Each quarter, after countless reviews that are both published and not published, I put together a list of the top applications for Windows Standard (non-touchscreen) and Professional (touchscreen) Phones. The list is made up of applications that I feel are the top of their respective class, providing the most "bang for the buck" as well as working as they were intended.

For the 3rd quarter of 2009 I have made significant changes to the list both in content and in layout. Instead of being focused only on Touchscreen devices, I now include 30 applications for non-touchscreen phones, making this one of the more comprehensive Top Applications list available in the community. Keep in mind that this, like any other "top" list, is a matter of opinion. If you have a favorite application that you do not see on the list, let me know. I'll review it and if it passes muster I'll add it to the list.

ClintonFitch.com is know for Windows Mobile reviews but there are times in life where other areas of technology need to be explored and discussed. As a parent who has two college students, I am always on the lookout for technology that can make the life of my son or daughter a bit easier. Part of that search as been for a good notebook PC for them to use that will provide the power they need while also being robust enough in features and capabilities to meet their needs. It's a tall order given that for many college students today, their notebook PC is their primary entertainment center as well as an educational tool.

This week Hewlett Packard and Microsoft sent me the Pavilion dv2 Notebook PC and I think this may prove to be the device for parents to consider when looking for a notebook for their college bound student. Packed with plenty of processor punch, memory and impressive graphics, the dv2 can provide the power and responsiveness that a student needs while in class but also provide a rich multimedia experience when outside of class. And with a price of around $699.99, it's also budget friendly as well.

MobilityMinded Reviews the HTC Snap

My good friend and fellow Mobius member Remo has just posted a fantastic review of the new HTC Snap Windows Standard Phone. The Snap is the replacement for the very popular Excalibur and one that Mobians had a direct impact on it coming to market.

In the review, Remo does a great job of laying out the details of the Snap and provides plenty of device and screen shots for you to see. He also goes into various applications included in the Snap such as Inner Circle application and the Job Ball to move the navigate on the device.

This morning Opera Software released the first beta of their all new mobile browser, v9.7. The new browser gives you full fidelity on the pages you are viewing, not mobile versions, and does so with impressive speed. The new 9.7 version has a turbo mode which essentially is a proxy which will cache popular pages on the web.

The beta 1 for Opera Mobile 9.7 is free but keep in mind that it is a beta build. There are some known issues with it and support is not provided for it. You can find out more information and download it at http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/

HTC Fuze Gets a New ROM

For all you HTC Fuze (The AT&T version of the HTC Touch Pro), there is a new ROM out there for you.  This new ROM, built on the 1.4.6 AKU from Microsoft, has a whole host of improvements and changes, many of which were requested by the user community.

* Push to Talk button now re-assignable
* FM Radio Application
* Enhanced MS Voice Command
* Call waiting indicator is now audible when using Speakerphone
* HTC Music player supports Album art/info
* Improved TouchFLO3D and User Interface performance
