“Salamanders” takes proceedings in an acidiscothequeno direction, and the charmingly-titled “Vinegartits” rounds things off in a turbocharged afrostomp fashion….

On a remix (or indeed, Reslither) mission, rising superstars (and MadeYouLook/Dollop resident djs) MEMEME give “Salamanders” a tough workout that will decimate all dancefloors in it’s wake!

With assistance from production heavyweights Peter Rafelson (Madonna, Britney Spears, Stevie Nicks) and Eric Kupper (Shakira, Destiny’s Child, Kylie Minogue), Pretty Mess showcases Jayne’s talent as both a singer and a songwriter with tracks spanning from rhythmic pop and dance to chill electronic ballads. The album includes a nod to Prince, one of Jayne’s biggest influences, with a cover of his protégé Apollonia’s hit “Sex Shooter” as well as a guest appearance from legendary percussionist Sheila E on the track “Time to Realize.” Pretty Mess also includes stellar guest production from the likes of Esthero (under the name Pinklake), Jahi Lake (Chris Brown) and Ike Dirty (Lil’ Scrappy, Ying Yang Twins).

Jayne is experiencing success prior to album release that is not often seen by debut artists. The current single “Give You Everything,” created with Rafelson, has put her high on the Billboard Dance charts for the third consecutive time, following the album’s first two singles “Rollercoaster” and “Stars.” The track recently scored her “Breakout Artist of the Week” status on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Breakouts chart, pushing her past hit artists Lady Gaga and the Pussycat Dolls to secure the top spot. The song was also a Billboard “Hotshot Debut” for the week.

Sharam Jey is a real all-rounder. Originally from from Cologne, Germany, Sharam Jey is now a DJ, producer and label maker. As a true lover of music, he uses any chance he gets to bring his music closer to clubbers all around the world.

Sharam Jey’s roots are in soul music but he gained stage experience as a singer for a rock band. At the same time his Djing skills became hugely popular on the party scene. What once started out as a part-time gig soon turned into a passion in the early 90s.

It’s time…to put your quarters up and check out the hottest video on the planet: Bobby Evans’ smash hit Delicious Vinyl single “Freak-A-Zoid Robotz”, directed by Marcus Herring. Enter an arcade game world where a Tron state of mind and fly moves preside, where metallic Sorayama-inspired robots do choreographed dances and fight 8-bit battles to the death.

Director Marcus Herring: “The visual look of the video was inspired by the beauty of low resolution pixel art in classic arcade games. I was intrigued by the idea that a face can still look beautiful even when it is scaled down to a resolution of 12 pixels tall.” As Delicious Vinyl Curator Rick Ross, who produced the video, says: “We really aimed to break that proverbial fourth wall in the gaming universe — the fine line between man, woman and machine.”

The video’s concept was based on an original arcade game specially designed for the 12-inch artwork for Bobby Evan’s “Freak-A Zoid Robotz.” Herring expanded upon that arcade game concept, fleshing it out with a video full of players/gamers including L.A. Rap duo The Keyishe, Team G, performance artist Yasmine Kittles, dancer/choreographer Amanda Furches, dancer Erin Beneze, Anthony Julio (creator of the golden robot mask seen in the video) and the world famous KXLU DJ, Bianca Bracho.

“Freak-A-Zoid Robotz” is the lead track and theme song from Delicious Vinyl’s critically lauded RMXXOLOGY album. The song itself is inspired by a truly obscure cut from deep in the Delicious Vinyl catalog: an electro-bass number called “The Fine Line Between Hyper And Stupid” that appeared on the b-side of Tone-Loc’s 1990 single “I Got It Going On”. With “Freak-A-Zoid Robots”, Bobby Evans (half of L.A. hip-hop duo Brother Reade) has taken it back to the real pioneers of Miami Bass, with whip-it-good drums, ass-clapping bass, and synapse-snapping synthesizers…all perfect for robot booty shaking.

To increase the freak factor a full-on 3-D version of the video is set to drop in the coming weeks. If you have 3-D glasses (maybe dust off the pair you got at Disneyland from Michael Jackson’s EO attraction?) you’ll be able to put them to freaky use. Filipsson & Lindblad Release ‘A Splendor In The Grass’

Nang Records, sister label of the highly respected Tirk Recordings presents a gorgeously warm album of deep disco and house. Holmar Filipsson and Klas-Henrik Lindblad aka Sasse both discovered electronic music in the late eighties and started djing shortly there after; Sasse in his hometown Turku, Finland and Holmar in Reykjavik, Iceland. Sasse started his label Moodmusic in ‘96 when still living in Finland, but has since succumbed to the irresistible pull of Berlin. Holmar threw some of the first Warehouse parties in Iceland in the early nineties before moving to NYC in ’96. Since then he has spent his time founding his labels Crack&Speed and Thugfucker Recordings.

The collaboration album is a long time a coming; Work started at the “Reykjavik Massive” Studio in Brooklyn a few years back. Then, following a lot of net file swapping, they completed the album in Berlin, at Sasses “BlackHead” Studios last year.

The Scandinavian pair share a love for disco and deep house music and this is very apparent in the music they have come together to make. Once in the studio each song happened naturally, one song progressing into another, each song portraying a little personal story. The collection of songs over the extended period eventually morphed into “A Splendor In The Grass”.

The tracks range from piano and bass driven deep disco house like “Another Plan”, “Shock Doctrine” and title track “Splendor In The Grass” to the NYC infused synth-funk grooves of “Daniel Wang is My Neighbor” & “Take Some Fresh”. Future single “Belfast” melds the cool Scandinavian nu disco vibe with the Alphaville style darting synth lines and floor led sensibilities. Retro tinges also make an appearance with tracks like “Happy Birthday Jef” sounding like a long lost Cameo instrumental from 1985 !!

All in all a varied and accomplished album that shines with attention to detail and a lovingly crafted quality.

Cosmo Vitelli’s I’m a Cliché records celebrates five years with its very first compilation – Moments Of A Crisis. Here’s I’m A Cliché very first compilation, celebrating five years of existence. The label, founded by Cosmo Vitelli, has released 12’’ by artists and producers such as Simian Mobile Disco, Yuksek, Bot’Ox, Runaway, Quiet Village, Tacteel and Tekel among others.

It seemed to be the right moment to take a look at the road behind us while keeping an eye on the future and all the beautiful gems to come.

The compilation, called Moment Of A Crisis, comes in two parts. Movement 2009 – 83,322 ATTENDEES OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
8,000 lbs of recyclable materials collected during three-day festival

Movement 2009 attendance and collected recyclable material numbers exceeded 2008 festival totals. Paxahau announced today that 83,322 people visited Hart Plaza during the three-day Memorial Day Weekend for the annual electronic music festival that featured nearly 100 performances on four stages.

“Movement 2009 was an overwhelming success on so many levels,” said festival producer Jason Huvaere. “People loved the lineup of performances we were able to put together this year. Our sponsors and vendors really stepped up this year despite the tough economy. The recycling program surpassed last year’s totals for collected items. And we had great weather the entire weekend, which definitely contributed to the record breaking turnout. As far as events like this go, in our eyes it could not have gone any better.”

Since Paxahau began producing Movement in 2006 attendance at the festival has steadily increased each year. An estimated crowd of a little more than 40,000 people attended in 2006 and nearly 45,000 attended in 2007. In 2008 nearly 78,000 attended and for the first time ever festival attendance was tracked using turnstiles. This year hand-held clickers were used to count attendance.

Festival-Goers Recycle
Electronic Music fans in attendance at Movement 2009 proved to be an environmentally-friendly group. Four tons or 8,000 pounds of recyclable materials were collected over the course of the three-day festival. This year’s total surpassed 2008 totals by 5,000 pounds.

Paxahau partnered again with Recycle Detroit, a non-profit organization founded by Detroiter Sarah Kubik. The hard-working non-profit had a team of 100 volunteers, utilized 40 recycling stations and successfully convinced nearly 2,500 people to commit to be more environmentally conscious.

“We were very pleased to have Sarah and her Recycle Detroit volunteers be apart of Movement again this year,” said Huvaere. “They have single-handedly taken the festival’s recycling program to the next level. Recycle Detroit is a great organization.”

Carl Craig Becoming Creative Director Steals the Show
Paxahau assembled an exciting lineup of local, national and international performers, but it was the announcement of Techno Music legend Carl Craig being named Creative Director for Movement 2010 that dominated the conversation on blogs and among groups of festival-goers all weekend long.

“We have received nothing but positive feedback from the announcement about Carl,” said Huvaere. “His involvement will strengthen the future of the Movement festival in Detroit. Carl is a musical visionary whose ambassadorship is unparalleled. We are extremely excited to have him involved at this level.”

In his new role Craig will be involved in various creative aspects of Movement and serve as an ambassador for the Movement festival as he travels the world performing for throngs of electronic music enthusiasts.

Movement’s New International Partnership
The new partnership between Movement Detroit and Movement Torino officially started as Movement 2009 ended. Together they hosted the festival’s closing party at Capital Square in downtown Detroit.

“It was an awesome start to what we anticipate will be a great partnership,” said Huvaere.

The producers of Movement Torino were in Detroit for Movement 2009. Maurizio Vitale said, “We enjoyed our visit to Detroit. The festival was fantastic. Torino and Detroit are very similar cities, which is reason we think our partnership with Paxahau is going to be very strong.”

The two groups will work together to promote each other’s festivals. Movement Torino, which takes place in October, was being promoted at this year’s festival with flyers and the Movement Detroit closing party. The web site is: www.movement.it. Flunk consists of Anja Øyen Vister on vocals, Jo Bakke on gitar, and Ulf Nygaard on electronics. They have many fanbases around the world, not least among film- and TV-producers in the US. (The O.C., C.S.I., The L Word, amongst others) The first two albums have sold over 10,000 copies each in the US, and Flunk is one of the Norwegian bands with most contributions on compilations around the world. ”This Is What You Get” is their fourth regular album (in addition to two remix-albums, and one combined mini-/remix-album). Where ”For Sleepyheads Only” from 2002 was influenced by (post) trip-hop beats, and Morning Star from 2004 was more of a pure pop album with folk and country elements, ”This Is What You Get” is a natural evolution from their last album ”Personal Stereo” (2007), with a darker and more experimental feel, with the electronic elements more present in the sound. This time with a distinct inspiration from the backstreets of London, with dubstep-elements (Stain, Shoreline, and partly in Dying To See You), and house-elements (Common Sense), but also a small dose of rock (Ride). The pop elements are still there, for example in Cigarette Burns,Common Sense and Down. Flunk have the habit of including a cover track on each album, this time the Radiohead-classic Karma Police gets the Flunk treatement, with rough, edgy syncopated rhythms and Anja’s lovely vocals.

NEW YORK – On September 8, The Hours will release underground sensation Dada Life’s debut artist CD Just Do The Dada. They don’t care about genres. They don’t care about smartness. They don’t care about the things you care about. Dada Life just wants to make you jump up and down. Then make you crash into a wall with a smile on your face.

Dada Life is the brainchild of Stockholm-based Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom. In the summer 2006, Dada Life released “Big Time” on Mylo’s Breastfed label and DJs all over got their first taste of the duo. Since then, there has been a steady stream of hit records from “The Great Fashionista Swindle,” “Vote Yes” and “Fun Fun Fun” to this spring’s “Happy Hands And Happy Feet” EP. Dada Life’s music is adored by both an eclectic mix of DJ talent – including David Guetta, Tiësto, Eric Prydz, Altern 8, Crookers and Don Rimini – and some of the most discerning underground tastemakers in the world (check out some of the quotes below).

Conceptually, Dada Life was inspired by the Dada cultural movement that originally began in Zurich during World War 1. “We don’t want to be perceived as arty, but we like the anti-ideas and f*ck-off-attitude of Dada. We have just taken the word Dada and filled it with whatever we like. Like the title track “Just Do The Dada” – it doesn’t really mean anything specific. That’s also the ideas we want to communicate – the basic concept of Dada Life – anti-everything, f*ck-all, but still not pinpointed. Everybody can do the Dada. But no one really knows what it is. All this has been the idea from the start. Hence older titles “This Machine Kills Breakfasts”, “Vote Yes” and “The Great Fashionista Swindle” and new tracks created for the album “Let’s Get Bleeped Tonight” and “Happy Hands & Happy Feet.” There’s a certain attitude to Dada Life, but it’s not specific,” Corneer explains.

When performing as a live act Dada Life is one box of bananas, a couple of bottles of Champagne and a lot of sweat and broken equipment. On the other hand, Dada Life DJ-gigs tend to go the same way with an MPC and some controllers that enable the boys to play around with samples and loops even when they DJ. They also constantly produce their own remixes/edits of good tunes in order to have something unique to play during the sets. North American audiences will experience this firsthand when Dada Life takes to the States for a full tour later this summer / early fall!
