Tabs Come to the Accessible Administrator Template

My project creating an Accessible Administrator Template is coming along. I've restructured part of it. The different submenus lacked clarity so I switched to a tabbed menu and moved them above the toolbar icons. This makes it more obvious what section you are in. As you look at the graphic you will also note that I have pulled out most of the styling, going back to almost a wireframe. Once I get the functionality in place, I will look at adding more styling back in as well as updating the icons/images as appropriate.

GSOC JConnect Status Update 3

It's ready

JConnect - The Integration Engine for Joomla is now pretty much ready. (OK we say it BETA). Before we going into much details lets talk about it's features. It can do following with it's External Applications.. (Currently only Elgg)

Dual-way communication..
whatever the changes you made to a user(Create,Update,Delete) it'll affect to Both Joomla and ExApp. no mater where you made it (inside Joomla or Elgg)

Bulk User Synchronization
you can synchronize users in many numbers between Joomla and ExApp.

Dual Login (Single Sign On)
you can login into one site and go for a another site and do your work without login again. (a site may be Joomla or a ExApp)

Activity Module
you can see the activities in the ExApp inside Joomla in a Module..

Sync User Management
you can manage user sync users inside Joomla

Admin Panel
contains a easy to use admin Panel to control all of these

Advanced Contols
helps you to control the communication between Joomla and ExApps

Get It

Currently JConnect Only support Elgg as an External Application. So you can get,

  JConnect Engine and,

Elgg plugin (makes elgg as an JConnect ExApp)

You can download above from here..
   http://code.google.com/p/jconnect/downloads

And documentation to Install And Configure JConnect with Elgg can be found here....
  code.google.com/p/jconnect/wiki/GettingStarted

Review It

I'll really apriciate comments and you review on this..

Plese comments below this Article or http://code.google.com/p/jconnect/wiki/Comments

If any kind of issue arise please kind enought to submit those in here..
    code.google.com/p/jconnect/issues

What's next

Dual Login does not works for cross domains yet.. I'm working on it..

User group consideration when synchronization (which is not currently supportes)

Developer support (JConnect ExApps can be easily created - but a good Documentation should come up)

Workflow extension [ BETA ]

I'll start by explaining how the extension works , I won't dive into any technical details

This extension allows website administrator to define a workflow "i.e a process" of content publishing, Let's consider a scenario where the administrator runs a magazine with 3 content categories, Each one of these categories is managed by a team.

JED to be 100% GPL at Midnight

We at the Joomla Extensions Directory are celebrating the next phase of our commitment to the GPL values that Joomla was founded on. As part of an overall movement toward embracing and encouraging use of the GPL in all aspects of the project, the JED announced in December 2008 that only GNU GPL extensions would be listed as of July 1. We have led up to this policy change slowly, and we hope with as much information as possible.

Tonight at midnight is the time and day that only GPL extensions will be listed in the JED. We're incredibly encouraged by the show of support and cooperation of our third party developers.

Our developers were given the time of midnight tonight as the target for relicensing their extensions with the GPL. While extensions have been coming to the GPL steadily since our announcement was made in December, a flood of changes are coming in just before that cutoff. We're thrilled at the overwhelming response to our call to bring extensions into GPL compliance. Developers have been working well with editors to clarify wording on their websites to assure users of the JED that the freedoms of the GPL will be upheld.

We can't begin to thank all of the amazing developers who have embraced the open source values along with us. Many previously proprietary and partially closed-source developers of commercial extensions have joined with us in the JED and released their Joomla extensions with the GPL license. We are confident in keeping the vast majority of popular commercial extensions in the JED due to the developers' willingness to work with our team.

We are committed to working with each of our developers to ensure that their projects are treated with respect and protected from exploitation. We're further committed to making sure the users of the JED have the most complete, compliant and vulnerability-free list of extensions for Joomla.

Thank you for making that possible.

Multilingual CiviCRM: Changes to Translation Tools

All of my work on multilingual CiviCRM features, while required by many worldwide, cross-border and/or multi-cultural organisations, would be in vain if it weren’t for the hard and very under-appreciated work of numerous translators, contributing many man-hours to over thirty CiviCRM translations hosted on our translations server – hence one of my Google Summer of Code sub-projects was to ease the translators’ work as much as possible.

Module editing at the frontend

After last week's post, I've now completed editing of module parameters in a modal popup. Edit icons appear next to the module titles which can be clicked to edit the module parameters. I've deliberately disallowed editing of advanced and other parameters from the modal popup at the front-end to avoid complexity. If it is a custom HTML module, then its content can also be edited via the modal popup.

What You Want From Your Desktop Content Manager

Hi everyone,

As I have foretold in my last blog that I am working over a Desktop App which will serve as an interface to J! installation, I would now request you to help me in this context. When I submitted my specs I was asked about the features I would like to add apart from the one which the app intends to do. The best answer to this question can be given only by the end-users. So I think its better to ask the customers i.e. community what they want . Hence I would request you to list all the features which you would like your Desktop Frontend to have as comments to this blog. I will try my best to provide all the desired ones in the forthcoming releases.

Thank You

Rahul Verma

Thanks for joomla.asia

Just a quick 'thank you' to Akarawuth Tamrareang for recently donating the domain joomla.asia to the Joomla project. While we don't plan to at this stage run a separate website, it's nice to know that top level domains like this belong to the Joomla project. Sadly, many people try to misuse domains on the back of the success of the Joomla name.

Akarawuth Tamrareang (aka Krit) has been apart of our community since the beginning, and again, can we just thank him for this gesture. He originally secured the domain when the .asia registration opened.

You can find him on Twitter here: http://twitter.com/joomlacorner and his website is: www.joomlacorner.com (in Thai).

[Demo] J!Mint SSO

This is my first blog for GSoC 2009. It's kinda a bit late compared to other 17 students. :) I had a school event that I needed to attend at the end of May, so I just could started on June 3rd..

First of all, this integration project is really challenging I have to say. Since integration between two systems using cURL is something obvious and has been done by folks already. I'd like to take this J!Mint a step further. Luckily I have some experience with Magento, so that didn't hold me back much. However, to come up with a solution for SSO, it took me quite a while learning and trying out new stuff.

Features :
- Cross-domain SSO, which means that we still have two separated systems running, a Joomla site and a Magento site.
- Once the user logs in the Joomla site. He'll have access to Magento as well. <-- which means if the logged-in user opens another tab and browses the Magento site, he must be still on logged-in status automatically.

- After the user has been logged-in on Joomla site. He can go to the Magento site to shop as usual !

- This SSO solution is not about displaying Magento logged-in content on Joomla site using cURL yet.

Difficulties :
- This cannot be done only using cURL like I thought before in May.

- Needed to make use of iFrames. Cross-domain issue solved.

- Security issues raised when redirecting the login info to the Magento login form.

The Joomla Project needs your help in testing our next release—Joomla 1.5.12 RC. This release has 22 bug fixes and two updates are significant enough to warrant community testing. This includes an upgrade to TinyMCE and changes to the framework PHPMailer class.
