We are back!

On the first day of my vacation while checking up my e-mail and doing some web surfing on the blackberry I noticed that my website wasn't showing up properly. The biggest problem was that this was the first day of my 10 day vacation with no real internet connections and all the website backups back at home. After further investigation it looked like some files got removed.

On Feb 17 the same night I got back home I got the website up and running again. I managed to recover most of the website content from a local backup. I also contacted the admins who are still investigating and trying to find out what exactly happened.

RSS feeds now on Feedburner

I have now setup the RSS feeds for the site through FeedBurner. Now you can take advantage of the great features that FeedBurner offers.

There should not be any negative impact. Let me know what you think or if something is not working right.

Comments re-enabled

I have finally re-enabled the posting of comments. I have rewritten the code that drives the news and comments. I have also added Recapture support to control the amount of spam and to help with digitizing books.

Win32Whois 0.9.14 Released

After a rather long wait win32whois release is here. It has a number of updates and fixes.

Website update

I have been quite busy on several things. One of the most noticeable is a website update. I've been trying to cleanup some things and also rewrote the News back-end. Most of the changes are minor, but I took my time to get them right. Also some of the pages weren't validating against HTML 4.01 spec and I think I have most of them fixed.

Also if you haven't seen my blog there's quite a few blog posts that have been posted.

Please let me know if I missed anything.

I know that quite a few people subscribe to the news RSS feed and might not have noticed that I have started my own blog. This is something that I wanted to do before and some people have also asked me to start posting more stuff that might not be website related. It's also the place to read what I am up to and other cool tips and slides and tutorials.

I have just updated all the references so the website should show 2 RSS feeds now. This will give you a way to subscribe to the blog RSS as well.

Here is a bugfix release that should resolve some of the things that got missed in the last release.

Changes since 1.5.10.3:
x Trying to finally fix the bug where indenting a block of text chops off the last character.
x Show right context menu when there's selected text, but mouse is over a link.

Here is long awaited Win32Pad 1.5.10.3 release that should address most if not all the reported issues as well as a couple of small improvements.

Changelog since last release:
+ Added Cut option to URL right click menu.
+ Added Ctrl+UP, Ctrl+Down handling to match other editors.
x Added a little hack to detect Unicode text which is missing Unicode BOM in the beginning of the file. (This should make Win32Pad work with latest Fiddler versions)
x Fixed a small off-by-one error when doing block indent operation.
x Selection start now starts from 1 not 0.
x When you select File->Reload the position is now saved/restored properly.
x Removed the Error during text conversion message that could show up when copying text to the clipboard. This was a consistent problem for people using Chinese Windows XP.

General Update

The new server is being setup and should go online pretty soon. This is something I've been waiting for for a number of weeks. It's a brand new server with lots of the latest and greatest stuff. Right now the website is still running on a temp server that's been tweaked for low resource and cpu utilization. I am getting and collecting all the feedback that's coming. I am not gone either, just trying not to make a big splash until I know that the new server is up and running and can handle a bit more traffic and hits. Stay tuned for lots of cool stuff and those long awaited updates and new releases... It's coming soon..

New/Updated website design.

I have finally rolled out the new/updated website design.

This is the new design I've been working on for some time. It should use more CSS and be much cleaner on the eyes and on the bandwidth.

New forum software installed

I have installed new forum software after getting tired of the old ikonboard setup. It seems that ikonboard is a bit behind the times, which includes lack of updates as well as a ton of bugs that have been reported.

I have installed SMF 1.1 software and had to struggle a little in order to preserve all existing posts and user accounts. Things look ok so far.

Please let me know if you have any problems with the new software.

I am currently considering setting up my personal blog which would cover some things that I run into or see in my day to day activities..

This could provide a slightly different perspective from just looking at my software and website. (Which I am considering re-doing or fixing up... possibly a separate post)

Win32Get status/poll

It seems that people are using win32get and are reporting some problems with it. I haven't touched that code in a while and I know that it has bugs in it.

I am currently considering if I should revive the project and fix up the code. But before I do this, I need to know if anybody is using it and how big that group is.

RWhois is Win32Whois is causing trouble

It has been brought to my attention that RWhois is causing some trouble in Win32Whois client. Please disable it if it's hanging or not returning proper results.

In order to disable it under Options menu find RWhois item. Make sure it's unchecked. (selecting it will toggle the option on/off).

P.S. I am going to change the defaults not to default to using RWhois for the next release. You will still need to either disable the option or remove the INI file for the defaults to go into effect.
