BMW says the X1 has 14.7 cubic-feet of usable cargo area with the adjustable rear seatbacks upright -- for comparison's sake, that's the exact same amount as the four-door Volkswagen GTI . Rear seats folded flat, that figure increases to a more useable 47.3 cubic-feet.

Generating a healthy 180kW and a sizable 540Nm of torque, the diesel-drinking engine isn t just a grunty, economical piece of equipment - it s genuinely powerful too. The 330d arrives here next month, but BMW Australia s diesel plans don t stop there.В A super-frugal 118d (above) is currently under consideration, as are diesel variants of the 3 Series coupe and convertible.

(Thu 02 Jul 09) BMW has confirmed the UK pricing and specifications of the X1, its smallest SUV yet, which will go on sale here on October 24. On that date the range will consist of just three versions. The cheapest, at 24,205, is the sDrive20d SE, which has a 177bhp two-litre turbo diesel engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive and an Auto Start-Stop system which cuts out the engine when it isn't needed. Its top speed is limited to 127mph, the 0-62mph time is 8.1 seconds, combined fuel economy is 53.3mpg and CO2 emissions are 139g/km.

BMW believes a 10 per cent reduction in drag reduces fuel consumption by 2.5 per cent, and the 2011 M5 could get flaps that open and close on its body to alter air flow. The wheelbase is expected to be 10mm longer but despite the larger dimensions BMW wants the same weight as the current M5вЂ™s 1830 kg. BMW denies giving the car a four-door coupe shape but it has smooth, flowing roofline that extends far back along the car.

We believe our TV and Online commercial fully comply with the FCAI Voluntary Code of Practice for Motor Vehicle Advertising and can be clearly distinguished by the viewer as an artistic performance and not reality, said BMW s official response to the complaints. The performance takes place in a controlled environment (a studio warehouse) which is clearly shown at the beginning of the TVC. The car drives across the canvas creating patterns with paint вЂ" it does not suggest a real-life driving situation.

The ad features the BMW Z4 coupe creating a giant artwork in a warehouse by driving with painted tyres, and includes the vehicle spinning its wheels and skidding. The clip, which has been used around the world, was made by artist Robin Rhode and famed film director Ridley Scott's son, Jake. The ad sparked a backlash; one viewer told the Advertising Standards Bureau and Channel 9 the clip would encourage car hoons to spin and burn their tyres . The watchdog banned the ad on the basis it depicted illegal driving.

There are talks that the Bmw M5 will be coming with a new twin-turbocharged V10 power unit in step with the Audi RS6. The new powerplant is said to be an improvement from the companyвЂ™s 564bhp 4.4L twin-turbo which will drive the forthcoming X5 M and X6 M vehicles. It is capable of more than 600bhp and is possibly going to be couple with an F1-inspired KERS system, thus enabling the user to bump performance with just a press of a button.

AM Retief Goosen of South Africa retained his lead at the halfway stage of the BMW International Open in Munich after shooting a four-under-par 68 on Friday in the second round at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried. However, Goosen's 132-stroke total, which was completed before lunch, came under increasing pressure later in the day. Eventually, he held a one-shot lead over Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen. "I am very happy with the way I played," Goosen said.

Just 3.75 litres of diesel is required by theВ 316d to travel 100km, and carbon emissions are claimed to be a low 118 grams per kilometre. A six-speed manual gearbox will be the standard transmission, and BMW will employ its EfficientDynamics fuel-saving tech in the thrifty 316d. An Australian release has yet to be announced, but the 316d ES will be available in the UK at a price of ВЈ23,330 (AU$47,900) from September onwards.
