:
- Armin Van Buuren Q&A @ Miami Beach Resort & Spa. Armin answered all of our questions.
- Relaxed at the beach and got some color.
Later that night I was off to 4 Miami hot spots.

I didn’t go to the second day of Ultra because I had already seen everything I wanted to and the traffic to Downtown Bicentennial Park was just crazy. The American Airlines arena is just 100 meters from the park and there was an Orlando Magic vs. Miami Heat basketball game going on so the parking lots were full. Chaos!

MY DAY OFF
Time to relax
Shopping, swimming in the pool and the ocean, partying at our pool party at the Clinton Hotel, and meeting new people…after all that’s what WMC is all about.
Monday March 30th:
Drove out to Key West & Key Biscayne.
Visited the Tennis Court and the Miami Seaquarium.
Tuesday March 31st:
Took a Fan Boat tour of the Everglades and visited some gators at the Gator Park.
Wednesday April 1st:
Shopping, shopping, and some more shopping then headed out to the airport at 6:00 p.m.
Back to Switzerland since I had to be home on time for my CD release on April 3rd and prepare for the Privacy Release tour.
To conclude my trip to Miami I would have to say that WMC 2009 was just great.
I met some big names like Morillo and many others, exchanged business cards, music, and the likes.
The city is hot and alive. From Thursday to Sunday everything and everywhere was so fucking crowded. People from all over the world came to support their artists and the MUSIC!
Everyone should experience this at least once in their life.
I’m looking forward to 2010 where I already have confirmed gigs at some big venues and will be doing my own pool parties.

Fatboy Slim
After a month in a UK rehabilitation facility, Fatboy Slim – aka Norman Cook – has checked out and returned to his home in Essex. Cook had been at the Providence Project clinic in Bournemouth, England, since March 2nd, having entered the facility for treatment after battling alcoholism.
Australian music fans bore the brunt of Cook’s alcoholism first hand when he toured the country as part of the Good Vibrations festival in February. The reaction to his somewhat shambolic sets varied, and when the story broke of his admission to rehab last month it quickly became our most read item.
To stay on track with his rehabilitation Norman has pulled out of his headline spot at this weekend’s Snowbombing festival in Austria, and has also announced he won’t be taking any DJ gigs until after June, hopefully giving him enough time to fully recuperate.

PROPAGANDA – THE TIME COMETH…
4 years is a long time to have to wait for an album from your favourite artist, and even more so when you consider just how incredible all of them were. Fans and industry alike have been asking when Marco V would deliver a new album, and until very recently the V Man said nothing.

Back in October, Genius Products announced Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, a rhythm based music game developed by 7 Studios for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will be played using a turntable controller called the “Scratch Deck,” designed by Numark, which promises to “allow players to re-imagine songs on the fly and add their own creativity”. Well the trailer is finally out and you can take a looksie below.
I’m sure this game will be a fun little pastime for anyone who’s ever wanted to feel like a DJ and make three people dance awkwardly (check out the picture), or for anyone who spent countless hours playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band only to come to the conclusion that they are not in fact Slash.
Scratch: The Ultimate DJ is set to be released this spring.

Back in September, DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) and Travis Barker survived a Learjet plane crash in South Carolina. They were hospitalized for weeks and are still being treated for their severe burns due to the crash.
Well this week, AM has filed a lawsuit against the jet manufacturer for a whopping $20 million. I think Bob Barker would agree with me when I say, “The Price Is WRONG!”.
Some of you may be asking how he came up with $20 million, well Goldstein is asking for $10 million for
medical bills and lost earnings and another $10 million for mental and physical pain and suffering.
I had no idea walking out of a plane crash alive wasn’t good enough but I guess the recession is making people go coocoo for cash.

Wacom are the company who is mainly known for their pen-based graphic tablets and touch screens is now making a move on the DJ Controllers market with the Wacom Nextbeat wireless controller. The Nextbeat controller lets the DJ/Music Producer/Performer take his controller away from the base station (STATION!) and keep working away from the DJ stand/Stage; now you can actually stand in the dancefloor and dance with people while you DJ!
I didn’t realise there is a need for a Wireless DJ Controller that combines two digital players, a mixer, effector and sampler but anyway there is one now.
the nextbeat incorporates a variety of touch-based sensors on its control pod, but Wacom were smart enough to also include a number of knobs and buttons for places where tactile feedback is a must.
Wacom plans on releasing the nextbeat DJ system in Europe and Japan in Summer 2009. No word on price or a North American release date, but you can check back for more information over at the nextbeat preview site. It’ll also be on display at the Winter Music Conference from 24-28 March 2009 in Miami Beach, Florida, USA, and Musikmesse from 1-4 April 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany – if you happen to be there.

British DJ Fatboy Slim has entered rehab in a bid to kick alcohol addiction. The DJ, real name Norman Cook, checked himself into a U.K. rehabilitation center on Monday.
The news was confirmed by the 45-year-old manager Garry Blackburn: “It’s all pretty straight forward. He has gone in voluntarily to sort out his drinking problem.”
Cook was rumored to have previously been treated for alcohol dependency in 2002, but vehemently denied reports he had enrolled in rehab.
Cook has talked of his love of booze in the past. During a 2005 interview he said: “Fatboy Slim is my alter ego — he’s confident, a bit of a show-off. It takes me until midnight to psych myself into him.
“Externally, the difference between me and him is a bad Hawaiian shirt and half a bottle of vodka. Sometimes it feels a little undignified but I never seem to get tired of getting drunk.
“I’ve tried going on stage sober and it wasn’t much fun.
“There’s a certain bravado involved in what I do. It takes a lot of alcohol to stop me thinking ‘You’re a 40-year-old man. What are you doing whirling that towel above your head’?”
The south of England clinic specialises in drug and alcohol dependency and describes itself as a pioneer of residential day treatment. A source said: “Norman arrived in a taxi on Monday morning. He was wearing a checked shirt and baggy tracksuit bottoms.”

The fantastic french duo Daft Punk(Bangalter and de Homem-Christo) which always had a robotic groove to it is now, according to the Upcoming Film Scores Blog, signed up to score the next Tron (Tron 2.0) movie by Disney a sequel to a movie about evil computers from 1982 (First movie scored by Wendy Carlos). The movie is scheduled for a 2011 release and will star Olivia Wilde and will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. Daft Punk have already worked on two movies before, Interstella 5555 and their own feature, Electroma, though this will be their first official full-feature movie score.Good luck guys.
