The fresh revelations about the four-times-married 72-year-old’s passing will further disturb the Kill Bill star’s family.

They were shocked yesterday by the publication of what appears to be a crime scene photo showing his body in a Thai newspaper.

Since Carradine was found last Thursday there have been conflicting reports on the circumstances of his death.

Family members insist the Kill Bill star would not have committed suicide and his U.S.-based lawyer Vicki Roberts claimed the star had been murdered.

Relatives went on to suggest he had been assassinated for delving into the affairs of secretive martial arts sects associated with crime.

A panel member on the Larry King show on U.S. television said: ‘David was very interested in investigating and disclosing secret societies.’

Carradine’s family lawyer Mark Geragos replied: ‘Absolutely. What that means is connected to his interest in martial arts.’

‘And so there is a suspicion that if there was some foul play, that may be the first area they should look.’

His widow, Annie Bierman, whom he married in 2004, has asked for an independent post mortem examination and has questioned the Thai investigation.

Thai authorities, however, insist the actor was alone in his hotel room and said this was supported by CCTV footage which did not show anyone entering or leaving his room.

Police spokesman Colonel Somprasong Yenthaum said U.S. embassy officials were present during the crime scene investigation.

‘I am confident we are working on the right track. U.S. embassy representatives saw every step of the investigation process in the hotel room,’ he said.

‘We can work with FBI if they request and their request is passed. But if they don’t come, we can do our jobs,’ he added.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the agency generally only gets involved in death investigations overseas if a crime is suspected.

Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand’s Central Institute of Forensic Science, said the circumstances under which Carradine died suggest that he may have been performing auto-erotic asphyxiation.

The practice involves temporarily cutting off the supply of oxygen to the brain to heighten the effects of a sexual stimulation.

Singer Michael Hutchence was found dead in 1997 in similar circumstances.

The lead singer of the Australian band INXS was found hanging in his hotel room and family members believe he was experimenting with the sex game rather than suicide.

Carradine’s former wives say he regularly tied himself up for sexual kicks, ignoring warnings he might one day kill himself.

Yesterday it was revealed that the star’s fourth wife, Marina Anderson, had filed divorce papers against Carradine in 2003, citing his potentially deadly ‘abhorrent and deviant sexual behaviour’ as a reason for the breakdown of their marriage.

Speaking about the theory that he was assassinated, she said: ‘If he was involved in secret societies, it was a secret even I didn’t know about.’

Another former wife, Gail Jensen, who was married to him for ten years, also said he had a penchant for bondage.

There is much to admire about Dave Pelzer. He proudly served his country during Desert Storm, and has received commendations from Presidents Reagan, Bush the First, and Clinton for his work as a motivational speaker. His other honors include being named California’s Volunteer of the Year in 1990, one of 1993’s Ten Outstanding Young Americans, and one of the Outstanding Young Persons of the World for 1994. In addition, he is a best-selling author and a loving husband and father. That’s a lofty set of accomplishments for any man, yet what I admire most about Dave Pelzer is that he didn’t grow up to be an abusive, alcoholic, psychotic mess. He certainly had reason to.

Pelzer is the survivor of the third worst case of child-abuse in California’s history, a case he vividly recalls in A Child Called “It”. Here he tells of a childhood so horrific and, at times, so nauseating that while reading I found myself praying that there was a hell so Pelzer’s parents could rot in it for all eternity. And not just hell, mind you, but a special place in hell designed specifically for people like this, a level of hell beyond anything Dante could imagine.

The tale starts with The Rescue, March 5, 1973. Having had his head smashed into the kitchen counter that morning for some minor offense, the 12-year-old Dave is sent to the school nurse upon arriving at school. It is a familiar routine for the child; he lies to the nurse about the bruise on his head, spouting the ridiculous explanation his mother has instructed him to recite. The nurse, once again, doesn’t believe him and checks her file on the boy. Bruises, cuts, malnutrition, and, of course, the stab wound: it’s quite a thick file.

On this day, March 5, the nurse has had enough and the school’s principal and the local police are called. In no time, young Dave is in a police cruiser, being taken to the San Mateo Juvenile Department, never to return home. It is important that Pelzer begin his story here, with the event he credits for saving his life. Knowing that there is an end to the suffering Dave endures allows the reader to make it through some of the book’s more difficult passages. By book’s end, most readers will be amazed and grateful that Pelzer survived long enough to be rescued.

The young Dave’s life wasn’t always hell on earth. The third of four boys in the Pelzer family, he describes his early years as a “Brady Bunch” existence, full of family picnics, holiday frivolity, and his mother’s wonderful cooking. Catherine, Dave’s mother, loved to cook exotic meals for her family and decorate their home in creative and imaginative ways each holiday season. She was full of energy, often taking her kids on tours of downtown San Francisco while her husband was at work, exposing them to Golden Gate Park and Chinatown. Once, while on a family camping trip, young Dave was watching the sunset when he felt his mother embrace him from behind and watch the sunset with him over his shoulder. “I never felt as safe and warm as at that moment in time,” he recalls.

But then, his mother changed. Slowly at first, but drastically. Her behavior became erratic and her drinking increased heavily. She became easily frustrated, and it seems that her biggest source of frustration was Dave, the loudest and wildest of her children. And thus, Dave’s nightmare began. Pelzer is never clear on what caused this drastic change in behavior; most likely, he doesn’t know and never will. This was the Sixties and people in suburbia didn’t discuss things like mental illness and child abuse. Too often, family secrets back then stayed deeply hidden, as was the case in the Pelzer family.

Catherine’s descent into madness went unchecked by those around her, particularly her husband, whose job as a fireman often kept him away from the family for days at a time. She found any excuse to punish Dave, while favoring her other children, and her punishments grew more demoralizing the older he got. Initially, she would slap him, smash his face into the mirror and make him repeat “I’m a bad boy!” or require him to search for hours for an item she had “lost.” But with time, her cruelty grew to include denying him food for days on end, making him sleep on a cot in the basement, forcing him to wear the same unwashed shirt and pants to school every day for three years, and referring to him only as ‘the boy’ or ‘it.’

As if those experiences weren’t damaging enough, she also devised special punishments for him, such as turning on the stove’s burner and laying the naked boy across the stovetop. Many are her “punishments” are too sickening to describe in the space available here, and to do so would destroy much of the emotional impact of the book. Still, one incident Pelzer describes gives a good representation of his daily life. After being deprived of food for three days, his mother had given him 20 minutes to clean the kitchen and do the dishes. Staggering drunk, she grabbed a kitchen knife and began waving it in his face, shouting, “If you don’t finish on time, I’m going to kill you.” In her drunken stupor, Pelzer’s mother lost her balance and stabbed her son in the chest. Initially, the mother took care of her son herself, denying him medical care despite his significant blood loss and the severity of the stab wound, but after a few days the boy was left to take care of himself again, even when his wound became infected three days later:

I snatched another rag, rolled it up and stuffed it in my mouth. I focused all my attention on the thumb and first finger of my left hand, as I pinched the skin around my slit. With my other hand, I wiped away the pus: The pain from the pinching was more than I could stand. With my teeth clamped tightly on the rag, my screaming was muffled. I felt as though I was hanging from a cliff. By the time I finished, a river of tears soaked my shirt. Fearing that mother would catch me not sitting at the bottom of the stairs, I cleaned up my mess, then half-walked, half-crawled to my assigned place at the foot of the staircase. Before I sat on my hands, I checked my shirt; only small drops of blood escaped from the wound to the rag bandage.

Dave’s hopes for rescue initially lay with his father. Once an advocate on behalf of his son, Stephan Pelzer, also an alcoholic, eventually grew tired of battling his wife and allowed her to do what she would to the boy. When Dave told his father that he had been stabbed, Stephan responded by asking why. Upon hearing that the boy had been stabbed while doing the dishes, the intoxicated father told his son, “Well, you ah , you better go back in there and do the dishes.” He did, however, promise not to tell his wife about their conversation so that the boy wouldn’t get into further trouble. It was at this moment that the boy realized that no one in his household would or could help him. Eventually, the elder Pelzer left the family, allowing his wife to take her reign of terror to new heights of sadism.

Pelzer’s parents are both dead, and therefore unable to offer their version of these events. However, the back of A Child Called “It” contains letters and statements from police officers and Dave’s former teachers to validate his claims. To the best of my knowledge, his brothers have remained silent regarding the book.

Obviously, the stories of Dave’s childhood are difficult to read. At times, I had to put the book down and walk away for a few days before I could continue. So why would anyone want to read this book, with its seemingly endless tales of torture and cruelty? More importantly, why should anyone read it?

There are two reasons, the first being that Pelzer’s tale is a testament to how much the human spirit can endure and remain whole. Pelzer tells of his resolve to not be defeated. With each incident, Dave managed to find some way to placate his mother. While he couldn’t make the abuse stop, he learned how to manipulate his mother’s behavior enough to keep the immediate situation from getting even more ugly. Each time his mother walks away from him, you get the feeling that he would like to shout out after her, “Ha! You didn’t kill me this time, bitch, and you aren’t going to kill me next time either!” It is an incredible tale of strength and courage in a person not even old enough to reach the bathroom sink.

With the rise in popularity of the Chicken Soup series and other feel-good-about-life books, it is easy to see why this book has become an international bestseller. If a child can endure this and walk away with his head held high, what the hell do I have to bitch about? Despite all that we endure…the cranky boss, the philandering girlfriend, the leaky roof, the unbearable traffic jams…there is so much more in our lives to be grateful for, and Pelzer helps us realize how blessed we truly are.

The second thing that Pelzer accomplishes is that he puts a face on child abuse. Every day, we see kids getting slapped in Wal-Mart or the grocery store and parents threatening, “Just wait till I get you home!” In recent months, we have heard tales of the mother who drowned her five children, and the mother who starved and imprisoned her daughter. Celebrities such as Anne Heche and Roseanne regularly appear on talk shows and in print discussing their dysfunctional families. Students are killing one another in our schools, and the media is quick to report on every detail of their home lives. After awhile, as we read these accounts, we become numb, write them off as yet another example of bad parenting, and think to ourselves, “Gee, that’s too bad. I really feel sorry for the kid.” Then we turn the page to find out what Marmaduke and Doonesbury are up to.

Pelzer refuses to let us have that easy out. There are people involved in these stories, he reminds us: people suffering in ways that we can not possibly imagine, and to turn our backs on them makes us no better Stephen Pelzer, the man who knew better and did nothing. I defy anyone to read this book and not admit that we must do something to stop the abuse of our most precious asset, our children.

One could say that A Child Called “It” is good literature if good literature is, in fact, supposed to illicit an emotional response from the reader. However, from a purely literary perspective, this book, the first of a trilogy about Pelzer’s life, is not really “good” literature. Pelzer’s writing style is simple at best; there is no great effort to employ the literary tools we associate with the classics: foreshadowing, detailed metaphors, analysis of motivation, etc. Pelzer relies on “language that was developed from a child’s viewpoint” he tells us in the author’s notes, resulting in a straightforward “This happened, then this happened, and this is how I felt” approach. What makes the book so compelling is the tale itself, as Pelzer describes incident after incident of cruel torture at his mother’s hands and the ineffective and lame efforts of his father to protect him.

Indeed, Dave Pelzer is an admirable man, not only for surviving a horrific childhood and growing up to be a man of many accomplishments, but also for taking us on a journey in A Child Called “It” that forces us to reevaluate our own lives and the world around us. I have yet to read the other two books in Pelzer’s trilogy, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave, but I am eager to follow the progression of this man’s life. Now a doting father, Dave Pelzer provides affirmation that the cycle of abuse can be broken. It is a message that must never be forgotten in our legislatures, our schools, or our hearts.

This strange, and, at times, overpowering novel tells the story of a daughter’s tortured struggle to understand herself outside of the fiery, all-consuming identity of her poetess mother. Astrid Magnussen has inherited her mother, Ingrid’s striking Nordic beauty, alertness to the poetry of all things, and extraordinary expressive powers (though her instincts lie in art, not in verse). These qualities may always link Astrid to Ingrid, but they also bind them together in an oppressive, damaging relationship. Astrid must fight to recover from her hellish childhood and adolescence. During this ordeal, both the reader and the heroine begin to wonder if our heritage is ultimately our destiny.

For Astrid, at least, we should hope not. Her mother lives life recklessly and strenuously, and her epic personality is always in unrelenting pursuit of the Muse. Aspiring violently toward transcendence doesn’t prove to be the prescription for an emotionally available mother. Despite the mournful neglect of her child, Astrid clings helplessly to her, because she is Astrid’s only home. But Ingrid’s behavioral and emotional excesses inevitably force her into a confrontation with conventional society. Murdering a scornful ex-lover lands her in prison for life, and forces Astrid to shuttle off to a series of mostly dreadful Los Angeles foster homes, where her wounding, but empowering experiences, punctuated by the tricky letters from her jailed, indefatigable mother, form the bulk of the long novel.

Fitch’s writing is almost maniacally poetic, piling simile upon metaphor upon simile, and forming, ultimately, a shivery, often gorgeous, narrative. This, compounded with sophisticated philosophical and artistic allusions and quiet observation of tragicomic detail, builds an unmistakable voice for Astrid, one which is both the voice of a yearning artist and of an aching human. Ultimately, Astrid’s redemption lies in her recognition that both these identities are dependent on the other, art feeding compassion, compassion feeding art.

The novel begins immediately after the end of World War II and chronicles the story of three young women who embark on careers that bring them to the dizzying heights of fame and eventual self-destruction. The three characters are brought together by a fictional play called Hit The Sky. Anne Welles recently arrives from New England with hopes of success in New York City, and she is working for an agency that represents legendary Broadway star Helen Lawson, who stars in Hit the Sky. Tony’s half-sister Miriam explains that Tony’s condition is congenital, convincing Jennifer to have an abortion, although Jennifer had planned to keep the child after divorcing Polar for unfaithfulness. In contrast to the film version where Jennifer finds herself working in “art movies” to pay Polar’s medical bills, Miriam pays Tony’s hospital expenses out of his own savings. Jennifer decides independently to do French art house films, since she is only highly regarded for her body and is desperate for money owing to her mother’s unceasing demands. Jennifer’s real ambition is to have children on whom she will lavish the approval and affection she was denied by her family. Stress and smoking make her an insomniac, and she uses the “dolls” (barbiturates) sparingly as sleep aids. Jennifer returns to the United States after years in Europe, where she gains moderate success as an actress. She meets and falls in love with a Senator. However, when diagnosed with breast cancer and told she must have a mastectomy, she finds that even this man cares only for her body and is horrified at the thought of her losing her breasts. Rather than face mutilation alone, she commits suicide with an overdose of “dolls”. Neely becomes famous on the Broadway scene, and moves to Hollywood to work in movies. She quickly earns a reputation as demanding, spoiled, and difficult to handle. Despite that fact that her movies earn high returns at the box office, they consistently lose money due to her behavior and long shooting periods. She becomes addicted to the “dolls” that Jennifer introduced her to, using them to lose weight and to sleep. At one point, Neely says that she is using up to 50 a day. After numerous suicide attempts, a year long black list from the entertainment world, and two failed marriages, Anne gets Neely committed to a psychiatric hospital. After leaving the hospital, she works with agent Lyon Burke to revitalize her career, and quickly returns to her vicious, arrogant behavior. She begins a relationship with Lyon, despite the fact that he is married to her close friend Anne. Her attraction to the “dolls” is too strong, and she seems to spiral into a final decline. Anne fares the best of all three, becoming a highly successful model after a stint as a secretary. Even in her administrative job, her beauty and class are obvious to everyone. Millionaire Allen Cooper falls for her after six weeks of dating shortly after she arrives in New York, and demands her hand in marriage. Anne, not ready to settle down so quickly, repeatedly refuses. Allen does not take no for an answer. During an out of town trip for the debut of Hit the Sky Anne realizes that she is in love with handsome and charming Lyon Burke, a lawyer at the agency. She has sex with him, and tells Allen the truth. He angrily breaks off the relationship, much to Anne’s relief. Her happiness is short-lived when she realizes that Lyon is not ready for a serious relationship with her. She remains in love with him for years, even when she is a successful model in a relationship with an older man. She meets Lyon again and their passion is quickly rekindled. She and Lyon are married, and Anne has a baby, whom she names Jennifer after her now dead friend. Lyon continues to have affairs, including with Anne’s close friend Neely. Eventually, Anne falls under the allure of the “dolls” and uses them to escape the reality of her relationship. Anne stays with Lyon despite his affair with Neely. By the end of the book, Anne has become increasingly under the influence of the “dolls” to dull the pain of Lyon’s continued dalliances with other women.
Background

Much of the narrative is drawn from the author’s experiences and observations as a struggling actress in the Hollywood of the early forties. The character of Neely O’Hara with her excess of talent coupled with her self-destructive alcoholism and dependency on prescription drugs, is said to be based upon Judy Garland, although her powerfully energetic stage and screen image are closer to those of Betty Hutton. Helen Lawson, the aging stage actress who befriends and uses Anne, is based closely on Ethel Merman, whom Susann had known personally and reportedly had been sexually involved with. Garland was originally cast in the movie as Lawson, until Garland’s unpredictable behavior led to her dismissal and Susan Hayward replaced her. O’Hara’s treatment in the sanitariums is a milder version of the fate that befell actress Frances Farmer. The tragic character of Jennifer North is said to be based upon actress/pin-up girl Carole Landis, who had been romantically involved with Susann in their Hollywood days. Like Jennifer, Landis was seen as an ambitious blonde with little real talent, and after a series of failed relationships and a career that had quickly stagnated, she committed suicide with an overdose of barbiturates. Certain aspects of her personality resemble those of Marilyn Monroe, particularly her actual yet often overlooked intelligence. The character of Tony Polar is rumored to be based on Frank Sinatra, but Susann herself was quoted in her biography saying that she got the idea for Polar when she tried to interview Dean Martin after one of his shows; he was too engrossed in a comic book to pay attention to her.

Yesterday Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard how 72 year old Kateryna Pyrczak was discovered by paramedics lying in “litres” of her own excrement on the floor of her kitchen last November 10th. Mrs Pyrczak’s legs and feet were consumed with gangrene and maggots were feeding from her rotting flesh, paramedics reported that the parasites had devoured her right foot.

In addition to the gangrene infection in her feet and legs, Mrs Pyrczak’s body was covered in painful, oozing ulcers. Paramedics told the police that when they entered the house it smelt like a rotting corpse had been dumped there.

The medical professionals rushed Mrs Pyrczak to hospital, but she died from multiple organ failure and septicemia within hours. Doctors who treated Mrs Pyrczak said they had never seen anything like it, some even required counselling.

Mrs Pyrczak was under the care of her 49 year old daughter, Mary Eve Pyrczak. When questioned the daughter told police she didn’t call for medical help sooner because she feared an $800 charge for using the service. Detective Senior Constable Victor Anastasiadis told the court that the house had smelt like death, but rather than call a doctor Mary Eve Pyrczak purchased cans of air freshener and also fly spray to keep the bugs off her mother.

Mary Eve Pyrczak was bailed and will appear in court again in August.

Her upstairs neighbor died and no one knew for days… until she experienced it firsthand.

“It’s been a total nightmare,” says Sylvia Pena, Modesto resident.

What happened to Sylvia was very real.

“I was sleeping on the couch… I was awakened by some drops that hit my face…

I thought I was drooling,” explains Sylvia.

It wasn’t drool or water dripping from her ceiling.

What happened to Sylvia inside her apartment could be a hollywood horror scene.

It’s so bad, she won’t return without a mask.

“This is where it dripped on me, from right here,” says Sylvia.

The drippings? Bodily fluids from the upstairs apartment.

Her neighbor had died… his corpse sat there rotting, he was dead for days.

The autopsy report found the 34-year old likely overdosed”… His body was “moderately to severely decomposed.”

And over time, the decomposition allowed bodily fluids to leak, onto his floor, through the ceiling, eventually onto Sylvia and her things.

“The smell is nothing like you’ve ever smelled before. It’s not like a dead animal, it’s not like rotten food or something.. it’s just something beyond… You can’t even describe it,” says Sylvia.

A biohazard team removed furniture and deodorized the place.

But she says the smell of death lingered. It already had seeped into clothes, bedding and her mattress.

She turned to her rental insurance company to get her pungent- smelling property replaced.

Farmers put her up in a hotel for two weeks until she could move, but they refused to replace the contaminated contents.

“Because my policy doesn’t cover something so bizarre as this,” says Sylvia.

Farmers sent her this letter, reading:

“Unfortunately, the blood and bodily fluid damage to your contents is not one of the 17 named perils covered in your policy.”

Perils like fire or lightning, windstorm, falling objects, even aircraft is covered but not bodily fluids.

“We buy insurance thinking for that reason that my property will be handled,” says Sylvia.

She moved to another apartment but only has a few boxes.

She sends her friend into her old apartment, with gloves, a mask and goggles, to retrieve items from the repulsive residence.

I ask Farmers Insurance spokesperson Jerry Davis, “Have you ever heard of anything like this?”

Davies says he doesn’t know of any insurance company that covers bodily fluids.

I ask him, “So there would’ve been no chance that she would’ve had coverage under any policy that exists out there, based on this unexpected circumstance?

“That’s correct,” says Davies.

And because it was so random, something his colleagues collectively have only heard about once in decades on the job, Farmers changed its mind.

“We are going to cover all of her contents,” says Davies.

And here are the checks Farmers sent Sylvia, totaling more than 33-hundred dollars.

That may be behind her but now, she needs to work on getting past that sickening stench from a corpse leaking on her.

“It’s been an awful awful, super super awful experience,” says Sylvia.

Farmers Insurance is now considering a national change to its policy…. adding “bodily fluids from death” as one of the perils they cover.

But so far, no decision has been made.

When asked how he got the $100 bills, the student first said it was his allowance. He later said he found it in a ditch — and led police to a spot by a highway where they also found marijuana and scales.

The boy, described as learning disabled, gave away about $11,000 of the nearly $18,000 in the bag. Law officers collected the money from students and from the school bus aide, who had reported that someone slipped $1,200 into her bag.

The boy is not expected to face charges. A sheriff’s deputy says he’s “a good kid” who was trying to help people in need.

Bloomfield described himself as trustworthy and reliable a year and a half ago when casting director David Córdova was auditioning extras for the Sony Pictures movie ” Felon ” starring Steven Dorff and New Mexico resident Val Kilmer.

And he got the movie role he was seeking playing a convict in a violent prison drama. He already had killed two people, and a month after “Felon” wrapped he resumed his real-life killing spree.

“We’re expecting actors to come to our casting calls,” Córdova told KRQE News 13. “I’m not expecting the real thing to come through.

“I don’t think anybody else was actually aware that we had cast a mass murderer on the film.”

Last October Bloomfield pleaded guilty to murdering five people in four separate crimes.

When Bloomfield showed up at the open casting call for “Felon” he said he was an actor with previous experience in the movie ” To Live and Die ,” which was filmed in Albuquerque, and the cable TV show ” Breaking Bad ” being produced out of Albuquerque Studios .

“He actually was what he came in to be,” Córdova said.

In the movie Dorff plays a homeowner sentenced to three years in prison for killing a burglar who had invaded his home. Kilmer, serving a life sentence, is Dorff’s cellmate.

Dorff’s character struggles to stay alive behind bars dealing with inmates and violence, away of life all too familiar to Bloomfield.  The film was shot in part at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, scene of the nation’s deadliest prison riot in 1980.

Bloomfield already knew something about prisons after pleading guilty in 2005 to an armed home invasion in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque.

He was out on probation in November 2007 when he filmed “Felon.” A month later he broke into the home of Tak Yi, 79, and his wife Pung Sil Yi, 69, in northeast Albuquerque and killed the couple.

Then in June 2008 he and a friend broke into a downtown home seeking a man suspected of being involved with the friend’s wife. However new tenants had just moved in, and Bloomfield shot and killed newlywed Scott Pierce, 38.

That’s when police arrested him. In exchange for avoiding a possible death sentence he pleaded guilty to those killings and the 2005 murders of Josephine Selvage and Carlos Esquibel.

“I think about the moments he had the opportunity to be with somebody alone and us not knowing,” Córdova said. “It’s really scary.”

Córdova says he can’t afford to background check the thousands of background actors he uses but he wishes he could.

Now serving five life sentences Bloomfield won’t be auditioning for any more movies after being cast in the permanent role of a prison inmate.

Maryland State Police airlifted the 27-year-old woman to Prince George’s County Hospital Center early Sunday morning after she was injured in an incident involving a sex toy attached to a saber saw blade, TheBayNet.com first reported.

The man who called 911 about the incident admitted attaching the sex toy to the saw and then using the high-powered, homemade device on his partner, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The saw cut through the plastic toy and wounded the woman, according to TheBayNet.com. The injuries were severe enough for medevac, but the woman was released from the hospital Monday and is recovering from her unusual injuries.

Investigators talked to the woman, who told them she suffered the injuries during a consensual act and that she and her partner were trying something new and no crime was committed, the sheriff’s office said.

Christian Popescu, 37, of suburban Kenmore, who emigrated to the area about 12 years ago from Constanta, Romania, pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to the sale or receipt of stolen goods.

Hitlers Bookmark

The 18-carat gold bookmark, engraved with a portrait of Hitler, an imperial eagle and a swastika, was forfeited to the U.S. government.

Police in Spain said three men took it and some jewelry from a glass display case at the auction house Duran Subastas de Arte in Madrid during working hours on Oct. 16, 2002.

Reportedly given to Hitler by Eva Braun after the Nazis surrendered at Stalingrad, the turning point in their invasion of the Soviet Union, the bookmark is inscribed, “My Adolf, don’t worry … (the loss) was only an inconvenience that will not break your certainty of victory. My love for you will be eternal, as our Reich will be eternal. Always yours, Eva. 3-2-43.”

Some antiques experts have questioned its authenticity, but federal agents said the theft made it illegal for Popescu to arrange to sell the bookmark Nov. 25 to an undercover agent for $100,000 outside a Starbucks store in suburban Bellevue.

According to documents filed in court, an informant told authorities Popescu had been trying to sell the bookmark in the area for $150,000. The informant helped to arrange the sale for the lower amount, investigators wrote.

Popescu told the undercover agent a necklace stolen at the same time had been melted down but that the bookmark was more valuable intact.

The auction house paid the owner of the bookmark - described by a spokesman for the business only as a Brazilian - about $10,000 after the heist, and an insurance company subsequently reimbursed the auction house. According to court documents, Spanish authorities estimate its value at $13,000 to $17,000.

Emily Langlie, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office, said Thursday it was unclear where the bookmark will be sent after Popescu is sentenced on June 12. He faces as much as 10 years in prison.

PATRICK SWAYZE

Patrick Swayze is slamming the National Enquirer and other media outlets for reporting what he calls “inaccurate” details about him nearing “the end” of his battle with cancer.

The actor, 56, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, has continuously tackled the Enquirer and other media outlets for printing what he has dismissed as little more than negative rumors.

On Wednesday, the Enquirer ran several photos of the Ghost actor appearing gaunt on the front cover of the magazine under the headline “The End.”

Counteracting the report, Swayze spoke out to People magazine, saying, “It’s amazing to me that the tabloids such as the National Enquirer print such negative stories about me and my health when there are so many positive things going on in my life right now. I’ve started a new chemotherapy and, once again, I am one of the lucky ones with pancreatic cancer that is responding well to the treatment.

“I am starting work on my new book, in addition to enjoying the fantastic response from everyone on my A&E series The Beast.

“I hope in the future, the press will think twice about printing inaccuracies and painting an unpleasant picture when I have so much to be thankful for at this time.”

Swayze has been praised for his strength and determination in the battle against the deadly form of cancer, which was discovered after his doctors found a malignant tumor in his midsection and a small mass on his liver. Soon after, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. In it’s advanced stages, pancreatic cancer can prove fatal in a matter of months, but the star has responded well to treatment.

His recovery has been described as miraculous, although he referred to his battle as “hell on wheels.” In an interview with Barbara Walters earlier this year, Swayze admitted to being scared and asking “why me?”

The case of Chris Brown’s assault against Rihanna is progressing.

After got he busted last Sunday and then released on $50,000 bail, 19-year-old Chris Brown is now waiting for the development of his case. It is reported that Rihanna won’t sue Brown for his harsh act. On Thursday, prosecutors say they don’t expect charges will be filed against him this week in an alleged domestic-violence case. According to District Attorney’s spokeswoman, Jane Robison, the office does not expect detectives to return to present their case this week. Police need more time to build the case, which probably for another several weeks.

Robison also added, if the Forever singer is later charged with a crime, he will have to appear on a March 5 court date that is stated in the jail records. We’ll see the upcoming result then, be patient and stay tuned!

Kevin Patrick Smith (born August 2, 1970) is an American screenwriter, writer, film director, actor and comic book writer. He is also the founder of View Askew Productions along with Scott Mosier. Smith’s films are often set in his home state of New Jersey, and while not strictly sequential, do feature crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon: the View Askewniverse.

Personal life

Smith was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, the son of Grace, a homemaker, and Donald Smith, a postal worker. He has an older sister, Virginia, and an older brother, Donald Smith, Jr. He was raised in an Irish Catholic (as stated in an interview in Clerks 10th Anniversary DVD) household and attended Henry Hudson Regional High School in Highlands. After High School he met Jason Mewes who would later become a recurring actor in his films. He then attended The New School for Social Research in New York and the Vancouver Film School, where he met Scott Mosier, his producer in every movie that he has made. He majored in film, but dropped out halfway through his studies, electing to take a partial tuition reimbursement in order to help finance his first film. Smith is married to Jennifer Schwalbach Smith. He named his daughter Harley Quinn after character Harleen “Harley Quinn” Quinzel from Batman: The Animated Series. Although Smith was raised Catholic he has said on Back To The Well, the Clerks II documentary, that now he only goes to mass on the day before he starts production of a movie, and the day before it premieres. He never smoked until his debut film, Clerks, where he used the cigarettes as a prop, but never actually inhaled. In fact, he has said that prior to filming Clerks, he was a staunch non-smoker.

Work as director

Clerks

His first film, Clerks, was shot for the sum total of $27,575 in the same convenience store where Smith worked. It went to the Sundance Film Festival in 1994, where it won the Filmmaker’s Trophy and was picked up by Miramax before the festival’s end. In May 1994, it went to the Cannes International Film Festival where it won both the Prix de la Jeunesse and the International Critics’ Week Prize. Released in November 1994 in two cities, the film went on to play in fifty markets, never playing on more than fifty screens at any given time. Despite the limited release, it was a critical and financial success, earning $3.1 million.

In March 2006, Smith announced he was working on a new, non-Askewniverse comedy. Zack and Miri Make a Porno, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, started shooting on January 18, 2008 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and wrapped on March 15, 2008.

Rogen briefly commented on the issue to MTV on June 19, 2008. “It’s a really filthy movie. I hear they are having some problems getting an R rating from an NC-17 rating, which is never good.” He concluded with “They [fight against] sex stuff. Isn’t that weird? It’s really crazy to me that ‘Hostel’ is fine, with people gouging their eyes out and shit like that, but you can’t show two people having sex — that’s too much.”

The film is scheduled for release on October 31, 2008.

Red State

Smith announced at the Wizard World Chicago 2006 convention that his next project would move in a different direction, and would be a horror film. In April 2007, Smith revealed the title of the horror movie to be Red State and said that it was inspired by extremist preacher Fred Phelps, or as Smith claimed, “very much about that subject matter, that point of view and that position taken to the absolute extreme. It’s certainly not Phelps himself but it’s very much inspired by a Phelps figure.” He plans to start shooting Red State in late March or early April. It has been recently posted on Kevin Smith’s website that he has already finished the script for both films. In a blog update, Smith stated that Bob and Harvey Weinstein have passed on Red State. The Weinsteins had thus far been involved in distribution of all Kevin Smith films, with the exception of Mallrats.

Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers

Another planned project for Smith is Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers. He has described the project as “My stab at a comic-book/sci-fi movie. It’s in the vein of Flash Gordon, something I’ve noodled with a couple of years. Now I feel we are mature enough filmmakers to tackle it”. In an April 2007 post on his blog, he mentioned that he’s “planning something special” for his tenth movie.

Clerks: Sell Out

Another project that has long been in the works is Clerks: Sell Out, a feature-length animated film done in the style of Clerks: The Animated Series. The fate of this project is currently unknown.

Acting roles

Silent Bob

As an actor, Smith is known for his role as Silent Bob in Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, and Clerks II. He made a cameo appearance in the horror film Scream 3, and was featured along with Jason Mewes in several Degrassi episodes, including a special, Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi (also as a fictional version of himself).

Other roles

From 1995 to 1997, Smith played small roles in the View Askew movies Drawing Flies, Vulgar, and “Big Helium Dog”.

In 2001, he appeared in friend Jeff Anderson’s Now You Know. In 2003, Smith appeared in a cameo role as coroner Jack Kirby in the film Daredevil. In 2006, he voiced the Moose in the CGI cartoon Doogal.

In 2007, Smith appeared in three films as an actor. He had his first starring role in a film he didn’t write or direct, co-starring as Sam in the film Catch and Release, starring Jennifer Garner. The performance earned him many favorable critical notices. Later that year, he had a small part as a hacker called The Warlock in the fourth installment of the Die Hard franchise, Live Free or Die Hard for which he again received strong critical notices. At year’s end, he appeared briefly in friend and fellow writer-director Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales, in which he played the legless conspiracy theorist General Simon Theory. That same year, Smith also did voicework for the CGI film TMNT as a diner chef.

Smith has also done small roles on television in shows such as Law & Order, Veronica Mars, Joey, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, and Yes, Dear (in Yes, Dear he also reprised his role as Silent Bob, which was simply him standing in one spot smoking a cigarette and saying nothing as the end credits rolled).

Comic writer

A life-long comic book fan, Smith’s early forays into comic books dealt with previously established View Askew characters, and were published by Oni Press. He wrote a short Jay and Silent Bob story about Walt Flanagan’s dog in Oni Double Feature #1, and followed it with a Bluntman and Chronic story in Oni Double Feature #12.

He followed these with a series of Clerks comics. The first was simply Clerks: The Comic Book, which told of Randal’s attempts to corner the market on Star Wars toys. The second was Clerks: Holiday Special, where Dante and Randal discover that Santa Claus lives in an apartment between the Quick Stop and RST Video. Third was Clerks: The Lost Scene, showing what happened inside Poston’s Funeral Parlor. (This story was later animated in the TV series style and included as an extra on the 10th Anniversary Clerks DVD.)

Smith has written a comic mini-series Chasing Dogma, which tells the story of Jay and Silent Bob between the films Chasing Amy and Dogma. He has also written the trade paperback Bluntman and Chronic, published by Image, which purports to be a collection of the three issues of the series done by Holden McNeil and Banky Edwards (of Chasing Amy). It includes a color reprinting of the story from Oni Double Feature #12, purported to be an early appearance by McNeil and Edwards.

These stories have all been collected in Tales From the Clerks (Graphitti Designs, ISBN 0936211784), which also includes a new “Clerks” story tying in to the Clerks 2 material, and the story from Oni Double Feature #1. They were previously collected by Image Comics in three separate volumes, one each for Clerks, Chasing Dogma and Bluntman and Chronic.

Smith makes occasional mention of his desire to do a comicbook one-shot of Bartleby and Loki (from Dogma) and the story behind how they got kicked out of heaven, as well as a comic-only sequel to Mallrats called Mallrats 2: Die Hard in a Mall announced all the way back in August 1998. In 1999, he won a Harvey Award, for Best New Talent in comic books.

Marvel and DC Comics

Smith began a lengthy association with Marvel Comics in 1999, taking over as the writer of the Marvel Comic Daredevil. His run, titled ” Guardian Devil” and lasting eight issues, was plagued by delays (which artist Joe Quesada publicly took responsibility for, though it was a sign of things to come). His tenure on Daredevil was controversial among Daredevil fans. Some fans accused Smith of misogyny in his handling of Karen Page’s death, and others objected to the killing of long-time Spider-Man foe Mysterio in a non-Spider-Man series. John Byrne and Howard Mackie (then-current writers on the Spider-Man titles) would bring the character back to life (however, because of the delays in his Daredevil run, Mysterio’s return to life in the pages of Spider-Man was published before the Daredevil issue featuring Mysterio’s death was published).

Kevin Smith followed this by jumping to DC Comics, producing a 15-issue tenure on Green Arrow that saw the return of Oliver Queen from the dead and the introduction of Mia Dearden, a teenage girl who would become Speedy after Smith’s run had ended.

Smith returned to Marvel for two mini-series: Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do and Daredevil/Bullseye: The Target. The former is six issues long, but after the third issue was published two months after the initially scheduled release date, the final issues were delayed for at least three years, prompting Marvel to release an “in case you missed it” reprinting of the first three issues as one book prior to the remaining issues’ release. The delay in part was due to Smith’s movie production schedule (in this case, work on Jersey Girl and Clerks II) causing him to shelf completion of the mini-series until the films were completed.

He was announced as the writer of an ongoing Black Cat series and Amazing Spider-Man’ in early to mid-2002. However, because of the fatal delays on Evil That Men Do and The Target, the plan was switched so that Smith would start a third Spider-Man title (originally planned for then-ASM writer J. Michael Straczynski), and even this plan was eventually abandoned and the title (by then known as Marvel Knights Spider-Man) launched, in 2004, by Mark Millar instead.

While the Spider-Man/Black Cat mini-series was ultimately completed, Daredevil/Bullseye: The Target remains unfinished, with one issue published. As of May 2007, Marvel and Kevin Smith have indicated that there are no plans for the mini-series to ever be completed.

Smith is reportedly going to be writing the limited series Batman: Cacophony (with art by friend Walt Flanagan) that will run November 2008 through January 2009. As announced at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, the series will reportedly feature the villains Onomatopoeia (a character created by Smith during his run at Green Arrow), Joker and Victor Zsasz.

Other projects and media appearances

Executive Producer

Smith was co-executive producer for the 1997 movie Good Will Hunting, assisting friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck with making and marketing their film. After Damon and Affleck received Academy Awards for their screenplay, critics alleged that Smith himself was responsible for the script, a rumor which Smith vehemently denies. Rumors also persisted that William Goldman had written the entire script as well, which Goldman denies. On an episode of “SModcast” in 2007, he also revealed that he was invited to direct the film, but ultimately turned the offer down, citing an insecurity he had at the time with directing something that he had not himself written.

Smith (with Mosier) executive produced four $40,000.00 films between 1995 and 1997. They are A Better Place, Drawing Flies, Big Helium Dog, and Vulgar.

In 2005, he served as executive producer on the Steve James documentary Reel Paradise. In 2006, he was the executive producer on the Sundance documentary Small Town Gay Bar, directed by Malcolm Ingram.

Currently Smith is serving as executive producer on the indie film, Diary of a Junkie. A mockumentary written, directed, and starring new comer Brandon Bennett, Diary takes a look at the life of a junkie who lives in an abandoned hotel, and works as a janitor during the day to support his habit. The project is currently being delayed due to budget issues. The project has gained attention via myspace due to Bennett’s realistic portrayal of a drug addict.

Hired screenwriter

In 1997, Smith was hired by New Line to rewrite Overnight Delivery (1998) which was expected to be a blockbuster teen movie. Smith’s then-girlfriend Joey Lauren Adams almost took the role of Ivy in the movie instead of the female lead in Chasing Amy. Eventually she lost out to Reese Witherspoon, and Overnight Delivery was quietly released directly to video. Kevin Smith’s involvement with the film was revealed on-line, but remains uncredited. He has said that the only scene which really used his dialogue was the opening scene, which includes a reference to long-time Smith friend Bryan Johnson. Coincidentally, Smith had considered Witherspoon for the role in Chasing Amy that ended up going to Adams.

For a time, Smith worked on a script for a Superman movie. He did a couple of drafts but his script was dropped when Tim Burton was hired to direct. Burton brought his own people to work on the project. Smith still sees the whole experience on working on the Superman project as a positive one though, since, in his own words he was well paid and it was a lot of fun. In the end, neither Smith’s nor Burton’s vision for Superman was filmed. Years later Smith noted the coincidental similarity between a scene in one of his comics and a scene in Burton’s remake of Planet of the Apes.

In the 2007 Direct-to-DVD animation release of Superman: Doomsday, Smith has a cameo as an onlooker in a crowd. After Superman defeats The Toyman’s giant mechanical robot, Smith scoffs, “Yeah, like we really needed him to defeat that giant spider. Heh. Lame!” This was an obvious reference to a giant spider that producer Jon Peters of the Superman movie wanted Smith to put in the movie when he was attached, that was later put into another movie tied to Peters called Wild Wild West.

In 2004, Smith wrote a screenplay for a new film version of The Green Hornet. The project however died after Smith’s longtime producing partner Scott Mosier said he didn’t want to produce something with such a big budget, and without Mosier producing, Smith no longer wanted to direct the movie and the script was thrown out. A new screenplay for the movie has been written by (and will star) Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno lead Seth Rogen.

Fletch Won

In 2002, Smith pressed his bosses at Miramax to pick up the rights to Gregory McDonald’s Fletch series. Smith hoped to helm a movie adaptation of Fletch Won, with the intention of making it more faithful to the original novel than the popular Chevy Chase films. Smith hoped to cast View Askew regular Jason Lee in the title role but this proposal was nixed by Bob and Harvey Weinstein. Smith spoke to Zach Braff about the possibility of taking the role, which he eventually accepted. In October 2005, Smith abandoned the project.

Other films

Smith was featured in This Film is Not Yet Rated - a documentary about the MPAA and how they sometimes unfairly give out ratings. Smith’s interview was in reference to Clerks originally receiving an NC17 rating and Jersey Girl an R.

Commercials

During the Mid 1990’s Smith directed and starred in a series of commercials for MTV: Music Television, along side Jason Mewes, in which they reprised their roles as Jay & Silent Bob. In 1998 he directed best friend Jason Mewes as “Gary Lamb - Ground Activist” in a series of Nike commercials. That same year, he also shot commercials for Diet Coke. Two years later, he directed “Star Wars” toy commercials for Hasbro. He has also directed and starred in commercials for Panasonic. In 2004 he also shot a public service announcement for the Declare Yourself organization. These advertisements brought Jay and Silent Bob out of their “semi-retirement.”

Documentary Films

Smith has appeared in 2 Q&A documentaries titled An Evening with Kevin Smith and An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder. The first is a collection of filmed appearances at American colleges, while the sequel was shot at two Q&A shows held in Toronto and London. Both DVD sets were released by Sony Home Video.

Smith appears with Marvel Comics guru Stan Lee in “Marvel Then & Now: An Evening With Stan Lee and Joe Quesada, hosted by Kevin Smith”. The film is similar in tone to the Evening With Kevin Smith series. Proceeds from the sale of the film benefit the Hero Initiative, a charitable organization that aids ill or aging comic book creators.

In 2008, Genius Productions will release a third Q&A DVD Kevin Smith: Sold Out, which was filmed during Smith’s Q&A on his 37th birthday, August 2, 2007, at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ.

SModcast

On February 5, 2007 Smith and Scott Mosier began podcasting. Their podcast is named the SModcast (Smith-Mosier podcast), and is presented by Quick Stop Entertainment. As of September 3rd, 2008, there have been 63 SModcasts.

There have been several episodes with guest stars filling in for Scott Mosier. These include Kevin’s wife, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, in episodes 20, 22 and 23, as well as Kevin’s friends Jason Mewes (Episodes 16, 36, 44), Walt Flanagan (Episodes 13, 14, 24, 25, 34, 35, 50, 59, 60, 61), Malcolm Ingram (Episodes 14, 24, 25) and Bryan Johnson (Episodes 26, 33, 34, 35, 59, 60, 61) and his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith for the Father’s Day episode, number 54.

Scott Mosier returned on SModcast 27 after a five week absence, having taken a trip to Mexico with his wife, travelling to Scotland for the Edinburgh Film Festival, and falling ill on his way home.

SModcast 37 served as a milestone in the history of the program (37 being an important/popular number in the View Askewniverse; particularly in the film Clerks) . To celebrate this, Smith and Mosier recorded their longest SModcast to date, lasting an incredible ‘one hour and forty-four minutes’; twice the length of a normal episode.

After the 44th episode, SModcast took an 11 week hiatus. This was due to the fact that Smith and Mosier were in production of their latest film Zack and Miri Make a Porno. SModcast resumed on April 6th.

Smith has been a regular contributor to Arena.

In 2005, Miramax Books released Smith’s first tome, Silent Bob Speaks, a collection of previously published essays (most from Arena) dissecting pop culture, the movie-making business, and Smith’s personal life.

His second book, My Boring-Ass Life: The Uncomfortably Candid Diary of Kevin Smith, published by Titan Books, was another collection of previously published essays (this time blogs from Smith’s website www.silentbobspeaks.com) and reached #32 on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

Television

Clerks: The Animated Series

In 2000, Smith and Mosier teamed up with television writer David Mandel (Seinfeld and SNL) to develop an animated television show based on Clerks. This was an idea Smith had been kicking around since the production of Mallrats and, after pitching it to nearly every major television network, ABC TV picked it up for airing in March 2000.

After being delayed to May, Clerks: The Animated Series aired only two episodes, out of order, before being cancelled as a result of poor ratings. The six produced episodes were released on DVD in 2001, marking one of the first occasions in which a very short-lived TV series found success in the DVD format.

After the series was cancelled Smith planned on turning it into a major motion picture. While that film was never made, Smith has stated that what would have been the Clerks animated film became Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.

Other appearances

Smith also appeared in an MTVu show titled Sucks Less With Kevin Smith. The show gives college students ideas for things to do on the weekends. Smith also played the role of Paul, a cynical married man, in a Showtime television series pilot, “Manchild”, filmed in December 2006. However, it was not picked up by the network.

After an August, 2001 appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” to promote “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”, Smith returned to the show for monthly segments as a correspondent. The “Roadside Attractions” segments featured Smith traveling to random locations around the country and showcased places like Howe Caverns in upstate New York and the Fish Market in Seattle. While five of these segments were included on the Jersey Girl DVD, twelve or more were aired on the actual show. Smith regularly appeared on the program to introduce the pre-taped bits.

From July 2006 on, Smith has guest reviewed on the television show Ebert & Roeper three times, in place of the recovering Roger Ebert. These spots have been notable for the arguments between Smith and Richard Roeper over certain films, with Smith often citing Roeper’s poor review of Jersey Girl to discredit his review of the film at hand. On his most recent appearance Smith compared Craig Brewer’s Black Snake Moan to the works of William Faulkner.

In early 2005, Smith appeared in three episodes of the Canadian-made Degrassi: The Next Generation television show. In the episodes, Smith, portraying a fictionalized version of himself, visited the school to work on the (fictional) film Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh!. Smith wrote all his dialogue for the shows he appeared in. All three episodes were collected on a DVD entitled “Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi”. Smith and Mewes also appeared in 2 more episodes the following season, when they returned to Degrassi for the Toronto premiere of the fictional Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh! movie.

In addition to appearing on Degrassi: The Next Generation, Kevin Smith is an avid fan of the original Degrassi series, Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High and references to the original are present in some of his early films.

Smith directed the pilot for a CW network show called Reaper. Tv.com’s summary of the show is “A twenty-something slacker finally scores a job as the devil’s bounty hunter.” He describes it as “less Brimstone or Dead Like Me and more like Shaun of the Dead than anything else”. He also goes on to say that the reason he took the job is that he has always wanted to direct something he did not write, but never had an interest in doing it on the big screen. He has since said he’ll never do it again.

At the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Kevin Smith would write and direct an episode of the Heroes spin-off, Heroes: Origins. Smith is the first director officially announced for the series. However, the project has been indefinitely postponed due to the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike.

Smith has also cameoed in the second season premiere of the sitcom Joey, where he played himself, on an episode of Law & Order in 2000 (episode “Black, White and Blue” playing Tony’s wife’s nephew), Duck Dodgers (2003 as Hal Jordan, voice only) and Yes, Dear (2004, as himself and Silent Bob). Smith appeared in the second episode of season two of Veronica Mars, playing a store clerk. He stated on his webpage that Veronica Mars is some of the best television work ever produced.

In the third season of the HBO series Entourage, Michael Bay and Kevin Smith are directing and writing Aquaman 2. In reality, Smith wrote a script for the Superman Lives movie, while Bay was attached to direct a separate Superman movie. In Entourage, the characters awkwardly react with obvious disappointment at Smith’s involvement. Smith has speculated that, that jab and another from season 2 may have been motivated by a book he was involved in, in 1995 where he criticized Rob Weiss and his movie Amongst Friends. At his 37th birthday Q&A in August 2007, Smith assured the audience that he was not offended by the jibe, but rather that he is always tickled when his name is mentioned on television shows. He said that whether the comments are positive or negative, his reaction is “The magic box said my name!”

Secret Stash

Smith owns and operates Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey, a comic book store largely dedicated to merchandise related to his films and comics. The current location is its second. The store was moved to a defunct ice cream parlor on Broad St. after Smith sold the Monmouth St. property. The New Jersey location is managed by Smith’s long time friend Walt Flanagan, who appears frequently in Smith’s films. A second Secret Stash in the Westwood section of Los Angeles was opened in September 2004 and was managed by long-time associate Bryan Johnson, who has appeared in Smith’s films as Steve-Dave. Smith had announced that he would close after his lease expired and Johnson wanted to resign, but eventually relocated to Laser Blazer, a DVD store in Los Angeles.

On the Internet

Kevin has also become well known for his relationship with his fans, and states in the closing credits of Clerks II that he “spends way too much time on the internet”. One of the first filmmakers to use the internet to reach (and build) his audience, Smith opened The View Askewniverse (www.viewaskew.com) in late 1995.

Smith has an online blog, “My Boring Ass Life”, that chronicles his life and work. Often brutally transparent, his blog has exposed celebrities and the inner workings of Hollywood, as well as given fans a peek into the Smith household. The majority of the site’s contents were published in print as “My Boring Ass Life”.

He posts almost daily at his web board where he posts new information about his films, and interacts with the fans. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’s fictional website MoviePoopShoot.com became real in 2002, converting into an entertainment website covering movies, music, comics, toys, and video games. It is now Quick Stop Entertainment (www.quickstopent.com) - the home of SModcast.

Also under the Askew Internet banner: News Askew (www.newsaskew.com) - a daily collection of news items relating to Smith, his films, and the people he’s worked with.

He remains very active on MySpace and Facebook as well.

Fan gatherings

Smith regularly holds fan gatherings - usually in the Red Bank, New Jersey area.

Trailer Trash (1995) was the first of these. Held at the Count Basie Theater as a benefit for the theater and hosted by Smith and Mosier, it consisted of two hours of old film trailers. This is largely held to be the first “Board” event - as Smith used his then-nascent website to spread the word about the benefit.

The “Chasing Amy” gala (1997), however, set the formula that’d be followed for over a decade to come. Loyal posters on the message board at www.viewaskew.com were invited to an early screening of “Chasing Amy” at the now-defunct Middletown Multiplex. Afterwards, there was a get-together at the Broadway Grill on Broad Street in Red Bank, and Walt Flanagan opened Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash after hours for an autograph signing.

In 1998, View Askew held the first in a long series of private film festivals called Vulgarthon at the Clearview Cinemas in Red Bank, New Jersey. The sold-out event featured screenings of all of Smith’s films that’d been released up to that point, as well as smaller films Smith either financed or had a hand in producing. The event was subtitled “Five Flicks, Forty Bucks”.

Vulgarthon was held every other year after that, always in Red Bank (except in 2005 when it was held in Los Angeles). These events usually have fans flying in from different countries to attend. To date, there have been five Vulgarthons. The most recent, Vulgarthon 2006, featured screenings of the then-yet-to-be released Clerks II. Besides Smith himself, guests have included Brian O’Halloran, Jason Mewes, Jeff Anderson, and Smith’s wife Jennifer.

In 1999, Smith held a one-off “Dogma” screening, benefiting the Diabetes Foundation.

In August 2007, Smith held a Birthday Prom that was board-inspired and populated as well. For the last year, Smith has been having board-based poker games and tournaments, in which members from his website’s message board roll cards with Smith, Mewes, and others, usually at Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank (though, a few times, at Smith’s own house). The longest game lasted from 7pm to noon the next day.

Various appearances

In July 2005, at a Q & A in Vancouver, BC, Smith was awarded an honorary degree from the Vancouver Film School, where Smith was a student for four months before dropping out.[37] Smith also has a street named after him in Paulsboro, New Jersey (where he filmed Jersey Girl), “Kevin Smith Way”. The road leads to Paulsboro High School, where Smith used the auditorium for several scenes in the movie.

On May 20, 2007, Smith received an Honorary Associate of Letters degrees during the ceremonies surrounding the Commencement of the Class of 2007 of Brookdale Community College.

Smith’s longest Q&A session took place April 2, 2005 at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. The sold-out event was over seven hours long, took place from 8 pm through 3 am (which due to daylight saving time, was actually 4am). Following the Q&A, he opened Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash for a meet and greet with the numerous remaining audience members, which ended around 6:30 am. Smith then hopped a plane and did another Q&A at the Raue Center For The Arts in Crystal Lake, Illinois that night. Planned for 2 hours, it lasted just over 5 hours, ending a little after 1 AM Central time.

In August 2006 Kevin Smith, with the support of the Netflix Rolling Roadshow, brought Clerks back to Red Bank, New Jersey. Originally slated to be at the “Quick Stop” in Leonardo, NJ, the town board declined to grant the necessary permits for the show to go as planned. The show went forward in the Red Bank Marine Park in Red Bank a few blocks from the Secret Stash comic book store, where an estimated 3000 people gathered for the event. An impromptu Q&A led off the event with Smith taking questions from the crowd while introducing members of the original cast of “Clerks” (most being friends and family from Red Bank).

It’s official, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are now husband and wife. The celebrity couple quietly tied the knot on Saturday, September 27 in an intimate ceremony outside Vancouver in the groom’s native Canada.

A representative for the actress confirmed to US Weekly a wedding did exist and was attended by her mother, Melanie Sloan, and her brother, Adrian Johansson. The marriage is the first for both Scarlett and Ryan. No other details are being provided.

Scarlett, 23, and Ryan, 31, began dating February last year shortly after he ended his engagement to singer Alanis Morissette. They announced their engagement in May 2008. Details of the exact engagement day and ring were kept under wrap, but Scarlett had since been spotted sporting a three-carat diamond ring estimated to be worth about $30,000, which was widely believed to be the ring Ryan gave her to mark their engagement.

Neither Scarlett nor Ryan has issued official statement about their hush hush nuptials, but a representative for the actor has been telling E! “Yes, I can confirm they are married.”

Yoda the Cat

Chicago, Illinois, couple Valerie and Ted Rock took the cat in two years ago after they visited a local bar, where a group of drinkers were handing the animal around and making fun of him.

Since being adopted by the Rocks and after getting his picture posted on the Internet, the two-year-old feline has become an international media celebrity.

The Rocks have received calls from Good Morning America, Fox News and The Tyra Banks Show. The moggy’s mugshot has graced the pages of the London Guardian and British tabloids.

Despite his strange appearance, Yoda - named after the pointy-eared Star Wars character (pictured below) - is a perfectly normal and affectionate cat and a delight to have around.

His extra ears are thought to be the result of a genetic mutation.

But Yoda’s owners are keeping a close watch on their much-loved pet. They are concerned he could be catnapped because he is so different.

32-year-old Dede, who lives in a remote village in Indonesia with his two children, feared that he would be killed by the tree-like growths that cover his body.

Known locally as ‘Tree Man’ his condition has baffled local doctors for 20 years.

He has root like structures growing out of his body - branches that can grow up to 5cm a year and which protrude from his hands and feet, and welts covering his whole body.

In an attempt to earn a living to support his family, he is part of a circus troupe, displaying his Tree Man limbs along with others afflicted with skin deformities in ‘freak’ shows.

The former fisherman was the subject of a documentary “Half Man Half Tree”, part of the “My Shocking Story” series on Discovery Channel TV.

Dede’s story began when wart-like “roots” started growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident. The medical world was completely baffled.

The welts spread rapidly across his body and soon he was not able to carry out ordinary household tasks.

Dede was sacked from his job and deserted by his wife. He has been raising two children, now in their late teens, in poverty. He is resigned to the fact that local doctors have no cure for his condition.

To try to support his family he even joined a local “freak show”, parading in front of a paying audience along with victims of other peculiar diseases.

While he has the support of his extended family, he has frequently been a target of ridicule and abuse in rural fishing village where he lives.

But now new hope has emerged for Dede after an American dermatology expert flew out to his home village south of the capital Jakarta.

Dr. Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland claims to have identified Dede’s condition, and has proposed a treatment that could completely change his life.

Following the testing of samples of the lesions and Dede’s blood, Dr. Gaspari says his condition is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). This is a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.

Dede’s problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his immune system. This means his body is unable to contain the warts.

According to Dr. Gaspari, the virus was able to “hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells”, instructing them to produce huge amounts of the substance that caused the tree-like growths known as “cutaneous horns” on both his hands and feet.

The doctor became involved in the case through the Discovery Channel documentary, and he is convinced that Dede’s condition can be largely cleared up by a daily doses of a synthetic form of Vitamin A, which has been demonstrated to stop the growth of warts in severe cases of HPV.

Bruised and burned Katie McNamara lies in a hospital bed after the attack

Katie McNamara was lured to a house by her former friend Francesca Raby, 18, before her marathon ordeal took place.

During the horrific attack, Raby and her friend Kelly Louise Garrity, 26, punched, burned, kicked and stabbed McNamara before locking her in a cupboard.

The two women hacked off McNamara’s long black hair and forced her to lick her own blood off the floor.

After Raby and Garrity were sentenced for assault and false imprisonment, McNamara, now 20, spoke of her horrific attack.

She said: ‘I thought I was going to die. They were going to keep me another night if the neighbour had not turned up.

‘I kept asking them to stop but they carried on, laughing at me. I was really scared when they were stamping on my head. I couldn’t escape - they had locked the front door and there were two of them, I had no chance.

‘They cut my hair and then put my face into a mirror and said “you don’t look so pretty now”. Maybe they were jealous of my looks. I will never forgive them for what they did.’

Katie’s injuries were so severe her mother Denise didn’t even recognise her in the hospital bed.

Sentencing the two women at Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Geake said: ‘That night, possibly affected by a cocktail of drugs and alcohol, you allowed your darker sides to get the better of you in a most bizarre way. It was quite inexplicable.’

Garrity was sentenced to four years in prison and Raby 40 months in a young offenders’ institution after both pleading guilty.

McNamara originally fell out with Raby after the latter had accused her of stealing her mobile phone in November.

Later that day, Raby phoned her up apologising and asked her to come to an address in Farnworth, Bolton.

After she arrived at the house with another friend, the two women pulled her by the hair into the kitchen and started kicking and beating her.

McNamara’s friend attempted to intervene, but was threatened and told to leave.

She was then taken by taxi to a second house, where two men joined in the attack.

During the attack, McNamara lost conscious repeatedly.

As well as being punched, kicked and stamped on, she was burned with cigarettes and Garrity threw a kitchen knife at her.

A female neighbour visited the house the following morning, where Garrity and Raby showed what they had done to McNamara.

They told the woman they would kill her if she told police.

After being hospitalised, McNamara spent four months receiving treatment as an outpatient. Her hearing has been permanently damaged.

Spokesman Abie Khoabane said it took place on Friday evening and the victims were yet to be identified.

He told local newspapers that the couple ignored the driver’s shouts as he moved the train into the disused station in Kinross town.

“They continued with their business,” he told the Sowetan paper.

According to South Africa’s Beeld newspaper, the area was deserted with no cars or houses nearby.

The man died at the scene and the woman died later at hospital, the Sowetan reports.

The police have appealed for those with missing relatives to come forward to help with their investigation.

Federal and local authorities are on the hunt for someone peddling 12 photos of 17 year old Jamie Lynn Spears breastfeeding her newborn daughter Maddie.

According to TMZ.com, the photos were taken on her fiance Casey Aldridge’s digital camera.

Law enforcement officials believe an employee at a Louisiana Wal-Mart - where Aldridge dropped off his camera — may have made extra copies in an attempt to sell them.

Because Jamie Lynn is a minor, selling the photos — or buying them — could constitute a violation of federal laws prohibiting pornography, according to TMZ.

Six-year-old Erica Rix rests in her family’s Los Gatos home in a beige cast after surgeons beat the odds and reconnected her left hand, which had been severed by a jump rope in a freak accident.

Two weeks ago, Erica was riding in the back seat of her mother Allison Rix’s car and playing with a jump rope that she had picked up at soccer practice. She put one end of the rope out the window to flutter in the wind, but it caught on the car’s axle. With a nooselike slipknot tight around her wrist, the rope sliced off her hand.

“I couldn’t make sense of what happened,” said Allison Rix, who said she hadn’t seen the rope. The back window was open about eight inches. “The next thing I know, my daughter is bleeding to death and there’s no hand.”

But the quick action of passersby, rapid emergency response and 10-hour surgery by hand specialists saved Erica’s life and hand. She eventually may regain movement and function.

Daves Avenue. But on that day his wife had asked him to pick up his 10-year-old daughter and her friend from tennis, and even suggested an alternative to the Highway 85 route he usually drives.

He came across Allison Rix’s Suburban stopped in the middle of the road, and her hysterical next to it. “It was a terrible sight” — one that made it hard to sleep for nights afterward, he said.

Erica was still buckled into her booster seat, her mother said. Bailey, who had taken classes to refresh his first-aid skills about four times, used his belt to create a tourniquet for the wounded arm. Then he began calming Erica.

Another motorist, Gail Andrews, was driving the opposite way on Daves. “I saw Allison get out of the car and she was shouting, ‘Please help me, my baby, my baby.’”

Andrews, a former hospital manager who volunteers at the Los Gatos Police Department, knew that 911 calls from cell phones sometimes don’t immediately reach local dispatchers. So she dialed the Los Gatos police direct emergency number, which she had programmed into her phone.

Passerby Pat Heller stopped and spotted Erica’s hand, with the blue-and-white nylon rope still around it, in the street. She and a resident helped direct traffic to protect the hand from cars.

“I took some real deep breaths. I just kept telling myself, ‘This is a child’s hand,’” Heller said

As Rix was still trying to redial 911, Andrews jumped into Rix’s car to comfort Erica. “I was holding her, through to the back seat. She was amazingly calm, and wanted to know what happened.”

Andrews and Bailey told Erica she had had an accident. “She asked, ‘Will I have a cast?’” Bailey said, “And I said, ‘Yes, when my daughter broke her arm she had a cast and it was pink and everybody signed it.’”

“And she wanted to know who was going to come to help,” Andrews said. “I said, ‘Firefighters, and if you listen closely, you will be able to hear them.’”

Indeed, the sirens were approaching, responding to Andrews’ call. Rix said she hadn’t been able to get through on 911. (Los Gatos police said dispatchers couldn’t understand her, so they called the cell phone company to get her address.)

The ambulance took Erica to Valley Medical Center in San Jose, then she was airlifted to Stanford. Doctors faced a huge challenge, surgeon Nathan Menon said, in trying to reattach the tiny veins and arteries of a young patient, and in repairing the damage inflicted by the rough amputation.

But the four-surgeon team, led by Dr. Jeffrey Yao, reattached the severed hand in 10 hours of surgery. “We are very proud of our effort and results. When a child is injured, it is an emotional thing,” Menon said.

During nine days in intensive care, Erica received a host of visitors: Los Gatos Police Chief Scott Seaman and various police officers, her rescuers, friends and well-wishers. She thanked Andrews and noted that the Monte Sereno resident wasn’t wearing her hair in a ponytail as she had the day of the accident,.

A classroom of fifth graders at Saratoga Elementary school initiated a fundraiser, donating and selling toys and snacks during recess, to fund the tutoring Erica will need after her reconstructive surgeries. Bailey’s wife, Cheryl, is holding a fundraising luncheon with her group Wonderful Witchy Women With a Cause on Oct. 27.

Rix said Erica is still struggling with recovery. But, she said, the family is grateful to the angels who came by. ”We thank our lucky stars every day.

It was the ultimate expression of road rage. A furious woman driver died after ramming another vehicle and spinning her wheels so fast that her own car burst into flames.

Serena Sutton-Smith, 54, burnt to death after refusing to get out of her Vauxhall Nova as she sat with her foot flat on the accelerator.

She spun the wheels so fast that her tyres disintegrated and the metal rims sent a shower of sparks into the engine, igniting the brake fluid and setting the car on fire.

Appalled onlookers urged her to get out of the car as the flames licked around her but she told them to “F*** off”, an inquest in Gloucester was told.

The inquest heard that Paula Small was driving her Fiat Punto when Ms Sutton-Smith emerged from a side road without stopping, causing her to swerve to avoid a collision. Mrs Small was forced on the grass verge and she flashed her lights as Ms Sutton-Smith passed her.

Ms Sutton-Smith then pulled over and Mrs Small stopped a short way in front of her. She was getting out when the Vauxhall Nova rammed her car.

Mrs Small said: “I opened my door and put my foot out but as I was getting out there was a bang and I hit my head on the door frame. I was frozen with terror.” As neighbours came to investigate they saw Ms Sutton-Smith sitting with a furious expression, revving her engine and spinning her wheels.

Nicholas Willmore told the inquest that he was in his workshop at Cottage Farm Antiques when his mother alerted him to what was happening outside. As he walked across the road to the two cars he saw smoke coming from the engine of the Nova.

He said: “There was a deafening sound of an engine running as though someone had a foot stuck on the accelerator.

“The car’s front wheels were spinning and there was loads of revving. I could see a biggish person at the wheel and there was movement in the car. Flames were coming from underneath the car and I thought the person might be trapped inside although I couldn’t hear any shouting.

“I opened the driver’s door wide. It opened easily. The person looked at me, it was a big built woman. I said ’You’ve got to get out of the car. It’s going to burst into flames’.

“The person replied ’F*** off, just f*** off’ and she raised her right fist towards me in a threatening manner before slamming the door shut.

“I was a bit bewildered and moved 3-4 yards back. I could see her gesturing towards me. She seemed to be in quite a rage. Both fists were raised and being shaken and the person was looking right at me.

“This was definitely done in a manner to tell me to stay away from her car.” Mr Willmore grabbed a fire extinguisher from his workshop but it failed to put out the flames. Another motorist also tried to extinguish the flames.

Mr Willmore added: “The heat was getting more and more intense and the flames were growing. I could no longer see inside. There was nothing that could be done to help the person inside.

Fire officer Andrew Clayton said: “The circumstances indicate that this was a deliberate act. She remained in the vehicle after ramming a car and then sat with the front wheels spinning until fire developed.

“The front nearside passenger wheel gouged into the road surface by 50mm and the tyre was totally destroyed by the friction. This would have produced sparks igniting fluid, most probably brake fluid.” The inquest heard that Ms Sutton-Smith, who had previously worked behind the bar at a working men’s club in Ashton sub Edge, had a history of erratic behaviour and suffered from bipolar disorder.

Alan Crickmore, the Gloucestershire coroner, said that her mental condition meant that she failed to appreciate the danger she was in.

He said “At no time, prior to becoming incapicitated, was Serena trapped in her vehicle. She was certainly able to get out of it when Mr Willmore opened the door and invited her to do so.

“I am driven to the conclusion that if at any time she had wanted to do so before becoming incapacitated she could have got out of the car and would not have died as a result of the fire.

“I am satisfied the fire was started because of her deliberate actions. But I am far from satisfied that at that point in time it was her clear intention that death would ensue.

“I think it is more likely than not that she failed to understand the peril she was in and the consequences of her actions.” He recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Mr Stalnaker is prone to potentially fatal seizures after suffering a brain injury while serving in the US military a decade ago. He adopted Buddy at the age of 8 weeks from a Michigan-based group called Paws With A Cause, which trains so-called “service dogs” to help humans.

The victims all suffered 666 knife wounds — the number associated with the Beast, or Antichrist, and featured in horror films such as The Omen.

The pals, three girls and a boy aged 16 or 17, were all Goths.

They were lured one by one to a cottage and forced to get drunk before being butchered.
Hair from them was found in the embers of a fire the gang lit under a tree.

Police believe the teenagers were cooked in the flames before their flesh was devoured.

Their private parts had also been cut off in the sickening ritual in a rural area of Russia.
After police arrested eight suspected members of the ring, one boasted how they had previously dug up the grave of a newly-dead girl and eaten her heart.
Another said he did not expect to be punished, saying: “Satan will help me to avoid responsibility. I made lots of sacrifices to him.”
And a third said he had got fed up with God for not making him rich and that “things improved” after he started praying to the Devil.
The discovery in Yaroslavl, 300 miles from Moscow, sent a shudder across Russia — where Satanists are feared to have committed a string of mutilations and killings.

The victims, who all disappeared in June, were named as Anya Gorokhova, Olga Pukhova, Varya Kuzmina and Andrei Sorokin.
The upside-down cross marking what was left of their bones and scalps had a small animal nailed to it.
Police began tracing the gang after finding out that all the victims had made phone calls to alleged leader Nikolai Ogolobyak.

Locals said they all knew Ogolobyak, whose grandmother revealed he had sung in the local church choir as a boy.
The rest of the cult were described by ex-teachers as having been of low intelligence and moody at school.
Three were named by police as Ksenia Kuznetsova, Alexander Voronov and Anton Makovkin.
The dad of victim Andrei said: “My son said he had Goths and Satanists among his friends.
“I wasn’t scared. I thought, ‘Well, let him spend his time sitting around a cemetery — there’s not much harm in that, is there?’”
 
Russia has seen a series of gruesome murders, rapes and desecrations linked to Satanic cults.
Moscow alone has 15 whose worship is thought to revolve around symbols such as 666, an upturned five-pointed star within a circle and the swastika.
Devil worshippers believe in putting themselves first and their core values include pride, indulgence, ambition and meeting sexual desires.
In Britain, about 400 people list their religion as Satanism. Followers meet at a “Grotto” for rituals with candles and swords run by witches and warlocks.

Naomi Hill

A tape recording of a mother telling in detail how she killed her disabled daughter was played to a Crown Court jury yesterday.

The harrowing evidence was heard in the trial of Joanne Hill who is alleged to have murdered four-and-a-half year old Naomi because she could not come to terms with her having cerebral palsy.
Ad saleswoman Hill, of Connah’s Quay, North Wales, admits killing the youngster but denies murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The court heard a taped extract of one of Hill’s interviews at Runcorn police station with Detective Constable Andrew Roberts.
She had been taken to the station after being arrested on suspicion of murdering her daughter, after she took her lifeless body to hospital in the early hours of November 27 last year.
Hill, 32, described in a steady voice how she had drawn a bath almost to the top around 6.30pm at her home on November 26, put pink bubble bath into the water, felt the temperature and then lifted her daughter into the water.
She said: “Then I pushed her down. I held her down by the head. She’s lying on her front with her face to the side. I am holding her by the neck, around her neck.
“I am holding her against the bottom of the bath. She did not come up.”

When asked to describe the sequence in more detail by DC Roberts, Hill said she had put her hands under Naomi’s arms to lift her into the bath, so that the girl stood facing her.
“I told her to sit down. I was being forceful with her. I said, come on you are having a bath, and told her to sit down.
“I held her by her head and neck area, on the back area of her neck and head - it just happened so quick. I just grabbed her by the back of the neck and kept her under water.
“She was on her front at first, and then turned on to her side to face the wall.”
As the jury listened to the tape recording, Hill sat in the dock facing forward, expressionless.
After the tape was turned off, DC Roberts continued reading the rest of the interview to the court.
Hill had told him: “I pulled her down. She was a bit whingey but not a lot. I got hold of her neck and pushed her in the water.
She turned on to her right side after a while - I think she’d gone, she’d stopped moving.”
She added: “I had to leave the house before my husband returned home from work around 7.30pm. My plan was to get Naomi dressed and then take her out in the car.”
Hill admitted in interview she had thought of holding her daughter under water before she ran the bath.
While driving around Chester and its surroundings before taking the body to the Countess of Chester Hospital, she said: “I was confused, my state of mind was not all there. I had suicidal thoughts.”
Earlier the jury heard Hill said Naomi was under water for around 10 minutes before she took the body out and dressed it in dungarees, a duffel coat and pink trainers.
The body was placed in the car seat of her Renault Megane, as if the girl was sleeping.
Naomi had been keeping her awake at nights, and she (Hill) was having trouble sleeping, she said. On the night before the tragedy Hill had slept in Naomi’s bed.
Asked in a previous interview why she had killed Naomi, Hill said: “I don’t know I had not been well.”
The case continues.

Politicians and the hotel industry accused the management of sexism and “inappropriate” behaviour.

“In this day and age, in 2008, to be promoting the drinking of alcohol along those lines, I just think is part of a bygone era,” said Victoria state’s acting Premier Rob Hulls.

Michael Phelps won his eighth Olympic gold medal of the Beijing Games to beat Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven, with victory in the 4x100m medley.

The 23-year-old teamed up with Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Jason Lezak to claim the historic gold for the United States in a world record time.

They held off Australia and Japan to win in three minutes 29.34 seconds.

Britain finished in sixth, but the race was all about record-breaking Phelps’ place in history.

Phelps, who swam 17 times over nine days and set world records in seven finals, had already won the 400m medley, 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 4×100m free relay, 4×200m free relay, 200m medley and the 100m butterfly.

Victory in the 4×100m relay rounded off a remarkable Olympics the 6ft 4in swimmer, who has dominated the action in the Water Cube.

However, his final triumph was far from straightforward.

Phelps dived into the water for the third leg butterfly with his team in third position but he powered them into the lead.

Australian Eamon Sullivan tried to chase the Americans down but Lezak held on to clinch Phelps’ record win.

It also took Phelps’ Olympic medal haul to 14 golds, and 16 overall.

Phelps admitted to being overwhelmed after achieving his feat, and was quick to pay tribute to his team-mates.

“I don’t even know what to feel right now,” Phelps said.

“There are so many emotions going through my head and so much excitement. I kind of just want to see my mom.

“Without the help of my team-mates this isn’t possible.

“I was able to be a part of three relays and we were able to put up a solid team effort and we came together as one unit.

“For the three Olympics I’ve been a part of, this is by far the closest men’s team that we’ve ever had.

“I didn’t know everybody coming into this Olympics, but I feel going out I know every single person very well. The team that we had is the difference. “Nothing is impossible.

“With so many people saying it couldn’t be done, all it takes is an imagination, and that’s something I learned and something that helped me.

“It’s been nothing but an upwards roller-coaster and it’s been nothing but fun.”

His team-mate Peirsol added: “It’s a beautiful thing, I am so proud to be a part of this relay team.

“It wasn’t like we were doing this for Michael, but it’s an honour to be part of it. It would have been something if we hadn’t done it.”
Australian swimmer Grant Hackett said: “Michael Phelps - you can’t put it in words what he has done here, his level of achievement is phenomenal and I don’t think it will ever be seen again.”

Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva broke her own women's pole vault world record on the way to defending her Olympic title.

The 26-year-old beat the record by a centimetre with a clearance of 5.05 metres, finishing ahead of American Jennifer Stuczynski, who cleared 4.80m.

Russia’s Svetlana Feofanova took bronze with a vault of 4.75m.

Isinbayeva, who has also won two world titles, has now broken the world record on three occasions this year - in Rome, Monaco, and now in Beijing.

“I was trying to do my best for the crowd,” she said afterwards.

“It makes me happy, so happy, I felt that I could not go out without the world record because of the support the crowd gave me.

“I remember my feelings from Athens 2004 and I wanted to feel that again.

“Everyone was so sure that I would win so I felt a lot of pressure.”

Isinbayeva is now aiming to break set Sergei Bubka’s record for consecutive world records.

“I will do it. I just have 12 more to go. Life would be boring without records to break so I want to continue on forever.

“It is hard to be more perfect than this. I will still improve and the next goal is London 2012.”

The Russian needed just two jumps in the final to claim her second Olympics gold, electing to begin her defence at 4.70m.

He clinched the title with her second vault - 4.85m - having watched rivals Feofanova and Stuczynski bow out of the competition at lower heights.

Isinbayeva then raised the bar to 4.95m - a new Olympic record - and cleared it on her third attempt.

With only the women’s pole vault still running at the Bird’s Nest, the Volgograd athlete moved the bar up to the world record height of 5.05m, which she cleared, again, with her third and final attempt.

Isinbayeva first broke the world record in 2003 in Gateshead, when she cleared 4.82m.

Meanwhile, the women’s final was held up for between 10 to15 minutes when Brazilian Fabiana Murer could not find the pole she wanted to jump with.

A Cuban taekwondo athlete and his coach were banned for life after Angel Matos kicked the referee in the face following his bronze-medal match disqualification.

Cuban coach Leudis Gonzalez offered no apology for Matos’ actions during the men’s over-80 kg (176 pounds) match.

Matos was winning 3-2, with 1:02 in the second round, when he fell to the mat after being hit by his opponent, Kazakhstan’s Arman Chilmanov. He was sitting there, awaiting medical attention, when he was disqualified for taking too much injury time. Fighters get one minute, and Matos was disqualified when his time ran out.

Matos angrily questioned the call, pushed a judge, then pushed and kicked referee Chakir Chelbat of Sweden. Matos then spat on the floor and was escorted out.

McCartney has been arrested four times for marijuana possession, most famously in Japan in 1980 when he was nabbed with nearly a half pound of weed at Tokyo Airport and spent 10 days in jail. Hiis second wife Linda Eastman, who died of breast cancer in 1998, was arrested three times for pot.

McCartney has called for decriminalization of marijuana on many occasions. “People are smoking pot anyway,” he says. “To make them criminals is wrong.”

He recently divorced his second wife, Heather Mills, who disapproved of his marijuana use. She will receive a $48 million settlement.

McCartney turns 66 on June 18.

Fatal September 1996 shooting On September 7, 1996, Shakur attended the Mike Tyson - Bruce Seldon boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After the boxing match, Shakur spotted 21 year-old Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, a member of the Southside Crips in the MGM Grand lobby. Shakur rushed him and knocked Anderson down, and Shakur’s entourage beat him. The incident was captured on the hotel’s video surveillance. Anderson and a group of Crips had beaten up a member of Death Row’s entourage in a Foot Locker a few weeks earlier, precipitating Shakur’s attack. After the fight with Anderson, Shakur met up with Suge Knight to go to Death Row-owned Club 662 (now known as restaurant/club Seven). Shakur rode with Knight in Knight’s 1996 black BMW 750i sedan, as part of a larger convoy of cars including some of Shakur’s friends, The Outlawz, and bodyguards. At approximately 11:14 PM, while stopped at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and Koval Lane, Shakur was shot in a drive-by shooting. Shakur was hit four times, twice in the chest, and once each in his arm and thigh, while Knight was scratched in the head by a piece of flying glass. At the time of the shooting, Shakur was riding alongside with Suge Knight, with his bodyguard following behind in a vehicle belonging to Kidada Jones, Shakur’s then-fiancée.

The bodyguard, Frank Alexander, stated that while he was about to ride along with the rapper in Suge Knight’s car, Shakur asked him to drive Kidada Jones’ car in case they were too drunk and needed additional vehicles from Club 662 back to the hotel. Shortly after the shootings, the bodyguard reported in his documentary, Before I Wake, that one of the convoy’s cars drove off after the assailant but he never heard back from the occupants.
After arriving on the scene, police and paramedics took Shakur and Knight to the University Medical Center. Shakur was placed on life support until his death six days later, on September 13, 1996, at 4:03 PM PDT. He was 25 years old. The official cause of death was respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. After his death, Shakur’s body was cremated. Family and friends reportedly spread half of his ashes over the Pacific Ocean near Los Angeles, California, and another half in a forest in North Carolina.

Theories of the crime

Although no one has ever been formally charged, nor publicly identified by the police as a suspect, police sources have indicated they believe that Anderson (who has since been murdered himself) was the killer. Officers in the Compton, California Police Department Gang Unit claimed in a leaked report the Crips were bragging about the killing soon after Anderson returned from Las Vegas. Officers further indicated they were disappointed with the lack of initiative shown by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in pursuing Shakur’s killer(s).

Due largely to the perceived lack of progress on the case by law enforcement, many independent investigations and theories of the crime have emerged. Because of the acrimony between Christopher Wallace (aka The Notorious B.I.G.) and Shakur, there was speculation about the possibility of Wallace’s involvement in the murder from the outset. Wallace vehemently denied involvement. However, in a notable (but highly disputed) 2002 investigation by the Los Angeles Times, writer Chuck Phillips claimed to have uncovered evidence implicating Wallace in the murder. In the article, Phillips quoted unnamed gang-member sources who claimed Wallace had ties to the Crips, often hiring them for security during West Coast appearances. Phillips’ informants also state that Wallace gave the gang members one of his own guns for use in the attack on Shakur, and that he put out a $1 million contract on Tupac’s life. By the time Phillips’ specific allegations were published, however, Wallace himself had been murdered.

Wallace’s family and associates have vehemently denied Wallace’s involvement in Shakur’s death. In support of their claims, Wallace’s family submitted documentation to MTV indicating that Wallace was working in a New York recording studio the night of Shakur’s murder. Wallace’s manager Wayne Barrow and rapper James “Lil’ Cease” Lloyd made public announcements denying Wallace’s involvement in the murder and claiming further that they were both with Wallace in the recording studio the night of the shooting.

The high profile nature of the killing and ensuing gang violence caught the attention of British filmmaker Nick Broomfield who made the documentary Biggie & Tupac, which examines the lack of progress in the case by speaking to those close to Wallace, Shakur, and the investigation. Shakur’s close childhood friend and member of the Outlawz, Yafeu “Yaki Kadafi” Fula, was in the convoy when the shooting happened and indicated to police that he might be able to identify the assailants. He was killed shortly thereafter in a housing project in Irvington, New Jersey.

It was believed by many listeners that in the first few seconds of the album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, one could hear a voice saying “Suge shot me”, or “Suge shot ‘em”. This voice was of Kadafi. This, along with reports of Knight’s strong-arm tactics with artists and other illegal/unethical business tactics including involvement with the Mob Piru Bloods street gang gave rise to a theory that Knight was complicit in Shakur’s murder, as it was reported that Suge Knight owed Tupac up to seventeen million dollars in back royalties, but no evidence has been provided to support this theory.

Other theories have been put forth, including a theory that Shakur is alive and well, but in hiding. Many supporters of these theories point to the symbolism in Shakur’s The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory album and in the video for the single “I Ain’t Mad at Cha”.

Dr Francisco ruled Elvis died as a result of coronary arrhythmia (an irregular beating of the heart resulting from myocardial infarction) Elvis real “cause of death” revealed more than originally reported to the media is a bid to retain Elvis Presley reputation as the King of Rock n Roll.

Alicia Keys was born in the Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem, in New York City, New York, the daughter and only child of Teresa “Terria” Augello, a paralegal and part-time actress, and Craig Cook, a flight attendant.[6] Keys’ mother is of Irish, Italian and puerto rican descent, and her father is Jamaican. Keys describes herself as comfortable with her biracial heritage : “I grew up in New York, and thank God, I never had to go through that in regards to, ‘You’re not black enough, you’re not white enough,’ the whole kind of white/black-mixture thing. I never had to go through that. I went through prejudices and all, surely. But I never had to battle with those two parts of me.”[7] Keys’ parents separated during her early childhood, and she was subsequently raised by her mother during her formative years in Hell’s Kitchen, also in Manhattan.[8] In 1985, Keys and a group of other girls played the parts of Rudy Huxtable’s sleepover guests in an episode of The Cosby Show called “Slumber Party”.[9]a[›] She began playing the piano when she was seven, learning classical music by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and her favorite, Chopin.[10] Keys almost chose Wilde as her stage name at age sixteen until her manager suggested the name Keys after a dream he had. Keys felt that name represented her both as a performer and person.[11] Keys graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School, a prestigious high school in Manhattan, as valedictorian at the age of sixteen in only three years. Although accepted to Columbia University,[12] she decided to drop out and pursue her musical career. Keys signed a demo deal with Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def label, then distributed by Columbia Records. She co-wrote and recorded a song entitled “Dah Dee Dah (Sexy Thing)”, which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1997 blockbuster, Men in Black. The song was Keys’ first professional recording; however, it was never released as a single and her record contract with Columbia Records ended quickly. Keys later met Clive Davis, who signed her to Arista Records, which has since disbanded. Following Davis to his newly-formed J Records label, she recorded the songs “Rock wit U” and “Rear View Mirror”, featured on the soundtracks to the films Shaft (2000) and Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001) respectively. Keys then released her debut album, Songs in A Minor.
