Ofloxacin is a synthetic 4-fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent with bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive organisms. It is indicated for the treatment of the following infections when caused by sensitive organisms:

Lower Respiratory Tract: Acute and chronic infections.

Upper and Lower Urinary Tract: Acute and chronic lower urinary tract infections; acute and chronic upper urinary tract infections (pyelonephritis). Septicaemia.

Skin and soft tissue infections.

Microbiological results indicate that the following pathogens may be regarded as sensitive: Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin resistant staphylococci), Staphylococcus epidermidis, Neisseria species, Escherichia coli, Citrobacter, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Hafnia, Proteus (indole-negative and indole-positive strains), Salmonella, Shigella, Acinetobacter, Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter jejuni, Aeromonas, Plesiomonas, Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Haemophilus influenzae, Chlamydiae, Legionella, Gardenerella.

Variable sensitivity is shown by Streptococci, Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Clostridium species and Mycoplasmas.

Anaerobic bacteria (e.g. Fusobacterium species, Bacteroides species, Eubacterium species, Peptococci, Peptostreptococci) are normally resistant.

Tarivid is not active against Treponema pallidum.<div class="feedflare">

Treatment of symptomatic anaemia associated with chronic renal failure (CRF) in adult and paediatric patients:

- Treatment of anaemia associated with chronic renal failure in paediatric and adult patients on haemodialysis and adult patients on peritoneal dialysis.

- Treatment of severe anaemia of renal origin accompanied by clinical symptoms in adult patients with renal insufficiency not yet undergoing dialysis.

Treatment of anaemia and reduction of transfusion requirements in adult patients receiving chemotherapy for solid tumours, malignant lymphoma or multiple myeloma, and at risk of transfusion as assessed by the patient's general status (e.g. cardiovascular status, preexisting anaemia at the start of chemotherapy).

Binocrit can be used to increase the yield of autologous blood from patients in a predonation programme. Its use in this indication must be balanced against the reported risk of thromboembolic events. Treatment should only be given to patients with moderate anaemia (haemoglobin (Hb) 10 13 g/dl [6.2 8.1 mmol/l], no iron deficiency), if blood saving procedures are not available or insufficient when the scheduled major elective surgery requires a large volume of blood (4 or more units of blood for females or 5 or more units for males).

Binocrit can be used to reduce exposure to allogeneic blood transfusions in adult noniron deficient patients prior to major elective orthopaedic surgery, having a high perceived risk for transfusion complications. Use should be restricted to patients with moderate anaemia (e.g. Hb 10 - 13 g/dl) who do not have an autologous predonation programme available and with an expected blood loss of 900 to 1800 ml.<div class="feedflare">

Atripla is a fixeddose combination of efavirenz, emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. It is indicated for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus1 (HIV1) infection in adults with virologic suppression to HIV1 RNA levels of < 50 copies/ml on their current combination antiretroviral therapy for more than three months. Patients must not have experienced virological failure on any prior antiretroviral therapy and must be known not to have harboured virus strains with mutations conferring significant resistance to any of the three components contained in Atripla prior to initiation of their first antiretroviral treatment regimen.

The demonstration of the benefit of Atripla is primarily based on 48week data from a clinical study in which patients with stable virologic suppression on a combination antiretroviral therapy changed to Atripla. No data are currently available from clinical studies with Atripla in treatmentnaïve or in heavily pretreated patients.

No data are available to support the combination of Atripla and other antiretroviral agents.<div class="feedflare">
