He discusses Richmond with no mention of Elizabeth Van Lew. He describes Sherman's March, with Sherman going off his lines with a certain number of men, then his forces growing. Why? Because Southerners were joining him. Winik does not talk about that at all. Personally, I did think he told an interesting story, but his omissions were glaring. I am looking forward to reading The State of Jones, by Sally Jenkins and John Stauffer. Winik’s book is as interesting for what it omitted as the story it told.
